Identifying with Heartache

Psalm 23 :1-6 NKJV  The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD  forever.

VERSE 4…though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Comfort: nacham….Strongs #5162 …to comfort, to console; extend compassion, sigh with one grieving ; to repent…translated has meaning of regrets of a transgression……..so this word does not describe a casual sympathy, but describes empathy. It is actually one who will weep with another who weeps!

Love is when one comes to: help, to motivate, those in love will actively watch with sorrow and pity

Empathy is getting down in the ugliness of deep darkness, no light,  “hey this trench is deep” of despair, no help, but panic!  Empathy is the action of understanding, being very much aware of and sensitive to experiencing the feelings of others in thoughts and in experiences……….whether to the past or to a present moment. The one with empathy knows the experience as their own experience. He was willing to avenge their distress of ailments, sickness because of His love…that is anchored in the depths of empathy, proactive on the scene to suffer as those He came to suffer for on the Cross…

Jesus was active in empathy for others. The man healed on the Sabbath..:Mark 2:27-28 ;3 1-5…NKJV…27 and He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath” 28 “Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

Mark 3:1-4 NKJV and He entered the synagogue again, & a man was there who had a withered hand. 2 So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. 3 And he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Step forward”. 4 The he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

5 And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, & his hand was restored as whole as the other.

Another passage using the word Nacham: Psalm 119:75-82  Amplified Bible 75 I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right & righteous, & in faithfulness You have afflicted me. 76 Let, I pray You, Your merciful kindness & steadfast love be for my comfort, according to your promise to Your servant.

Comfort: He prays…: You in Your merciful kindness and steadfast love be for my comfort…

Psalm 119:77 Let Your tender mercy and loving kindness come to me that I may live, for Your law is my delight. 78 Let the proud be put to shame, for they dealt perversely with me without a cause; but I will mediate on Your precepts. 79 Let those who reverently and worshipfully fear You turn to me, and those who have known Your testimonies. 80 Let my heart be sound (sincere and wholehearted & blameless) in Your statues, that I may not be put to shame. 81 My soul languishes and grows faint for Your salvation, but I hope in Your word. 82 My eyes fail, watching for [the fulfillment of] Your promised. I say, when will You comfort me? Comfort:nacham

From Psalm 119 and verses 77-82 every display of the tender mercies of God is like a fresh transfusion of life to the hard-pressed saint. From verse 79 it is a spiritual instinct to seek the fellowship of those who know and love the Word of God. But truly how often do we ask the Lord to lead those who fear God across our pathway? The believer may be afflicted but not crushed; perplexed but not driven to despair; persecuted but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed ( 2 Corinthians 4:8-9) Even though eyes grow dime with searching for the fulfillment of God’s promise of deliverance, he does not pray “Will you comfort me? But he prays “When will you comfort me?”

Empathy and No Trenches : Identifying with Heartache………Jesus was on the front lines to confront the enemy: Us!   Philippians 2:5-8 – Jesus Christ, who being in the very nature of God did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.  Rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant (left his home), being made in human likeness.  And being found as a man, humbled himself even further by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Identifying with others in a heartache is identifying with those in need. Jesus drew no tears from His own griefs but He sweat drops of the blood for mine. (author: Charles H. Gabriel) Jesus held a sacrificial mind, the selfless mind, and the serving mind. Jesus consistently thought of others. Yeah, He got it from His Father!

Jesus is empathy’s perfect example. He did not come to earth to save us as God, detached and gazing down in sympathy and pity. He came as man, born into the trenches, to live and suffer as a human. His empathy makes Him the perfect sacrifice. The perfect bridge between God and us.  Hebrews 4:15  “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin”

But we are not Jesus. So how can we identify with others going through situations that we have never encountered face-to-face? How can we walk trenches we have never been pushed into? Because based on the way Jesus lived his life, that’s what I believe He’s asking us to do as Christians. To put away sympathy and embrace empathy. That’s where true comfort lies.

