Flattery

Spent time reading and hopefully retaining a teaching I was hearing. Hearing a teaching today from Keith Moore. And I have some recorded for later this week and month. But this one captured my hearing when he talked of the meanings in Genesis 1.  Then I thought of Genesis 3!

Genesis 3: 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. 8  And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9  Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?"  10  So he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and i hid myself."   11 And He said, "Who told you that you were naked?  Have you eaten from the tree of which i commanded you that you should not eat?"  12  Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.  13 And the LORD God said to the woman, 'What is this you have done?' The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." 14  So the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15  And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise His heel."

This is divination on the part of the serpent.

He chose to get close to the one weak. He could smell her scent for fruit! God told the serpent that he would eat the dust all the days of his life. Enmity was going to between you and woman. It was between your seed and her seed. He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise His heel.

Ever encountered a couple being divorced or may one spouse is up to no good. But news gets out and you find that the serpent got close to your family or maybe a friend.  There is no good between that which the serpent has used his flesh. He walked before God and after this he covered fleshly things.  He gets close to speak but also to smell the scents given off by the people he is after.

Sin was smelled by the serpent and following close he continues his prowl. He gets close by slithering closer and wraps around the head and chest to close off fresh air to your lungs.

Genesis 3:9-11 NKJV Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from tree which I commanded you that you should not eat?”

1.      Hid: cha-baw (2244) means to secrete….to discharge or generate a secret

2.      To place out of sight, conceal, to shroud

3.      To emit: to send out as a discharge into the environment

4.      One who slinks, sneaks, one who is coward, a snake

Colossians 3:3-5 Amplified Bible 3 For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, Who is our life, appears, the you also will appear with Him [in the splendor of His] glory. 5 So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that employed in sin]; sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God).

Secrets! Secrets and Secrets! Flattery is emitted by the one who is choosing to cross the boundary lines. To HIDE out....to generate a secret. One that is concealed and out of sight. But leaves covered Adam and Eve....hearing the Spirit of God speak still they basked in sin on earth!!!

Hiding will Not Expand the Kingdom of God! Flattery for five minutes might get you into trouble and if not repenting, then you abide in that sin and in darkness.

Luke 13:20-22  NKJV  And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 it is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was leavened.”

1.      The kingdom of God active in and through us would be seen as faith and love exuding from us

2.      That kingdom is seen and revealed from heart to heart

Matthew 13:33-34  Amplified Bible 33 He told them another parable. The kingdom of heaven is like leaven (sour dough) which a woman took and covered over in three measures of meal or flour till all of it was leavened. 34 These things all take together Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed without a parable He said nothing to them.

1.      That special property within the bread brings change, so to the kingdom will come

2.      Each individual changes, sometimes silently, sometimes in dramatic ways,  but sown slowly, will progress into that which is desired

3.      As the temples of God we are to be changed that represents Him in every value to our mind, will and emotions…by the Holy Spirit we are made to prosper and not to be hindered.

Galatians 5:5-9  Amplified Bible 5 For we, [not relying on the Law but] through the [Holy] Spirit’s [help], by faith anticipate and wait for the blessing and good for which our righteousness and right standing with God [our conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action, causes us to hope. 6 For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor un-circumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized and expressed and working through love. 7 You are running your race nobly. Who has interfered in (hindered and stopped you from ) heeding and following the Truth? 8 This [evil] persuasion is not from Him Who called you [Who invited you to freedom in Christ]. 9 A little leaven ( a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church].

Who was your teacher , or who was your guide in righteousness? Did someone touch your ego with a word you have never heard? Is someone trying to touch you in unrighteous ways? Truth is to will out for God in this situation. If you have another and their kids....seed will sprout in trouble, sometimes revenge and hate. Not good if you just wanted five minutes of fun. Sin has a high price, it can look like a tattoo but have a meaning for evil and not for God. Sin takes you longer down the road to sin, especially if you have strong desire to want to sin! YIKES

No flattery please! Like to hear the pleasant words of the Lord that gives strength as we walk in stronger light that speaks future tense of His coming soon.

