If Your Heart is Wise

 

Proverbs 23:15-18 NKJV  My son, if your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice----indeed, I myself; 16 yes, my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak right things. 17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day; 18 For surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off.

 In this what they call the modern society, the world has large quantities of commercials to show you want you really want and need. They show you these exotic places of white glistening sand, and beautiful aqua colored oceans with waiters bringing some kind of drink in glasses with flowers decorating its opening. I saw one the other evening I told my husband when these folks make a reservation to exotic island, they should make sure that the camera crew, the sound media team and party instigators are there as well.

Because the couples’ wardrobe looks good on those doing the commercial, but may not fit the one going to exotic island. And the “one” going on this trip may not need an alcoholic beverage because they have had issues in their past with all kinds of liquor.  And will everyone still be dancing, kicking sand up with naked toes, and laughing without any control when the visit is finished and the plane ride is the next thing home!  Masks anyone?

I told my husband I wanted to go to this one car dealership who advertises constantly on T.V. and ask them if we could take out one of their vehicles for a test drive and ask them if I could drive it like their commercials show. I mean we can certainly see those who hi-jacked someone’s car do all kinds of jumps over barbed-wire fencing, flying over the top of an interstate exit and slam into a tree to prove it can stand the strain. But the looks of it on the outside  describes it only as that of destruction and of no use to anyone. And for those commercials, and I could list many here, but I am not sure what these people are trying to sell: only destructive type driving skills, destroy the new vehicle in short time by driving over gravel roads, snow and ice and traveling at 100 miles per hour or so to  prove what? For those who have hijacked someone else’s vehicle, some have taken this to the max for they certainly took it from those commercials! Well if they are demonstrating that, is that right for us to do?

My son, if your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice---indeed, I myself.  When our daughter was growing up, we were all about her education, then her development to live in a home and do work as others living within that home. There was things to been done in living under one roof. We expected her development to grow in the workplace and did not stop her from getting work as her grades always maintained that 4.0. She knew if she owned a car, she was going to pay for all its maintenance. There would be no forgetting insurance or any other thing connected to its maintenance.

Then Proverbs 23:16 yes, my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak right things. 17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day; 18 For surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off.

And this is a must for children to not curse their parents or any family member. Children as they grow are to respect their parents and I am certain some parents did not live unto their parenting roles as expected, but you have the parents you have been given by the Lord. Whether they be right or wrong, still it is God who will judge.  He has His eyes on those who He is looking to be His own children. And we are to obey His instruction when becoming that born again unto His kingdom which has come to us spiritually.

We are to speak right things. We are to speak right about our lives, about our parents and about the faith we have in our Lord Jesus.

Our faith is to demonstrate where our trust resides! A deliberate trust will reveal who we serve. And certainly God the Lord does not want the members of His church to follow the example of unbelief! Hebrews 4:2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who hear it. We are to not just hear Gods gospel of truth but we are to believe it. We are to share it, participate in it and yes be a companion to it! Partaking of Christ is a daily activity. We are to understand and live in cooperation to God’s kingdom, and it comes by the revelation of the Holy Spirit to us. It is the Holy Spirit revealing Jesus to us, to help us focus on adoring Him in His perfect reflection of God’s glory and by His blood, our minds are cleansed to serve him without hesitation.

It was the prophet Isaiah who penned words here in Isaiah 43:1-3, 5 Fear not, for I have redeemed you;  I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; “Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west;

Throughout His Word it is God Who has promised us His protection. And He is especially watchful to protect those who will carry out His great command! Those who will be His witnesses, whether in Seattle, Washington, or Lyle, Washington, whether it be in Tokyo, Japan or the Isle of Man. God can deliver you from those who might want to harm you in evil ways. He gave us parents that we might learn of Him and know Him. And for some today, many never had a parent to teach them of Jesus or the right way to live. Oh, they might teach them of being slaves to something, but not experiencing life that is free in Jesus Christ. And the Lord Jesus can deliver us from situations that are life-threatening, and deliver us into that peaceful place but He does not guarantee to cover our foolishness when we ourselves persist into putting our lives in those potentially dangerous situations. He is God and He abhors being tempted as if He needs to prove Himself and His power to us. ( example seen in Psalm 78)

As parents we have that desire that our children grow up safe and act as mature individuals showing responsibility to their own lives and for showing a compassion for their neighbors. And that “faith” thing appears in whether we truly trust in the Lord or just throwing some words around and see if they stick to anything.

