Too much cheese can put weight on a person, make that person feel sluggish and draw rats to themselves! Was hearing a new teaching over the weekend and there was a word that captured my attention in the pastor’s speaking: He said “too much cheese”. As he continued, he spoke of “too many rats”!
In the definition of cheese: a food consisting of the coagulated, compressed, and usually ripened curd of milk separated from the whey; b: an often cylindrical cake of this food ;is something resembling cheese in shape or consistency
And another meaning is something cheap or shabby : cheesy
material cinematic
As a
transitive verb: to put an end to STOP……….cheese it!
As slang: someone important
Synonyms
for cheese : crapola, junk, muck, rubbish,
sleaze, slop, slush, trash, tripe
Yes, cheese
can take a whole different meaning and look when you consider the words like
sleaze, or trash, or how about crapola? And then you have that “rat thing” to contend with!
I always knew “rats” as rodents. I always knew at
least since school days that they can transmit disease. And as I got older, I
found people who would curse using the word “oh rats”! Now, I am not certain
why anyone would call on rats to come to them, but they did. I really liked
this lady and I am not certain that she still lives, but if she lives, she is a
great teacher of the word of God. She could tell you all the names of God and what each spoke of His characteristics! She knew historical events of Israel, of the scrolls found in the desert and how the Hebrew nation grew to become what it is today. She always glowed with the love she had for God and His people! And yet this lady would screech loudly in dismay at times: "oh rats!"
As I was reading some on the definition of rat in a
dictionary today, I was amazed that even my dear grandmother who passed many decades ago
would curse using this derivative from yes, the word “rat”. Her word was “oh shoot” or “oh shoots”! So as I continued to read on this three lettered word, I
think back to my grandmother who would
not be happy to find out that she was cursing!
As I looked again at the meanings given of rat, one called
informal ….listed rat as one who will
desert one’s party, and gave the sentence of: “ those siding with him giving
him support and others rattied on him and joined a King’s forces.
That word “ rat” given as a “person” is a contemptible person: such as one
who betrays or deserts friends or associates. That rat can also be known as a “scab”.
Now that name “scab” I know when coal miner’s went on strike back in the 1980’s
in the Montana area. And when some of the men who were not happy about some
crossing that picket line, the men and women who really needed the work to feed
their families, many of those crossing got called that name of “scab” a lot! And
that those same who would choose certain names to shame and bring hostile
action to another could be seen using metal things thrown in the roadway to
cause flat tires, to cause blow out of tires and damaging such possessions
required to get to work.
Another definition
I noticed too, was the one of a “mall rat”…one who spends too much time at
some place choosing not to leave for home.
That loving is where peace of God rules and is that place of safety for all in that space. If we are choosing to walk with a sign in hand or picket in a “space” are we doing that act as the rat or one who loves God and loves people to see people live and not die? Is that picketing with others for the right thing in God or is it putting people in harm’s way to destroy others on the way to finding answers that is given only by the flesh creature? Is that only creating more chaos and disorder and not laying hands on a true solution to end the problem or situation at hand? Is that picketing truly for change that is good in God or just for a 15 minute platform of fame where people die?
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God
to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself
against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the
obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your
obedience is fulfilled.
Imagination (KJV)( from verse 5) is that which is conscience
and is of conceit! Conscience is that
motivation deriving from logic the ethical or the
moral
principles that govern a person's thoughts and actions. It is viewed as
having a moral sense, or scruples. (that sense of right or wrong) Conscience is the conformity one has to their
own sense of right conduct.
For the Children…to….Adults…..finding out what is
true……..and strongholds must come down…alignment with God and His Word of
truth… ( Imaginations that is of conceit:
Their speaking is a boast in themselves, children….impress their parents and can get
loud about it..) Children want their space and to have a voice. But they
must not lead your family!
Adults : those who speak of themselves in great length and
about the ability of being great in themselves..( their egos is that which gives way to a self-flattering oratory, and
they also carry an overly positive self-regard) Are mentally active for
themselves….planning more for their life, their comfort, their fun times…they
do not regard their neighbor… From this passage, our warfare is not
“against flesh and blood” but in God we are God empowered against that flesh. In God
we fight against that which is “selfish”!