WE are Preparing the soil of America for the seed of the gospel, for truth and for great change in the teachings we send out weekly. WE Prepare the way for Christ to come to our land, as we continue to appeal, continue to decree, releasing Kingdom authority and God’s will on earth.

The False Will Desert You just like those Who deserted Paul

Do you have friends who come by the name of Phygellus and Hermogenes? Paul certainly had them as friends. He also found them to the false and to desert him quickly.  In reading time when we take communion over this passed weekend, my husband and I came across this passage again in our reading in 2 Timothy. Now in 2 Timothy 1:14-15 NKJV That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. 15 This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me, among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

We hear more in 2 Timothy 3! 2 Tim. 3: 6-17 NKJV For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning & never able to come to the knowledge of truth. 8 Now as Jannes & Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

No doubt, Paul is speaking by the Holy Spirit. He reveals those who creep in using the words like Bible, God, and they even mention Jesus even if they do not believe He came.

A subtlety is seen when the adversary spoke to Eve while Adam was not present! These people are led by various lusts; led away what is the wayward creature of impulse! Ever seen those who have that impulse to shop. Yes, they even lust late at night and will shop to their hearts delight! They will drive a great distance to find a store open for their convenience. Living by impulse or whims is the person who turns on a dime! They see a commercial for a certain thing and they must have it right now!

The Man of God & the Word of God:2 Timothy 3:10- 17  But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, long-suffering, love , perseverance,11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra--what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.13 But evil men & imposters will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have  learned them, 15 & that from childhood, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.16 All Scripture is give by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Paul’s life was intercepted by Jesus, His doctrine from Jesus, his faith in God, his longsuffering with those who opposed him and God’s divine love to continue preaching no matter the cost…revealed this record of sufferings: Antioch: Acts 13:45,50 …Iconium: Acts 14:3-6; Lystra: Acts 14:19-20 ( he most likely died in this occurrence for 2 Corinthians 12:2-3 that he was out of his body…the third heaven he saw…the place of God’s throne. In our reading, we find 3 pairs of men mentioned in this Epistle: Phygellus and Hermogenes:  Mentioned in 2 Tim. 1:15 …ashamed of truth: Hymenaeus and Philetus:  Mentioned in 2 Tim. 2:17-18 ---erred concerning the truth; Mentioned in 2 Tim. 3:18 Jannes / Jambres----resisted its truth

1.   Would we fit any of these guys? In Phygellus and Hermogenes, they were ashamed of the Gospel. Hymenaeus and Philetus erred concerning the truth of the Gospel and Jannes and Jambres resisted its truth.

2.   Jambres: poverty, bitter; a rebel ..Jannes…magician: magic

3.   These two in agreement resided in the poverty of the soul where bitterness oozed….they rebelled as magicians to imitate and cause de-generation…..of the soul!

4.   Imitators, the false, substitute everything in Christianity. They withstand His truth with a cheap perversion / sometimes by magical arts. They even go to the point of denying the deity of Jesus Christ: Christian Scientists, Spiritualists, Christadelphians ( they reject the Trinity ( the immortality of the soul), Jehovah’s Witnesses,  the Way

5.   From Verse 12: all who would live a godly life exposes that which is ungodly, the wicked….but instead of repenting in the face of godliness, the ungodly or wicked one turns on the godly with irrational behavior     they will mock them & slander

6.   Verse 13: evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse. They become more subtle; not only in their methods but also in their attacks; They become ensnared by their own false doctrine. That of Jesus is life by the Holy Spirit generating life, by the anti-christ, apostates slanderers, mockers in degeneration….death!!