Jesus didn’t have a trench: Breaking Barriers

1.   Initiated grace to the least of them: the broken, the lame but also the one who hung on the Cross next to him

2.   Served those who dishonored him the most: Judas

3.   His beliefs were not fables or fickle

4.   His opinion was not swayed: He was on His mission for Salvation who kept the future focus, faith and determination: It is Finished He spoke from that bloody Cross!

5.    HE acted on  complete conviction!

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Amplified Bible 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God [Who is the Source of every comfort [(consolation and encouragement). 4 Who comforts (consoles and encourages us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort (consolation and encouragement) with which we ourselves are comforted (consoled and encouraged) by God. 5 For just as Christ’s [own] sufferings fall to our lot [as they overflow upon His disciples, and we share and experience them] abundantly, so through Christ’s comfort (consolation and encouragement) is also [shared and experienced] abundantly by us.

Now this passage is a favorite of mine. I have spent some time on it in the past ten years meditating it. Paul bursts into thanksgiving to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul addresses the full title of God. As we saw in the Old Testament: the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, or the God of Jacob. Paul is brought news from Titus in Macedonia. In all Paul had in afflictions, he was conscious of God’s comforting presence. As Paul was comforted, he comforted those around him. It is a comfort that comes as the form of encouragement and exhortation. We are not comforted to be made comfortable, but to be comforted to fly to the aid of him on “death’s bed” or one who is home under Dr.’s care!

Our association with Jesus Christ brings from others: suffer that is brought on by reproach, by rejection, hostility, hatred, denial, betrayal, and much more. But we to them in His name. We appear as His hands, His feet and speak His words!

The New Testament presents Jesus as the supreme example of empathy: as one who fully understands both the experience of God and the experience of humanity.  And Paul challenges followers of Jesus to empathize fully with Jesus’ faith and Jesus’ death, and to hope for his resurrection as seen in 1 Corinthians 1:3-5! Jesus was active and moving: He was about removing those trenches of religious beliefs.

This came through Jesus…to comfort us.

While we still walk on earth, might we initiate grace to the least of them like Jesus did? Might we serve those who dishonored Him the most?  His beliefs were not fables, nor a fairy tale but truth held in His heart. He was sent by the Father, manifested to be heard and to be seen with eyes. He was manifested and bear witness of eternal life which was with the Father and manifested to the apostles indeed.

He was on His mission for Salvation who kept the future focus, faith and determination in His speaking. He always acted on a complete conviction. He came, would face persecution and die for many. He came to comfort those in need of a Comforter!  The Message heard, from Him and was declared to us that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. We walk in light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Comforter, Helper, or Companion, Holy Spirit You are a wonderful gift to us. You mentor us and teach us. You are our treasured Friend. Thank You for taking time to talk with us today, to converse the thoughts of the Father and to reveal instructions to us. Forgive us when we have shown a short fuse for anything of the world. Forgive us for failing to heed Your instruction just when we require it the most.

Please un-clutter us of distractions so that we may hear Your voice and obey You without question.  In Jesus’ holy name. amen and amen!

Words Choose the Atmosphere

Within the vein of the last teaching on Voice of Prayer, we saw the use of straw in making bricks. According to Pharaoh, he did not mind stopping all work and life for his plan of worshiping his idols in regard to the specific time of year. But when Moses and Aaron came to speak of the whole Hebrew nation go out to the desert to worship God, Pharaoh threw a hissy fit. The uproar was about Pharaoh's plan and not to their (Hebrews) asking for their desire to meet God. ( the first encounter was Exodus 5)

Of course, in the atmosphere of those words spoken, straw was removed from them and they had to find other means of brick making! Those words choose the atmosphere. They can be words to delight, to bring questions, to see something never seen before, and they can be words to destruct and bring harm! ( Exodus 5-6) And remember the plagues began to fall on Pharaoh and all that lived in that region when he refused God. He would not allow them to go meet God in the wilderness and to worship Him there. Even here we note when straw is removed as in : officers de-funded and less officers on the job more violence occurs, nurses removed who will not vaccinate to be replaced with those not qualified to be a registered nurse, schools where substitute teaches no longer need a degree to teach your children (Oregon) just as long as you graduated High School you can apply to teach! Truckers removed from delivering goods to grocery markets and stores. (seen in the teaching: No Negative Thoughts or Feelings)