Philippians 3:13……13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have
apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those thing which are behind and
reaching forward to those things which are ahead.
Captivity is bringing every thought that is contrary to virtue, purity and righteousness…….(By living righteously and seeking God, He gives us more of His Spirit to help us grow in grace and overcome sin through the knowledge of God)
2 Peter
3:17-18…NKJV….17 You therefore, beloved, since you
know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness,
being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now
and forever. Amen.
We, who have received Jesus as Lord, are called righteous, not
because we have the ability to accomplish good works, but because we reside in
the righteousness of Christ. We abide in His obedience and learn from Him!
This contact is so vital for it proves beneficial both for
God and for us! Our loving service of Him is also the same as loving ourselves.
What we see in these two intimate relationships is a practical application and
benefit of the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do to
you".
When you have one thing go wrong, how long before the whole
of your surroundings, your environment …your whole world of existence comes
falling down on your head? And how long is it to when you take to voicing what
is wrong with everyone else because of what is being done to you or what is
touching you?
Yes, that rat and those who gather to eat that cheese will gather to chant the same thing. Somebody did them wrong and they want someone to pay! I keep thinking of all the young babies being born today into a country who will not see any debt of this nation paid off. I think of those who choose to spend, and treat others with shabby behavior and expect to be praised and have money entitlements to boot!
See, there is a great problem with self-love. For without
contact with God throughout life, an individual's innate self-centeredness can
easily develop into an extreme and sharply honed sinfulness and evil. An egotist
gives little thought to loving others as a way of life; he shows little care
for others and rarely looks for ways to serve them! Without God, life becomes all
about the self and everything in its safe walls of self till someone is trying to take it, their self made world away. The world, established by and built upon selfish human nature, continues to
feed its self-absorbed inclinations and cravings. It is readily available just at the touch of a finger to a certain key on the cell phone or remote control for car or television. We know this because of the
amount of movies and commercials that cater to those fleshly desires is still
being made and deployed for greed in great numbers. That is harmful to the man who really needs
to live in God and to see his life is done in the power of God.
Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. – 1 Peter 5:2-4 NIV
We “feed” others by the love that we have for Jesus. You and I can not feed others say by the love of some man who lived hundreds of years ago, who journaled only of his life with God, not about that true, the life and light of God and then expects others to obey it! For only life is in Christ!
I was hearing an account of Billy Graham and the love he still had for giving others the love of Jesus. I heard those who followed, and one who gave a testimony to follow Jesus as Billy Graham had followed Jesus. Dr. Don Wilton gave such a glowing word about the man Billy Graham and he spoke of those Saturdays he would drive to see the elder Graham in his home. Of their conversation such a sweetness as of the Holy Spirit was present in their midst. Dr. Wilton continued to speak and tears welled up in his eyes and they welled up in my eyes as well. Will we still be speaking of the goodness of God, His love for man and the greatness to send His only Son to die for us when we turn eighty or a hundred years old?
Loving others is giving them the truth of what God has given us through His Son Jesus Christ and not any man! And many will not come to the light for in that the darkness in heart will appear. Sin is embedded in many media props, movies and even in many commercials. The things advertised today would not have been advertised sixty years. But today it is about making money and the most lazy way to do it indeed! But life in God was a high priced paid for that true life: John 3:17-21 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He who believes in Him is not condemned, but he who does not believes is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he Who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen that they have been done in God.
Everything that was done in
Jesus was all done in God! 3 John 11 Beloved, do not imitate what is
evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has
not seen God.
Psalm 96: 3 Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples…..The glory of God is substantial or heavy. It is honor, splendor, power, wealth, authority, dignity, riches, to excel…in God.
Vanity of man is futile. That to live as a rat only proves no love for a wonderful loving God our Father. We
have a right in Him, to obey Him for His love to us. His generous Spirit has
brought us close to His heart, to hear Him speak and abide in that presence that
is warm, welcoming, and beneficial to us. May we go in that way which is of
life and light where God rules our heart and songs are heard out of that heart as worship
to Him and not as slurs to destroy another human being.