Preach the Word: 2 Timothy 4:1-8 NKJV I charge you therefore before God & the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living & the dead at His appearing and His kingdom. 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season & out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap for themselves teachers; 4 & they will turn aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Paul encouraged them to be ready in season and out of season: be ready as the servant of Christ Jesus…fortified in faith…with a trust in Him!  We are to convince: that is to prove or refute…by the Scriptures: the Gospel! We are to rebuke what is false! We are to stay in the true of what God has given us!  We are to exhort or encourage sinners to believe & believers or saints to continue their ‘faith walk’.

Paul speaks of the importance to be long-suffering and teaching….WHY? From V. 3 there are those who will turn from the doctrine: people will give a show of their distaste for God’s word in His holy Scriptures. They will willfully turn away from those teachings: they will desire the comfortable and desire to hear the very pleasing “doctrines”. Wow, what a reward to those once infused with God’s word now choosing to be infused with fables, for a wretched reward!!!! So WHY did Jesus give us the Holy Spirit, because we would need to be comforted when He speaks truth and we have to change something that is not in alignment with HIM! When the Lord speaks in His teaching or through a prophetic word, will always be the word confirming what the believer is praying and believing for. It will encourage the believer in that prayer they continue in and the word will comfort them.

2 Timothy 4:6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Paul’s great example here is that he was not through with his race, but that he was still the athlete in place expecting to finish….. he was the example of the soldier, the athlete and farmer…he continued!

1.   He also notes emphatically that he will receive the crown of righteousness as all those who love Jesus’ appearing.

2.   The goal was now in his sight! What had been given him, he guarded, what he gave to others, he expected them to give to others…& it would be given in purity. That crown of righteousness is given to those who have loved His appearing!

From 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Divine Inspiration: God speaking to us, it is given to enlighten us, He inspires strength in us, He speaks life into our hearts when we find the darkest days………This does not come from human intellect or human inspiration but is God breathed into us each time we choose to read it, each time we choose to mediate on it:  to embrace His life, we see from His perspective. Our eyes are open to the visions of life ongoing in Him. In this day and hour we are to give God’s truth the Gospel to others. Those obeying His commands to go…will continue to live and they have lives that reveal fruit of His kingdom that has come. Those lives reveal that we are one with Him….abiding in His truth, preaching and teaching in the favorable and the unfavorable times! We appear in His peace and His joy! Amen.

An Example of When Hopes are Crushed by:  a sudden death of a spouse, by a sudden loss of a family member, a sudden divorce, the loss of a future by extreme assaults on one’s health or on one’s body as in walking or speaking or even the loss of the One who would be King as the apostles experienced: Romans 5:5 Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who was given to us.

We can see people who followed Jesus were crushed in their hopes because they did not want see Him dying as the suffering Messiah but wanted Him as the conquering Messiah! They greatly desired the Roman Empire to be removed from them, the Jewish nation.

Road to Emmaus:  Luke 24 Now behold two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 and they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. 17 & He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?”

Luke 24: 18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are YOU the only stranger in Jerusalem, & have You have not known the things which happened there in these days?” 19 & He said to them, “What things?”

So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God & all the people, 20  “and how the chief priests & our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death and crucified Him.” 21 “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. “  Luke 24: 22 “Yes, certain women of our company who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us.”  Astonished: as to out of their wits….to them it was silly nonsense

Luke 24: 23 “When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 “and certain of those who were with us went to the tomb & found it just as the women had said: but Him they did not see.”    25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!” 26 “Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 and beginning at Moses & all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Him-self.

Yes, these two began to tell Jesus what had happened to Jesus! In their experience of the last few days, their trust in Him was not trust at all.  In their pain, they continued to give detail after detail of their sadness to Him who asked. They had held no strength within them. They hearts failed them! Proverbs 24:10....10 If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.  NKJV………………………adversity: trouble, distress

Then Jesus tells them O foolish ones, slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken….”Ought NOT the Christ to have suffered these things and enter into His glory?” And beginning at Moses & the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Him-self.