And ultimately, Pharaoh continued to speak in words of hate and violence, so much so that he followed the Hebrews with his best chariots and men. ( Exodus 12:31-51) He was determined to bring them back. But the sacrifice of praise to God in the wilderness led the Hebrews to the safe area to cross the Red Sea, to cross over for God's glory and to His praise. And they went through but the Egyptians died in their pursuit to attack the Hebrews to bring them back and to make them pay for their attitude! (Exodus 14:1-31)

Here we speak God! Here we lay down our morning, noon and night! Here we speak:

"LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, & Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. 37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." ( and we know God hears His born again believers)

Today, we speak these names of Jehovah God, over the people of  these United States. ( You can speak over your nation here)  You are God Alone. You have prepared us for the day of Battle. And we speak as YOU have spoken….  Elohim, the Creator of the heaven and earth, Who was in the Beginning…….You are in the Beginning of their new life and of this new day! May the men and women of this country meet and know.............

Adonai, our Lord and our Master---the Completely Self-existing One, always present, revealed in Jesus Who is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Jehovah Jireh, the One Who sees our needs and provides for them……….May they know….

Jehovah-Rapha,  Our  HEALER  and the One Who makes bitter experiences sweet. YOU  sent YOUR word and healed us .  YOU  forgave all our iniquities and YOU healed all my diseases

Jehovah-Nissi ….Our Victory, our Banner and our STANDARD. …and it is Your  BANNER over us that …… is LOVE. When the enemy comes in like a flood….Jehovah-Nissi lifts up a STANDARD against him.

Jehovah-Shalom, WE bless Your Name. YOU are the PEACE….THE PEACE which transcends all understanding, which garrisons and mounts guard over every man, woman and child in the communities and the nation(s) we have asked for.  May their atmosphere be changed here and now in an instant….

Jehovah-Tsidkenu, Our Righteousness.YOU became sin FOR US THAT WE would become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. AND in that….we have

Jehovah-Rohi, Our SHEPHERD….We shall not be in want for any good or beneficial thing. We give thanks for …..

Jehovah Shammah, Who will never leave us nor forsake us… “The Lord is my HELPER, WE will not be seized with alarm-----WE will not fear or dread or be terrified. What can man do to me (us)?

God our Father: It is Your NAME that is to be exalted. It is YOU Who has given us all we need.  It is the sacrifice of Jesus  lifted up and it is our voices that must be resounding all to YOU for You are our Father Who has given all good things through YOUR Son Jesus. The sound of justice is present in You. The rain falls on the just and unjust just as the sun shines on the just and the unjust!

Today, we call the OPEN Door from John 10:9-10  NKJV…9 I (Jesus) am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I (Jesus)  have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.  We have spirit and truth in the Lord. We have His light and we have no more condemnation in the truth of God’s word.

It is so sad that many people today delight in removing God so they can do more sinning, do more in man’s ideas of which he views as right in his own eyes. ( Judges 21:25, Proverbs 12:15, Proverbs 21:2) But destruction is not far behind that thinking and doing. We must call God Who He is in our lives and what we expect. Like in the reading of Elijah and the false prophets of Jezebel found in 1 Kings 18, they expected nothing. They had seen nothing except by their own hands. But here Elijah called down fire to a corrupt group of nonbelievers. Elijah had a belief in God that He could do what was asked of Him!

We are to expect when we speak with the voice of right words that fills the atmosphere for God’s good in our lives. We fill the atmosphere with good:

Philippians 4:6-9 NKJV  6  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.   8  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

We need to pay careful attention to this sequence of instructions because it contains much that can help us attain both good spiritual and physical health.

It has been in the last 60 years, men have come to understand how deteriorating and destructive stress is to life. Paul's counsel, written nearly two thousand years ago, tells us not to be driven by anxiety or fearfulness about life.   In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus admonishes us to "take no anxious thought." The stress of anxiety is wearying, setting us up for multiple afflictions. If we really "see" God, we should know that He is with us.

Even then Jesus gave us this assurance to take no anxious thought, should we not feel great assurance in His promise that never allows us to be tempted above what we can bear? Faith is a prime solution for anxiety. So is Faith operating in us?