 In Mark 16:17-18   NKJV   17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

 NOW this account is only given in the book of Mark!  We also know that there are presented here that point to the commission of the apostles: as in Matthew 28: 16-20 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20”teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. ( and is also found Luke 24:36-49)

But it is here in the book of Mark that we are given this:  “signs will follow those who believe.” Now there are Christians who will deliberately handle snakes ( and yes this is tempting God), but in truth the very meaning has to do with trust that Christians are protected if they are bitten. We are reminded of Paul on that ship headed toward Rome. NO cruise ship and no islands of pleasure with music, men delivering mixed drinks to the cabana, nor people dancing toasting the day away, no this was on the island of Malta.

And the ship Paul was on, well, it fell apart into splinters, for the seas were rough and those who should have been paying attention to Paul’s warnings, decided they knew more about ships, and the seas, so these navigators, ship owners, and even a centurion made up their own minds about it! But warnings came by the Holy Spirit to stay put and you will know that even today, money speaks louder than words. Stay put and people go headlong into disasters!

Acts 28:1-6 Now when they had escaped, they then found out that the island was called Malta. 2 And the natives showed us un usual kindness; for they kindles a fire and made us all welcome, because of the rain that was falling and because of the cold. 3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. 4 So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a  murderer whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.  5 But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. 6 However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him,  they changed their minds and said that he was a god.

 

It was Luke the physician who wrote in Luke 10:17-20 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” 18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19”Behold, I give you that authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

He also recorded in Acts 5:12... . through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people."

BUT Mark says: Mark 16:17…. . these signs will follow those who believe."  He did not list who they were just that to all believers, to all Christians, regardless of when they live, they will have sings to follow them.

Well, for Paul he had prayed and the Holy Spirit revealed to him of the trip to Rome and what would transpire if they did not wait! In Paul what was revealed was a man led by the Holy Spirit in His power, love and sound mind. And is that operating within us? For any parent, we desire great things for our children and our grandchildren, but it will come by trusting in the Lord and praying for them. We desire our children and grandchildren to be the wise, to revere God, respect their parents who gave them a home to live in and the resources to grow and become what God intended. And prayer is the thing required to see it come to pass. Prayer is the major purpose for us to draw near to God for us to be comparing spiritual things with spiritual…that is …….spiritually discerning. And we do that  with the Holy Spirit for we will harmonize with God when we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us through prayer. With God’s Spirit we are eternally equipped to live eternally in peace and oneness with God, to hear what He has spoken & what He has done so that we do the same.  Praying stimulates our faith, helps us to trust more fully & to lean on & in His truth.  

Faith is paramount! Hopefully you will not be on a cruise distend to stormy seas, where the cruise director has never you locked down because of some corona-virus thing or the such? Psalm 37:37 Mark the blameless man and observe the upright; for the future of that man is peace.

Surely we will not be those who blame another for our failure if we have not prayed for our spouse, our children or neighbor? Surely we will not be those who whine and complain when our desire is not met for this nation or its leaders, if we have not touched God with prayer?  May we bring into remembrance His words spoken …so surely deliberate that we will not lead those astray in thinking we are all that, but that we are among His people, we are led by His power for His glory and in Him we will continue to see light, will see the wise among His own and declare His glory for He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Wait patiently in Him for in Him there is nothing to fear and nothing to be envious about! Amen.