When Christ asked them: Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things & to enter into his glory? Yes, Jesus had to tell them about Jesus! He rebukes them & expounds on the Scriptures: The Jewish people believed a part for His glory and the ‘greatness of His kingdom’ but were not of those prophecies that mentioned his sufferings and humility. They wanted a conquering Messiah. They wanted someone with attitude for ruler-ship not for suffering!

Luke 24: 28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But they constrained Him, saying “Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went into stay with them. 30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, & gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened & they knew Him; & He vanished from their sight. ( you will only recognize Jesus in that which you have spent time in relationship in speaking with Him, praying and walking the path less traveled)

Luke 24: 32 and they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, & while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour & returned to Jerusalem, & found the eleven & those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “ The Lord is risen indeed,& has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road & how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.  Report from Emmaus: The two now told the group in the meeting at Jerusalem all that Jesus had revealed to them.  What was done to Jesus by men of tradition frightened those who followed Jesus.  There were few who was at His side at the Cross. And these two are those who went to Emmaus leaving Jerusalem…behind.

They  had chose ….to leave that which held as controversy, adversity & pain. They chose to move away from it. But in speaking with Jesus on the roadway, they asked Him to abide with them that evening! Then He became their HOST! They gathered strength in those Scriptures and truth. In His mode of hospitality He gave them the kingdom of God.  Now with eyes opened to the Scriptures Jesus who taught them ….their Teacher again made clear to them what was before them!  What is given by the spirit always remains….one who dies will know if they are in heaven or hell…for their spirit man will reside there…like in..Luke 16:19-31 of the Rich man and Lazarus.

Paul was held in prison and chains, but the Lord held place in Paul's heart. So too, when we choose to allow Him to come, He will host His presence in our hearts by His word. He announces appointments, and precise wisdom to prosper in the road on the way to meeting Him at His coming. People will come and go in our lives, but our focus is on Jesus, the giving of truth and His peace and see change come for the good! We must go forward in Him, always expecting growth and joy. We expect to touch other’s hearts with a confirmation of our salvation in God, our encouragement is we are on the right path and are comforted in His goodness where safety is secured!

I have a heart desire to close with this about people and situations that can occur either weekly, monthly or even daily. Our family is in Texas at this time. They were with a group of families for the 4th of July to celebrate our independence as a Republic planned by God Himself. In this celebration, the heat of the day wore on strongly. A little guy about 4 years became faint by the latter part of the day. They were not sure of what fluids he had taken in, but they carried him to the water to cool him down. The youngest of the four children, the mother held tunnel hearing when our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter spoke. She knew they would speak the life of God into her young son.  They named life in Jesus Christ. They called healing in His name. They spoke against evil and death as many ran to his side as he became limp in that heat. But our son-in-law, daughter who were the first on the scene with one other guy who turned out to be paramedic off duty continued to work on the child. The family knew our family and received their words of truth and help in the Lord. The mother kept her tunnel hearing of truth and did not hear lies of the enemy.

Our granddaughter brought up the rear while the activity continue and it was later when she was asked with all going on, and Jesus proclaimed in the little boys’ life, how she kept her peace. And she responded that we cannot help others if we are in chaos. She spoke to the ten year old whose younger brother who fainted in the heat of that day. Quinn spoke " Jesus said in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” The Lord not only wants us to know His peace, but also He wants us to distribute His peace.  She spoke she had to be in the Lord’s peace to do what needed to be done for the little four year old in dire straits.

So well spoken by a young girl with God’s wisdom.

The body of Christ needs healing and needs those who sow seeds of peace instead of discord. If we want peace in our churches and homes, then we must be the ones who are the peacemakers. We do not need a false friend. We require Jesus. And if we obey the Lord and walk in His light, His peace will come to our entire family. “And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children” (Isaiah 54:13). By following the Prince of Peace, we can bring His peace into our midst. Isaiah 54:13 NKJV And all your [spiritual] children shall be disciples [taught by the Lord and obedient to His will], and great shall be the peace & undisturbed composure of your children. [see John 6:45]

I pray that we would all in a situation where a person's life is hovering between life and death, that we resist the false friends, choose life in Jesus and continue to be strong in His love, peace and  power. For then we distribute His peace indeed. Well said, and yes, well done, prayer answered, as the young boy walked out of the hospital at 2 am the next morning, invigorated with God's life, ready to live long in Jesus. Amen.