Paul continues, urging us to let God know our needs in every matter of life. God likes to converse with us. He sent His Holy Spirit to be in the daily walk with us here and now. As Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, He already knows our needs, but He wants us to recognize, evaluate, and communicate them to Him, accompanied by thoughtful expressions of thanksgiving for what He has already given, as well as His promises of blessings in the future. Do we see what this process achieves? It disciplines us to think within certain well-defined parameters that have Him and His way at the center of our life.

A benefit of this is tranquility Paul reveals is that of the mind, respite from the restlessness so common to the carnal mind, which is constantly searching for new stimulation to satisfy its insatiable longings that this peace of God will stand guard over our minds like a sentinel, allowing us to meet and cope with the problems of life.

And "finally" from verse 8 Paul closes the thought. In that relation to anxiety, the peace of God and coping with problems, our minds are to stay focused and thoughtful on or occupied with  things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Through this discipline, we program our minds with the right things; what goes into the mind determines what comes out in words, actions, and attitudes.

So if one puts in his day by way of his mouth garbage. then it will be garbage in and garbage out, but wholesome in and wholesome out is what Jesus expanded on in Matthew 12:34.

"For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks". We could take this further and say that out of the abundance of the heart the mind thinks and feels, and the body acts upon that which is the spoken!

What words will you choose today? What will you speak over yourself, your family, your son or daughter, over your community and nation? We speak words that will fill the atmosphere with good! Will your words invite death or bring life? In the garden of Eden, Eve listened to a voice not with life giving advice. She adhered to that voice and she acted on it. She invites her husband Adam to participate with her in this action. He knowing, she is now in the spiral downward death scenario, experiencing spiritual death and he hating to lose her altogether, he joins her in that atmosphere of death. He leaves God to adhere to death and its death throws.

We have a "woke" society doing that very thing today! They choose to leave the right way, the things of God and join the world in their doing. There are people who choose to keep their friends, a boyfriend, or a neighbor but their way is changed from the godly to the worldly way. They have taken vaccines and died. They did not want to make waves and they changed in their thinking. They took on the fearful heart and choose to live at peace with the enemy as peacekeepers, but God has called us to be peacemakers. We have seen it in family members who live miles away from us. You cannot join the world and expect to live in Christ!

Oh choose your words wisely this day, your day counts on where you will be and what you will experience: life or death!

That Anxiety Thing!

Yes, what is causing you that anxiety? What is pressuring you? It seems to appear from everywhere, with people selling an agenda to selling their drugs saying it cures when it does not cure anything, but makes your body want more!

But seriously a believer in Jesus Christ, should not have the symptoms of anxiety: Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpassed all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Luke 12:13-15 NKJV  13 Then one from the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." 14 But He said to him, "man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" 15 And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consists in the abundance of the things he possesses."

Paul wrote this in Colossians  3:5-6 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because  of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience in you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

Things of the earth, that of man, we are to put away from us: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and covetousness which is idolatry.

Adultery in our thinking is choosing the past over the present. An anxious heart can be found when one is listening to the lies of the enemy instead of resisting the lies by the Holy Spirit. We push back by inviting the power of the Holy Spirit to cleanse our mind with Christ’s thoughts. Another example of the anxious heart is choosing to cheat others by not paying our taxes or paying what is Caesars!  Haste is moving too quickly on something you know nothing about or how to get the thing without the least amount of time and sweat. We should not be choosing to living in confusion when we can live in clarity. We are not be tormented with the impure, the evil and negative sinful thoughts of the past. We are given authority to rule now over our hearts when allowing Jesus’ name and words saturate us. We prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)    WE are Enabled “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10) ….(Philippians 4:6-7) and finally, whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of a good report, having virtue or anything praise worthy, we think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)

Covetousness which is idolatry. So what that idolatry looks like today is vivid as an activity of the human heart. It begins in the heart. Is craving, enjoying, being satisfied by anything a person treasures more than God. That is an idol. It is a disordered love or that desire, a condition from a disordered heart. And it is everywhere we look in our culture. It makes no matter what country of which you live, people are the same all over the world. Culture pushes and shoves an agenda. Culture makes demands with voices of hearts choosing that which is wrong in the sight of God.

