Nursery Rhymes and Dire Straits

Be cautious what you chase after.....you might get into dire straits!
Was hearing of the people this weekend who remembered and spoke of those nursery rhymes of given traditions in these United States of America....."now I  lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take"!

You may have heard of them of your youth if you find yourself as old as me! And yes, that would certainly take you back decades if your parents related those teachings to you. Some might say they never heard it. But my question would be: "did your parents not speak to you about Jesus?"
For by tradition, many books were handed down with nursery rhymes and poems to be spoken to children. Many story books held that of that "cow that jumped over the moon"! My question was "who let that cow out of the barn?"

Of course, we know there is no power in those words that are written as fantasy and fairy tales. You might have faith in them, but that is a belief from tradition and is fractured indeed! And many people have faith in their traditions! But after many decades of doing those traditional things, they find they do them without even thinking why they continue to do them when they bring no life to the observance of them!

One such lady I thought of in this writing, was a woman that never knew why her mother cut their super-size turkey in half for roasting at Thanksgiving. She saw her mother do it and so she did it as well!
In her later years, and children grown, they joined her mother again for a Thanksgiving meal and the mother told her she only did that when the woman now grown was a child of about six years old. She said, "if you remember we lived in a two bedroom apartment and there were five us living there. And the oven only held half-of-the-bird. So I had to cut it in pieces to fit it in that small apartment type oven.
But today, you have no issues. All the appliances should hold that 20 pound turkey with no problems! So all those years, the grown woman had continued to cut her turkey in half to prepare it like she had observed as a six year old girl!

In thinking about this and praying the last two days on this, I was reminded of Luke 24:5.
Why do you seek the living among the dead? This was angels speaking to those women who came to the tomb of Jesus. Verse 4 of Luke 24 reads : And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold two men stood by them in shining garments. And the angels continued to speak in verse 6: "He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee. Verse 7: "saying, The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.'"

Jesus certainly was put in a tomb, but He left it like He said He would do! What Jesus spoke had power in those words!

Matthew 15:1-20 NKJV Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2 "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." 3 He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 " For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother' and 'He who curses father or mother; let him be put to death.' 5 "But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother,' "Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God."-----6 'then he need not honor his father or mother.'Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8 These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"10 When He had called the multitude to Himself. He said to them, "Hear and understand: 11 "Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth , this defiles a man."
Matthew 15: 12 Then His disciples came and said to him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?" 13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch." 15 Then Peter answered and said to him, "Explain this parable to us." 16 So Jesus said, "Are you also still without understanding? 17 'Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication's, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

We should be beware of those who teach religious traditions over the word of God. And those who so seriously teach things whether from Atzec Indians from how many hundreds of years ago to prove it is not common to one country but to another and still leave God Almighty out of it! Seriously speaking, God sent His Son, that Son of His great love to die on the Cross for each of us. It does not matter what country, what skin color or what language, Jesus died for mankind. Yet many still want to prove their right and the other person is wrong, and all are on their way to hell. YIKES!
And today we see people setting these things up in schools and elsewhere, yet it has nothing to do with reading, writing, or learning mathematics. And it certainly has nothing to do with the history of this nation.

For certainly worship of the heart has to be from a heart that loves God, whose Son is Jesus, whose Holy Spirit is with us to guide us in our daily walk with Him. This is not about some spiritual guide who lived thousands of years ago to lead you down that path that has the aroma of death, stinks like sulfur and appears as a fire on a horizon not too far from your pathway.

In Jesus is light and life. Without Him, you and I can do nothing! And be cautious of building altars to worship the dead. We are to build an altar within our heart, within our homes and that is found in a heart that loves Him, reveres Him and seeks to have that constant connection with Him.
Forsake any display of religion that is done primarily for man's approval. Pray and ask the Lord for His guidance that you not be succored into mindless things the enemy tries to use to gain people's time just for wasting it.

If your are spending time with people who dearly love to build altars to the dead, find new friends. We love our family members while they exist. We do not talk with them after they pass on. YOU do that and you will find yourself talking with demons. We are to seek life among the living. We are to know God as our highest priority. If we are looking at death all the time, then what is the condition of our heart? For prayer should be for the living not the those who already passed onto to life or death!