Between the Moral and the Immoral Alternatives

Was reflecting on a couple of passages in the Old Testament and I thought of Eve and son Cain. Like mother, like son in that they both added something not given by God, but their own choice in will and speaking. And what is the choice when these are facing a person: remembering a sinner to choose godliness or sinful indulgence? Yet, we have been given salvation by faith through Jesus. This grace whereby we have been saved, it is the gift of God to us found in Ephesians 2:8. In this undeserved kindness, we see in action, a love so wonderful and to be realized with great things coming in our future with God and His Son!

But like I mentioned in the beginning I was thinking of Eve and Cain. It those who keep talking when they should be listening!

Genesis 3: 1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

Now God did not say “touch it” but He did say not eat that fruit! So Eve had a thought process already in movement. If you are intent on that fruit, you most certainly will have to touch it to eat it!

Genesis 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You shall not surely die.” 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

These two were made in God’s image! Still we have a woman set on self-rule and not on God dependency. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Genesis 3:6….so when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, & a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit & ate. She also gave to her husband with her, & he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, & they knew that they were naked; & they sewed fig leaves together & made themselves coverings.

Adam knew she had eaten and was in the process of learning death and decay. So he ate with her so as to not allow her to go alone into that pitiful place! Man is to resemble God his maker: Genesis 5:1 This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male & female, & blessed them & called them Mankind in the day they were created. ( Did not make them Adam and Steve, but Adam and Eve!)

And then in Revelation 1:8 Jesus tells us that He has the keys to death and hell…the very thing the devil caused in the first man & woman. Jeremiah 17:9 says, his heart is desperately wicked. Jesus reinforces this in Matthew 15:19-20: "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man. . . ."

If one were to present a truly converted person with the same options, he would choose the life of virtue, peace and love. He would know he is righteous in God, born again into the kingdom of God where there is much light and life!

Eve plunged into a deep spiral toward death and decay.

Then we find Cain in Genesis 4. In Genesis 4:1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife and she conceived and bore Cain and said, “I have acquired a man from the LORD.” 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat.

And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 So the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?” 7 “If you do well, will you not be accepted?” And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.

( Just adding a note here: Cain is trying to do what his parents were to do in the beginning. But they failed to do what God instructed. And the garden of Eden was closed to them. Now Cain pushes the envelope, but man sinned and required a sacrifice.)

8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. 9 Then the LORD said to Cain, : Where is Abel your brother? He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 And He said, “What have you done?  The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. 11 So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.” 13 And Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear!” 14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me. 15 And the LORD said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him seven-fold. And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.

Cain slew his brother Able in the field. He did not like what God spoke to him!

Cain’s heart was one of attitude and revenge. He was not a “happy camper” with God.  From verse 9 of Genesis 4, Cain tells God this: “ Am I my brother’s keeper? Evil shows itself most often in verbal violence. In fact, the Apostle Paul quotes Psalm 10:7 to show that everyone, Jews and Gentiles alike, are under the power of sin (Romans 3:14). And James says  " And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. "(James 3:6)

And from a violent heart comes violent actions.

So he speaks out, probably yelling verse 14 : “ Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.”

Cain put a bounty on his head! All he had to do was repent. He added to what God had spoken and was determined to get revenge. But God protected Cain with this symbol, the ‘mark on Cain’. Anyone who tried to kill Cain would know they would be responsible to payback seven fold the wrath.