WHY Have You Put a Luggage Tag on Your Big Toe

 My husband and I were watching this adventure type show: two older women who do that special garden work ( those who studied horticulture and the such) and how they use their expertise to solve those varied problems in people’s gardens which look more like parks and situated within in the United Kingdom. One such episode they made this observation about how people carry their problems around while alive with the noted truth they have attached a travel tag to their big toe instead of to their luggage.

They noted when people are in the extreme mode with a stress that their garden (or park) is not growing or fairing in all the quality that has been put into it, they will sooner or later seek a horticulturist to help them find out why the garden isn't up to its best look of beauty. In those regions where the garden is everything, they will spend large amounts of money and time to get the desired result whether it is for a backyard or an acre or two off the side of a castle.

 They in their speech pointed to those people who with the extreme desire had extreme stress for the garden to live. And in their choosing that, the work had to have been yesterday. Those with such demands live on the edge mostly without God. To live in His presence, you know and understand what is required for the Holy Spirit teaches us the way to go or walk.

In the estimation of these women, these people required some more teaching on what they were striving to attain, and one such point appeared as to the talking according to plants and soils needed for such plants, say like roses. As you know you never put a new rose plant into soil that has grown roses before. You create that “new bed” with new soil to receive the new rose plant. Another point they pointed to was that I noticed that they talk about over watering any plants. Just because the plant appears yellow does not mean it means more water, but that it requires more nutrients and many times it is magnesium for a plant if it is outdoors! The excessive watering had washed the important minerals out of the soil.

Now this may seem odd to you but as a born again believer we too can know what God plants in us a new heart for His kingdom. And how is that new soil planned and laid out? For one is planned through His Son Jesus Christ! John 14:1-6 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And where I go you know and the way you know.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

 

We go through the Son Jesus and into that place where we grow! We go into God’s word and find what is ours. We find that we have an inheritance. We find that we are seated in heavenly places. And we know that we have an opponent. So too, these people who regarded their gardens should have known their opponents and what those enemies could inflict to their newly planted roses and bulbs. You would have to know what to put in your soil and what to leave out of your soil. Flaws can appear within the soil of our garden and within the soil of our hearts. Our children gave me this beautiful Begonia for a gift last month and I have been reading on it. I would certainly want to make it thrive instead of putting a tag on it for death!

 

 Only truth and life come through Jesus Christ. God has desires for us all through our lifetime. We are to understand that He has thoughts for us: Psalm 139:15-18  Amp. Bible   My frame was not hidden from You when I was being formed in secret [and] intricately & curiously wrought [as if embroidered with various colors] in the depths of earth [ a region of darkness & mystery]. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance, & in Your book all the days [ of my life] were written before ever they took shape, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious & weighty also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! [Psalm 40:5] 18 If I could count them, they would be more in number than the sand. When I awoke, [could I count to the end] I would still be with You.  

He thinks about us and knows our ways and many times you and I may not want to  follow His ways: Ps. 139:1-8   Amp. BibleO LORD, you have searched me [thoroughly ] & have known me. 2 You know my down-sitting and my uprising; You understand my thought afar off.  3 You sift & search out my path & my lying down, & You are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue [still un-muttered], but, behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

But we should want to do nothing else but follow Him. Yes, our Father knows what will tumble out of our mouths if we speak long enough. And if we have kept watched to fill our heart with His truths, then we grow like that beautiful English garden. We grow where we have all the right nutrients we require, not overly watered with just water, but watered with His truth so that nutrients are received when they are given.

 

But many times, you and I can tell Him that we do not like the message, or we do not like the messenger. But in truth, God’s word is His word and it is to be received in that of which it was sent: by His Son, through His blood of sacrifice and His love. God wants to lead us, but do we pay attention to His leading?

God sent His Son that we would live for Him: 1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 NKJV 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. (self-control) 7 for those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drink at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober,  putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.  9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11 Therefore comfort each other & edify one another, just as you also are doing.                       