I certainly remember my paternal grandmother on her birthday. I remember how we loved to sew and create with fabrics and crochet thread. I remember she quilted for many years but I do not pray for her today. I loved that she loved eating hamburgers like I did, but I do not pray for her today. That time passed when she passed. What she gave to the Lord in her time on this earth is set. There is no changing it now!

My husband and I always drive by a cemetery on our way to the visit our children in the next county over from us. I do not pray for those who lie there in those coffins, but I do pray for those who do the upkeep of the grounds. And I do pray for those who may remain alive today who might have laid a loved one in a box in that cemetery. I also pray their lives would prove to be fruitful for the kingdom of God and not for the sake of tradition created by man himself.

James 3:16 tell us this: For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. We should never desire to want to hand our purity to a physical or spiritual seducer. Our salvation depended on Jesus and His trip to the Cross when He would die for man-kind. He did not shrink from death but He shrank from the thought of sin. He knew what it did to man-kind!
Proverbs 4:1 Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding; 2 for I give you good doctrine;

Proverbs 5:7 Therefore hear me now my children, & do not depart from the words of my mouth.;

Proverbs 7:24-26 NKJV Now therefore listen to me, my children pay attention to the words of my mouth 25 Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray into her paths; 26 For she has cast down many wounded, and all who were slain by her were strong men.

Every living person who knows God should be willing to take another look at “therefore”…for here it means because immorality leads people of any age to be mounted like a head on wall, to be trapped in a cage, to be stuffed, or snared.....that is dangerous indeed!. Romans 8:12-13 NKJV 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors----not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Godly purity stands in stark contrast to the social standards that a culture sets for a couple, for a family or for the individual! Are we chasing the next big thing that amounts to wasted time? We could look like the squirrel on the teacup trying to reach for something that is wrong and unsafe for us!

The covenant with God is loyalty as it is with the couple. We have the Holy Spirit of promise and His guidance is to be living for God with embattlements of silver to fortify that wall for we will speak words of Wisdom, have on the breastplate of righteousness having shod our feet with the gospel of peace wherewith we use the shield of our faith to stand offensively in prayer to engage in the battle of those strongholds that a culture can present.

Sustained by the Holy Spirit you and I can glorify God according to His will to see His kingdom come. Being jealous for the Lord, is revering Him and staying in that intimacy that marks that we are sealed by His Spirit rising in power for purpose that glorifies God in all our relationships, both young and old!
It is time to put away childish things and live for God in the power of His might! Amen!

Challenge Worry with Life Building Thoughts

Worry!
How can one possibly challenge worry?

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
Matthew 6:28 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Matthew 6:31 Therefore do not worry, saying, "What shall we drink? or What shall we wear?' 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

If we look at the context of how this is given, we find that Matthew 6 points to do good to please God. Matthew 6:1 Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
So seeking God is paramount and high over that of trying to gain praise from men.
Jesus goes on to enlist prayer in Matthew 6:5-15 and then He talks about fasting to be seen only by God and not to go tell the many you know of your fasting practices.
Then Jesus gives the warning of avarice. Because avarice had a friend attached and he is called anxiety!
Now Jesus does not prohibit material possessions but He does object to material possessions having rule over us and tying us to this earth. For those selfish in nature will chase that extravagant materialism and we should seek not to have that kind of eye.
Jesus goes on to mention the importance of our eye and that if our eye is bad, our whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in us is darkness, how great is that darkness!
We should be running to have a relationship with the Lord so we have a developed commitment to Him, to His will and to His ways.

When we get to Matthew 6:24 we find Jesus talking about one cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve God and mammon. We will either serve God or we will serve money. Proverbs tells us that riches has wings and will fly away.
Proverbs 23:4-5 Do not work to be rich; because or your own understanding, cease! 5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly can make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

I know about twenty years ago that there was much teaching about how God wanted us to prosper and they emphasized money. But God wants us to manage money so it will not manage us. I heard a report the other day of how many people are maxed out on their credit cards again just like those back in 2008 and 2009!  And we know a lot that happened and contributed to the scandalous practices of money lenders then was about bankers in many loaning departments loaned people money to buy homes they could not afford to pay back, for what they made monthly was short of their required payment needed monthly for repayment!