Why did God spare the life of the world's first murderer instead of taking it? One reason is that he had not yet given man a command not to murder another human. Such a command will be given, however, right after Noah leaves the ark after the floodwaters subside (Genesis 9:6). An additional (and likely more important) reason he was allowed to live is so that other humans would be warned of God's view and judgment on sin. God would not allow it!

Seen in Genesis 4:15, God gives warning: “whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him seven-fold.”  Wow, what a warning! Anyone attempting to further punish Cain by death would contradict his purpose of allowing him to be a living witness of his judgment.  It was God Himself who reserved punishment for the crime of murder on Abel. No one would override God’s wisdom and authority on this rebellion done.

The “mark of Cain” had nothing to do with changing his skin color or anything like that.  Man is made in God’s image. We are all one blood in the lineage from Adam and Eve. The mark of Cain revealed he did not worship God but worshiped himself instead.

Psalm 10: 3-11 NKJV For the wicked boasts of the desires of his heart’s desire,

He blesses the greedy and renounces the LORD. 4 The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts. 5 His ways are always prospering; Your judgments are far above, out of his sight; As for all his enemies, he sneers at them. 6 He has said in his heart, “ I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity.” 7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is trouble and iniquity. 8 He sits in the lurking places of the villages; in the secret places he murders the innocent; His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless. 9 He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; He lies in wait to catches the poor; He catches the poor when he draws him into his net. 10 So he crouches, he lies low, that the helpless may fall by his strength. 11 He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see.”

We are told in verse 3 of Psalm 10 that the wicked pursue the poor. They turn on them because they first turned against God. And this is what Cain did. These wicked boast and are proud in their desires. They desired and pursued even though it is the wrong thing in God’s eyes.

Like Cain, he had a greed and it got him into some trouble.  The heart determines one's preferences and inclinations, and thus it determines one's choices, subjecting the will to it. Murder came in the package from Satan and his demons. They communicated that to man through the course of this world. YOU can see that in the Flood in Genesis 6. The world has shaped our pre-conversion heart, and thus it affects our relationship with God.

Yes, Cain was marked for he was a man of cursing and deceit. He had desires to hurt others like he did his brother Abel. God marked the man of murder. But God would not allow him to die in that way. He would live as a vagabond.

Between the moral and the immoral alternatives, outside of God is death and destruction. Within His boundaries is life and much light guiding us the way home! Eve could have had any tree in the garden, but the one God said “NO” to! Before her was the bounty of many trees with much fruit to be had for two people. But that lust of the eyes is deadly indeed! And Cain did not give the sacrifice that God delighted in, nor  had the respect for, so what Cain had done had not met the requirement needed to worship God.

Lawlessness takes us out of the plan of God.  Lawlessness brings a haphazard kind of life, if you can call it that. OUR Confidence should be in God and the promises He has given us. His promises were given to be planted within our hearts and rely on the truth so that we shall see them come to pass in our lives. God has abundance. He has no lack in anything: He is GOD!

We must submit to God and resist the devil. In that we set the standard of God in our lives. Without His standard and the haphazard lawless way of living, other catastrophes might occur to end’s one life. It will mark places like Sodom and Gomorrah. It will be something that is seen decades later or thousands of years later, a place where no man lives.

Cain would be a vagabond, not living long enough to really settle anywhere for his heart could not allow him to do that. Land was cursed so that any seed he put there would not produce for him. Repentance was the required antidote to hell. Surely we should desire to see God and His goodness and not turn away.

It is the testimony of faith that we speak of every good thing we have through Him: abundance not in things, but in God who desires to give us His kingdom. It is a life totally occupied with the kingdom of God that is free from attitudes, freedom in His love and mercy where a grateful heart and a joy in the heart abound in the grace of God!

God is not forgetful nor is He negligent. Instead God is patient and kind with sinners, giving them every opportunity to turn away from their sin and repent. The Scriptures warn us not to draw the wrong conclusion when God is patient with our sin.

And what is the choice when these are facing a person: remembering a sinner to choose godliness or sinful indulgence? What will we choose?