Just like in a garden, where all the plants stand tall in their beauty, we too belong in that kingdom of God. We are planted deep into His richness. We are planted in His holiness and righteousness. We stand to glorify Him. We belong to the day and not darkness! Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness.

We who are those who have salvation through Jesus Christ; are to the sensitive to the Lord and be alert and be prepared! We are to be prepared as His children, the sons of God.  We were saved in the past, in the present we are being sanctified by the Holy Spirit’s work in us and through us and we share in the Lord’s final triumph…the glorification.

We have participation in the kingdom of God:1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 NKJV 10 You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; 11 as you know how we exhorted and comforted and charged everyone of you , as a father does his own children, 12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

 

God our Father is the Vinedresser. John 15: 1 Amplified Bible I am the True Vine and My Father is the Vinedresser. 2 Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away ( trims off, takes away); and he cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit. 3 You are cleansed and pruned already, because of the word which I have given you [ the teachings I have discussed with you]. 4 Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me and I will live in you ]just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in ( being vitally united to the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

Work in shaping trees for growth and within gardens takes many hours of sweat and time! A garden takes time to plan and a time to work the ground of soil to receive what is planted in it. Jeremiah 17:5-9 NIV 5 this what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD. 6 He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. 7 “But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has not worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” 9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

 

Our trust is to be in God the Lord. Our heart is to understand that what we receive will come from Him and will we see it if our heart is captive to the flesh of man?  No, we will not see it.

Have you seen those salt fields in countries like Italy or here in the United States? Most of those places that produce salt have few people living there! People have to move there and build to work that salt into a product for consumers in other countries.  But it is still a salty land. It only produces more salt in a dry place till rain or some type of moisture covers it.

 

So there is a great difference between the salt land and bearing fruit. For a plant described in the salt land is a bush.  And if you know or have family who have lived in a desert region, you can know that in that desert that a tree without water, pruning or nutrients will stay or remain according to the size of a bush. But if this same bush had water, pruning and nutrients, it could possibly grow into a great big tree. To care for a tree in any region requires someone to give the proper care. And our Father desires to give us care and comfort as we grow and become a tree for His glory. That we can dig in deeply for our roots to hold to His kingdom that has come. That you and I can remain green during any drought and we can bear fruit with no worries in sight! Psalm 1:3 He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.  Psalm 92:12 the righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing to declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

No salt flats for us! We are to live in a glorious place God planned. It is neither dusty or dry land filled with disappointment but it is a place of God’s kingdom where faith is alive in Him and where His love comforts us.

 

 Deuteronomy 33:26-27, 29  NKJV “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides the heavens to help you, and in His excellency on the clouds. 27 The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, ‘Destroy!” 29 Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help and the sword of your majesty! Your enemies shall submit to you; and you shall tread down their high places.

 The God Almighty of Genesis to Revelation is the God of the present and the ages to come. He is security and He is prosperity! For we are to enjoy Him, His protection as our shield and our sword, He is the God of glory, power and strength!

It is great that your plants have tags on them to tell you what their name is, so when you take them home, you might discover what sun and soil they prefer best to live and thrive! If you have tags for travel, make sure you have them on the right bags to note that place you are traveling to whether for work or fun so that they arrive when you do!

 But if you are choosing to tag yourself because something did not work out for you in the workplace, or someone passed and you expected them to live and not die or you had high hopes for a word given last year and as of yet still has to be fulfilled, it is time to take note of Your God and His love for you. For He loves each of us. He is the God of Comfort, and He will hear us in that pain of anguish, but we are to see and know His love that comforts that heart that is broken with sadness.

 We are reminded in 2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit & belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast & hold the traditions which you were taught whether by word or our epistle. 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, & our God and Father, who has loved us & given us everlasting consolation & good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word & work.