Worry causes us to be divided from our attention toward God. If our vision of God is divided by money matters, our vision is then divided. And division will divide one into portions and pieces. Daily needs occur, but it should not be that which brings division for that is unfruitful. Worry moves us out of faith and into unbelief. It is acting like God does not exist when He certainly does exist.

My husband and I just saw last week ( November 12) of the planet Neptune having the two moons, and one of them rotates around the planet, but the other moon is stationary. The one moon actively rotating does this oscillation move  that avoids the stationary moon when it makes its orbit close to it. NASA had just released this picture showing what it look like and I was in 'awe' of a great God who created these two moons that project the very existence of His glorious skill in being the Creator!
In viewing this orbit, this dancing motion of a moon, the orbiting moon moves consistently away out of line of the stationary moon and keeps right on moving through its ordered orbit around Neptune. Amazing!

So how could you or I be worried about tomorrow, about money or even healing when we have a God who has such strategy to move us out of harm's way to continue in the step of full light when we first seek Him and His plan for our lives? Our lives are in His hands. He has greater care for us because He has a plan for us.
Whatever provision we require, it will always follow that person whose priorities are concerned with God's ways, His work and His will which is His kingdom. If God's kingdom has come into our lives, then it is His rule we will see and His provision will flow to us without hindrances.
Jesus faced temptation at key moments of His ministry: in the wilderness prior to His public ministry, prior to His transfiguration and prior to His crucifixion.
Like Jesus, we have to know that we are a son of God, and when we know we have this walk of faith, we cannot be deterred by the Peter's in this life! For Jesus told them in Matthew 16:21-27 that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised the third day. ( Matthew 16:21) Yet Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!"
Then Jesus rebuked Peter! Matthew 16:23 "Get behind Me Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."
And remember Satan said the same to Jesus denoting that he could avoid suffering when Jesus met him in the wilderness and before the ministry began!
And right before Jesus was taken in the Garden of Gethsemane, it was time for praying, but the disciples could not stay awake one hour to pray with Him!

Worry can appear, but we must take it captive with the words of Jesus.  The kingdom is presented and we are to live by faith as Jesus did in that grace that was presented to the world! Although many will not heed the love of God that came in the package of Jesus Christ, still He is the only way to the Father. (John 14:6)
Jesus told us in John 14:7 If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." Jesus was always about revealing the Father and His love for His creation.

We have so many opportunities to see the Father in all His glory, like the two moons around the planet Neptune, in the Scripture of His Son's crucifixion or even of His birth. But alas, those who truly believe are those who will do the same works as Jesus and will do greater works because Jesus returned to His Father who sent Him. For whatever we ask in His name, that he will do, that the Father be glorified in the Son.
Only faith, that trust in Jesus will bring the required results but worry will only bring a divided focus, a divided vision of what is before us. And if His name is on it, He will do it for He spoke it from the foundation of the world.
Worry today and be dismissed tomorrow to lack and no vision. But challenge worry and build your thought life with His thoughts and you will see and do greater things for it by His grace, that we achieve His kingdom's purposes for His glory indeed! Amen

Just Lip Service

Proverbs 28:4-5 NKJV Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but such as keep the law contend with them. 5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all.
Psalm 92: 6 A senseless man does not know, nor does a fool understand this.7 When the wicked spring up like grass, and when all the workers of iniquity flourish, it is that they may be destroyed forever.

In Jeremiah 12, the prophet has a question for God! Judgment was most certainly coming to those who just had lip service for God. Those were people who were described having trust in lying words. In other words, they had itching ears to only what they desired to hear. There appeared no repentance on those who were about to have judgment visit them.

In Jeremiah 7:18, it was the whole family that participated in the "queen of heaven". It was the children who gathered the wood, the father who kindled the fire and the women would knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven and that together also have drink offerings to these gods! And what these worshiped and participated together would bring judgment of everything and everyone else around them.
Judgment was coming to them that did not obey the voice of the LORD their God. They neither received correction and God said that truth had perished and was cut off from their mouth. The children of God had done evil in His sight. They had built high places to Tophet which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which God did not command them to do.
God continued to declare that their leaders bones would be scattered under the sun in the day and under the moon at night. ( Jeremiah 8:2) They would fall and not rise due to their hearing only false teachings. As those considered wise men had refused the spoken word of God through the prophets, they would be dealt with and they would not see peace in their time.