Does culture made demands on you? Do you have others making a demand on you for the wrong thing?

Haste causes anxiety or that anxious heart! Psalm 84:11 for the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 34:10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

You and I lack no good thing. Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.  We do not lack a good home to live in. We do not lack food to eat or clothing for our bodies. We participate with God in doing His commands.

Haste can appear when one has an eye of envy. When one has haste, one uses money for possessions. They appear to extend themselves beyond their paycheck and have an overuse of credit cards. There are many who desire an economic justice. They really have that heart desire to a redistribution of wealth, so that everybody has their "own" stuff. But that does not solve social problems. This is a heart dealing with avarice. It is a driving force, and comes from what man of the this world views as what is of “worth” to him or to others.  People need to get moving out of their reclining position in their living room or grandma's basement and get their backside moving toward a workplace earning a paycheck to pay his own bills. Man is responsible for himself till he takes a wife and has children. Then he has many to see over and it is done with God.

Doubt is another form of anxiety. Luke 12:28 If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? 29 And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink nor have an anxious mind. 30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. 32 Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

1 Timothy 2:5-8 NKJV 5 For there is one God and one Meditator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, 7 for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle---I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying-----a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

That doubting, an inward thought that reasons things out is only our opinion. We are to have God's thoughts about us. We are to be settling on what God has spoken over us His children. Jesus is our Meditator. We are to be set in Him, and not what our opinion might be for the moment! Doubting will always come back to whether we think real thoughts that are of God and are clear or thoughts of our own heart that is confusion!

Fear is another thing evidence when one is in an anxious state! Fear can paralyze a person. It can cause a person into doing nothing but rolling themselves into a fetal position.  This is mentioned by men who have gone into prison. They broke the law, went through a court system and went to prison and on thus arriving there,  they melt into a fetal position.

A man or woman can fear when God does not act or answer immediately on their behalf. The person can move over into a complete motionless and quiet attitude. Although the war is still raging in their heart, explosions of thought are filling the cavity of their heart and mind, but they are only adding on more deadly fear. We are to keep in step with God, correct our wrong thinking, line up with God, repent and turn from stupid ways. God is patience. He is aware of our need or anxious thing. But our relationship must be set in Him and it is to be a faith walk. Because if we do not maintain it, then we are inviting a greater fear with apathy and procrastination. We must continue in the true knowledge of Him allowing Him to increase in our thoughts and actions. In making any purchase, from a home, an SUV or insurance, we should be talking with God about it.

Without the proper fear of God in us, there will be precious little reciprocation of His love shed abroad in our hearts (Romans 5:5). And He is the God-kind of love that should be spilling out of our hearts for others, but is it? Of late, I wonder myself sometimes.

Philippians 4 8 reminds us to meditate on some things! Finally, my brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy----mediate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

A good report only comes from God! No strings attached, but instruction or correction will be found in that given. The Lord desires our faith to grow.

Message Bible 119: 73-80 With your very own hands You formed me; now breathe your wisdom over me so I can understand you. When they see me waiting, expecting Your word, those who fear you will take heart and be glad. I can see now, GOD that Your decisions are right; Your testing has taught me what’s true and right. O, love me and right now! ----hold me tight!

Just the way You promised. Now comfort me so I can live, really live; Your revelation is the tune I dance to, Let the fast-talking tricksters be exposed as frauds; they tried to sell me a bill of goods, but I kept my mind fixed on Your counsel. Let those who fear You turn to me for evidence of Your wise guidance. And let me live whole and holy, soul and body, so I can always walk with my head held high.

What God has given us is not taken away from us, for life in Him came through Him, through His Son and by the blood shed for our sins. Anxiety should not be a part of our life, but if it should appear, address it immediately with your mouth filled with God's word, " that we are not anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, we let our requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Regardless of the circumstance, let’s not act out in doubt, haste, or fear! God has drawn near and lives in our hearts. Only the right result in right living is seen in God's peace when He truly reigns in our hearts. Amen.