God had you on His mind! He chose you, set you apart for purpose. He chose you before the foundation of the world for salvation and through sanctification, you feast on that which is revealed by the Holy Spirit and the word of God. Hold fast to that belief in His doctrine: it originates in salvation, by divine choice, brought by divine power…for in this divine message the will of God is perfected in His divine glory.   No tags here, but only benefits in our God the Lord: Psalm 106:4-5 NKJV Remember me, O LORD, with the favor You have toward Your people. O h, visit me with Your salvation, 5 that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, that I may glory with Your inheritance.    

Our inheritance in the Lord came through repentance of sin to receive salvation. In Him we have peace with God and integrity with people. We stand against that which conflicts against His truth and we prevail valiantly. Psalm 60:12….Amen!

Having Fruit Hurts

John 15:2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit he takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

A branch in Christ Jesus will be pruned to produce more fruit! So where does all this production of good fruit come from? James give us detail: James 1:2-4  NKJV 2  My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3  knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience 4  But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Trials in our lives should produce growth. If you have pruned a tree, you do it to force  its growth into that perfect form. It is the same with God toward us, He will prune what is fruitless or that which does not abide in Him.

 The fruit we produce depends on our outlook on life. If our trust is in the Lord, then we embrace God’s working in our lives. But if you are one who does not have trust in Him, then most likely you would fall into a pity party of one: ME!

Each of us is to evaluate our actions, any sin present and repent fast. But we also pray and see His plan for us. A test and many trials can present anger at times within our emotions. We wonder why us and when will this be over! Walking with God is hearing Him speak truth into those situations. For us, we must adhere to His speaking and rid our minds of stupid thinking. You cannot allow doubt to germinate within your thinking. If we do, then we have that mixed thought process going on!

Fruit will help us to endure!

James 1:2-3 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. Or your faith produces endurance!

This is mirrored in Hebrews 12:2.  In Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus endured the cross "for the joy that was set before Him." He thought nothing of the pain and shame because of the joy He knew would follow His suffering. And His suffering was severe to the point of death.

 In our previous blog “ Battlefields have No Benches”….there is a war to defend the gospel. There are no park benches to rest on but only the battle before you. Trials can show up,  and we may desire to go on vacation to vacate our life in that moment, but that would be no help or solution when we must be speaking God’s words back to Him! Standing by faith in Him, we can see the positive appear on the horizon of our walk with Him. If we look close enough, we can see that the “thing” presented to us as a trial come to an end shortly. We are not to quit or give up.

 Facing trials or tribulations will mark your move toward actually fighting for life, fighting for truth, fighting to remain in that which Jesus  caused for us to live in. With God’s Spirit in us, we hold on with a grip, on that hope in Jesus. It is a walking through that fruit is produced to endure and it appears as the peace of mind. It is in that peace God hears us. It is in peace that He holds us….we are not to fear, but believe and hold onto to His truth….that we will not die, but live and declare the works of God.

For me, I know first-hand when a sentence is given that is not of  life. And when you hold onto Jesus, you hold to life in Him and His truth and that God knows my frame and He is aware of the situation. From that we can gain a love for life that is present in preparation of meals when you could not stand long enough to do them while being in the trial. You find an emotion of tears, even years later when you are thankful to spend time with loved ones, to eat a meal together and just laugh at the devil.

For me, I became aware of the great power given us to stand against the enemy. I became aware to use my tongue for God’s glory and not be afraid of the enemy. My God is greater than any enemy including satan. From this trial I had seen a process work through my life to appreciate others and to being more sympathetic to their plight. Many I have seen these last few years are those who need not a hand out but a hand up! They require a Savior: Christ the Lord.

Prayer is always important. And it is good to pray together with your spouse over your family, community and even nation. But prayer also involves that closeness of God. Remember when Jesus was crucified that He appeared on the road to Emmaus. (Luke 24:15) He joined Himself to the two men with anguish of heart and brought life and light to them! We must remember why we are here and what lies ahead. For in that we are refined in fire to remove impurities.