The prophet Jeremiah declares his mourn for the people. Jeremiah 9:1-3 NKJV "Oh, that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! 2 Oh, that I had in the wilderness a lodging place for travelers; that I might leave my people, and go from them! For they are all adulterers, and assembly of treacherous men. 3 And like their bow they have bent their tongues for lies. They are not valiant for the truth on the earth. For they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know Me, says the LORD."

Yes, as the weeping prophet, he had wept for them to turn from their wicked ways and here we see he would love to get away from them. He did not see those leaders turn and heed truth to teach others truth. A noise was going out and that noise appeared as a great commotion out of the north country. (this was Judah) The covenant is broken: they would not obey the voice of the LORD! (Jeremiah 11:7) And in all this, now Jeremiah's own life is being threatened. He is told to prophesy no more in the name of the LORD----lest you die by our hand....is what they presented the prophet in their speaking! (Jeremiah 11:21)

So back to Jeremiah's question. God speaks this in Jeremiah 12: 5-6 NKJV "If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trust, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan? 6 For even your brothers, the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; yes, they have called a multitude after you. Do not believe them, even though they speak smooth words to you."  Jeremiah 12:13 "They have sown wheat but reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain but do not profit. but be shamed of your harvest because of the fierce anger of the LORD."

Yes, judgment was coming and the prophet is warned that the troubles he has seen will increase indeed! And God laments at this decision, but they will not repent and turn.
In this passage, Jeremiah is most likely the one who gives the example of someone willing to walk by faith when others do not. He is willing to speak what God the Lord has spoken and not man's words. He is willing to obey regardless of the personal cost to himself. Jeremiah was mocked, and scorned, and was numerous times disregarded. But Jeremiah was always going to God for his answer.

Are we giving lip service to God or are we really seeking time with Him to know what tomorrow holds for us? We may not be given the answer that we seek, but He will confirm His love to us and will confirm He is with us.
The Almighty God came to earth and as the humble man conformed his will to that of the Father in whom there is no shadow of turning. God never changes for He is the same yesterday, today and forever. What He spoke in Genesis 1, He reveals light be in every circumstance we encounter. And though men might confess faith but reveal unrighteous behavior, still our conduct should be the dictate of the righteous heart that has been set on the things of God.

For if we deal treacherously with our neighbors what outcome should we not expect but judgment! Ultimately the wicked will perish and God's righteousness will be vindicated. May we know that we are not to be right in our own eyes, but seek Him who knows all. For certainly in Him, we live, move and have our being.
Evil men do not understand justice! Isaiah 44:18-20 NKJV  18 They do not know nor understand; for He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand. 19 And no once considers in his heart, nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have burned half of it in the fire, yes, I have also backed bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it; & shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?" 20 He who feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has turned him aside; & he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?"

In short, the tree is taken down for use in the fire and that which is left is made into an idol that is an abomination to God and to wise men. The beautiful growing tree provides cover in summer and shade from the heat. It provides safety for birds and animals that come to find its stately spread an inviting place to rest.
But as the cut down tree only amounts to heat for a moment, and a fire to prepare a meal yet what is the advantage when the people use it for worship to that which gives to no life and no hope. For worshiping idols is done by those drawn away of their own lusts. Their heart is of the evil nature and they reside in unbelief.

The idolaters hold a lie in their right hand, their hearts set upon the wealth of the world and the pleasures for their flesh. For if we place all our beliefs in those things, when the end comes what grounds would one have for gaining heaven? They would have no hope in ever seeing the Lord in all His majesty and glory. For all that we do: all the performances and the mask wearing will prove a life built on sand. For 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 reminds us of this: 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. Each of us will believe something and each of us speaks something from the heart. Is our heart drawn toward God and life with goodness in the land of the living or are we bent toward with a heart set for evil and destruction for the unrighteous will never inherit the kingdom of God!

I do not know about you, but I want to be found with God. I want to be found worshiping the Lord of glory to abide with Him where He can be found for He is not far from anyone of us! ( Acts 17:27)
