Painful Thorns

What a difference 50 years makes in one's life!

What was held in disgust years ago, people do it so willingly today. Was seeing a teaching on what the swimsuits looked like in the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. Everyone had on clothes, but was meant for swimming. Each dressed, the man in his slacks and the woman in a two piece suit covering from the neck to passed the knees. Today it is anything goes. You have a display of nudity in all forms on the beaches today. Sad to say, many have fallen into the culture theme of being free in sin. I remember the Rockettes of yesteryear. Those dancers in NYC were in the Macy's parade over Thanksgiving. What appeared were very thin women. What once looked like healthy dancers, with an amount of muscle on the legs and arms, today they are skin and bone ....Was wondering if it had to do with people losing weight just to be thin. What would Jesus think today?

Jesus was the “meek” man. He humbled Himself before the Father to walk in His steps regarding His image and the foundation of the work to be set forever in His word.

In God's perspective, people who humble themselves, are these people who are strong, while from a human perspective, it depends on whom they want to impress. You can see that in the story of those who impressed David’s son instead of staying alongside David as the King! ( of Ahithophel’s advice to the King seen in 2 Samuel 16, 17, and what occurs in 18) Ahithophel commits suicide out of bitterness in 2 Samuel 17:23.

At the point of Grace, we choose whom we will serve. We are told over and over to forgive those who have done something against us. Yes, and that can occur daily in this world we live in today!

But Humility is so important that God gave Paul some help to make sure that he would stay humble: 2 Corinthians 12:6-10 NKJV 6 For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to or hears from me. 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Yet, this “thorn” in the flesh is a person. We know this because we see it in the Old Testament: Ezekiel 28:22- 24 NKJV “Behold, I am against you, O Sidon; I will be glorified in your midst; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I executed judgments in her and am hallowed in her. For I will send pestilence upon her and blood in her streets; the wounded shall be judge in her midst by the sword against her on every side; then they shall know that I am the LORD. 24 “And there shall not longer be a pricking brier or a “painful thorn for the house of Israel from among all who around them, who despise them. Then they shall know that I am the LORD GOD.”

From this verse 24, we see that insults of the nations are compared to prickly briers and painful thorns. Numbers 33:55 ‘But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. 56 Moreover it shall be that I will do to you as I thought to do to them.’”

In this year, we certainly have the irritants of painful thorns. You expect truth and get that which relates to honoring the evil and to destroy the good!

From the time of Jesus, His walk was about the persistent heart giving the kingdom of God that had come: the Gospel! Jesus was effective in that He laid down His life and could take it up again because He spoke it into being. Paul saw the power of Jesus’ walk and proved to be an effective servant of God.

So humility has a dominant thrust in it where appears a willingness to submit to God, to what is His truth and remain in it to give to others. These two willingly submit to giving their whole life into God’s glory. So what would be the level of our humble hearts? Ephesians 4:3 …endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Unity with each begins in the unity each of us has with God. And it is within that unity with God you can keep unity with others.

So in returning to Ahithophel we find a most fascinating character. In 2 Samuel 15: 12 Ahithophel was a trusted counselor to King David. He was also a member of his cabinet. The King relied on Ahithophel’s advise as if he spoke from God himself seen 2 Samuel 16:23.

Ah yes, but things changed for the “bad”. It was David’s son Absalom that led a rebellion against him. and in this rebellion Ahithophel betrayed David by joining with rebellious Abasalom. AND we can know the king’s heart on this matter when David recounts those painful laments of heart when a trusted Ahithophel betrayed him in Psalm 41:8-9 and Psalm 55:12-15.

Psalm 55:12-16 NKJV For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; then I could hide from him. 13 but it was you, a man my equal, My companion and my acquaintance. 14 We took sweet counsel together and walked to the house of God in the throng. 15 Let death seize them; let them do down alive into hell, for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them. 16 As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me.

AHITHOPHEL: whose name means “foolishness” certainly proved to be the foolish man and it was indicated in his first meeting with Absalom in 2 Samuel 15:12. Yes the rebellion was on! And some parts of historical record give a light on what occurred to make Ahithophel do what he did to the king! In historic background, Ahithophel was the father Eliam found in 1 Chronicles 3:5. And then the grandfather of Bathsheba, so this was a personal ordeal for the man who knew the king and had worked side by side with him. Yes, David as the king with loose morals at this time defiled another man’s wife. Instead of being on the front lines in battle with his men, David stayed in the palace and then had his eye on the lovely Bathsheba bathing.  So in this corrupted action on David’s part, Ahithophel’s sense of wrong crowded his thinking.