John 20:19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

Locked up because of the Jews voicing threats against those who were with Jesus, these men found Jesus came near to them. He walked through shut up doors and stood in their midst.

I believe today, this word is for those who feel God cannot reach them past those shut doors. But HE can! He is walking today into those places in your midst where He is seen and He is heard. No man can stop what God is doing in this nation, and within people! If they try, they will find themselves cancelled by Him!

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been proved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."

If you find that things like a virus cause you to act in a way that is nothing like Jesus consider why you might be falling prey to that disgruntled attitude. Consider that this place will not motivate for better fruit.

All the claiming one may do in asking forgiveness but continuing to pursue hypocritical behavior is not bringing people into a relationship with God. We must realize that bad behavior will not influence anyone to cross the threshold of a place of worship and really see God!

I do not like the saying: "we are all in this together, because in all honesty we are not". Some people during covid time are not saved! They neither know Jesus nor do they care about Him. But we as the believer certainly embrace that we are not alone in the struggle against self. You know the Me, Myself and I focus.

In the Message Bible, Paul writes in Romans 7:14-15 “I’m full of myself—after all, I’ve spent a long time in sin’s prison. What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. So if I can’t be trusted to figure out what is best for myself and then do it, it becomes obvious that God’s command is necessary.”

Paul knew and so do we that if we do not commit and submit wholly to the Lord, we will have no victory.

We desire God’s closeness but we are full of ourselves and there is not much room left for God. Yes, we must be pruned and bear new fruit! We must be healed from the inside out. In John 15:16, Jesus tells his disciples, “I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit and that your fruit should remain”. A grapevine must first be planted and tended to by a gardener. The gardener prunes the areas that won’t be productive to allow good fruit to grow. 

 John writes at the beginning of John 15 that God is like the gardener. Verse 1: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the Vine-dresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.  He must come into our lives and He must trim away the sin that is keeping us from growing fruit. The issue is, I don’t want to be trimmed because pruning is painful. Yes, this must mean that I must recognize and deal with that sin.  Fruit is the evidence that I am allowing God to do the pruning. Consistent trimming takes years to produce good fruit. In Galatians 5:19-26 Paul compares the fruit of living in the flesh to living in the Spirit (connected to the vine).

Where we have not allowed God to prune, the branches will appear as the withered. They can be seen as: selfishness, anger, and hatred. But when I allow myself to be pruned by the Vine-dresser, then my selfishness will be removed, and I will grow in my love for others. Anger and fear will be cut away to bring abundant joy, no matter the circumstance. Hatred for another will be pruned to allow for more patience.   We must have endurance to thrive in this hour! We are to remain in God’s word for that continued growth. And that word when it is applied in our lives, will be seen in the pruning that is occurring as we allow God to speak to us through His Word and see change come to us.

Jesus refers to himself as the “vine” in John 15. Jesus is also the Word of God. John 1:1 NKJV says “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” Jesus tells his disciples in John 15:6 that their relationship with him is based on His words remaining in them. If believers do not open the Bible on a regular basis to read the words that keep us connected to the Vine, we will not produce fruit. John writes that those branches who do not remain connected to the vine of His Word, will wither, and will be collected and burned.

Having fruit hurts. When we take a look at our branches, are they revealing good fruit or they are revealing the withered away branches! Proverbs 31:31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.  No sluggards here, we are to produce fruit that points to a good character and those works that proclaim God!

Allowing God to prune away sin is a part of that faith journey. It takes a lot of forgiving others and ourselves when we fail. But God never fails. And when our trust, and that faith that is in Him, He will show us how to walk, to behave in that way that is seen as a person surrendered in His wisdom, for humility and the fear of the Lord are prerequisites for gaining wisdom and honor now! Lord have Your way in our lives and go ahead and snip!