Yes, David was king but was to be the honorable and here he slipped terribly in the acts of murder of Bathsheba's husband Uriah the Hittite. What Ahithophel proposed in his pursuit of David is given in 2 Samuel 17:1…… Ahithophel gives Absalom advice: “Now let me choose twelve thousand men and I will arise and pursue David tonight. 2 I will come upon him while he is weary and weak and make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee and I will strike the king.

It was a personal hostility that Ahithophel held for David. 1 Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world. 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Through the Gospel, revelation of truth is power. And in the operation of God’s power through this gospel is victory over sin and death. But to the Jews, this very message of Christ crucified signaled weakness and proved Jesus the false Messiah. The Jews looked for signs instead of in Messiah’s power ( Isaiah 35; 61)  The Jews stumbled in this truth. And of course to the Gentile mind-set, they held no messianic expectations. No, they held only what a deity should be like, so the message of Christ crucified was foolishness to them.

Yes, David did try to hide his corrupted acts. He treated this young woman terribly and her husband even worse. He wanted her to sleep with her own husband to hide his dilemma her creating a child within her womb. But the honorable Uriah would not do that while the men he fought with would not have the same thing available to them. David proceeds with another act of betrayal to place Uriah on the front line of the battle. Yes, death would occur to this young man.

Ahithophel most likely burned in his thinking that became a hate with a force behind it! So Absalom set to take David’s throne, and he, Ahithophel, must have thought some kind of good must have turned towards him in favor, but David prayed in 2 Samuel 15:31 “O LORD I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”  Remember David had already prayed in Psalm 55!

In Ahithophel’s  counsel to Absalom to immediately attack David before he can regroup, a change occurs in a dramatic way.  A loyal friend to David, Hushai pretends to have turned to Absalom’s side and urges him to delay an attack. It was God causing Absalom to heed Husahi’s advice and Ahithophel realizes a fatal mistake. In bitterness, he knows that God will not punish David now. No, because David repented and prayed for God’s hand on the outcome of his own stupid behavior.

In despair it was Ahithophel who would die:  “He put his house in order and then hanged himself (2 Sam 17:23). In prayer, David displayed anguish. He wrote of betrayal in Psalm 55:13-14.  A seemingly spiritual companion betrayed David in verse 13: “ but it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my acquaintance”.

2 Samuel 15:31 Then someone told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, “O LORD I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

Humility goes hand in hand with meekness. Jesus the meek had a restraint being held in the “kind, the gentle, and the sensitive to others’ needs. This is done in truth, with no lying and stealing. They are those who will agree with that which is God’s word. They will not argue God’s word, neither will they insist on their own way in it. People could approach Jesus! They could speak with Him and He would return that which was life to them. He was and is the meek but He is not the “weak”! Like Jesus we are to be the firm and the uncompromising regarding following truth. And what is revealed to us is that Jesus did not overwhelm others who were aligned against Him.

God’s grace has been poured out to us! People who know their Lord and God are the blessed and it shows! We too can enjoy this abundance of grace. We should let people go and give them over to God.

Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” 15 “But if you do not forgive me their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Jesus hung on a Cross at Calvary and forgave the one who hung there with Him. Jesus told the man that he would be with Him in Paradise. The other went his way into hell. It was one who held onto Jesus the Son of God, the Savior of the world. Painful thorns indeed appear in our walk. But we keep our eyes on Jesus! You can see insanity in the world, but peace is found in the Lord alone!

Two Dangers to the fellowship with God

1 John 2:15-28 NKJV 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world----the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life----is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 18 Little children, it is the last hour and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.

1.       2 dangers to fellowship with God, loving the world/loving the things in the world; The world’s foundation is flesh: seen in the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes,/the pride of life ;The world is passing away. It is “dead”.

2.       Antichrists: they are anti-Jesus! 1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

Made manifest are those who are anti- Jesus: Deuteronomy 13:13 Corrupt men have gone out from among you and enticed the inhabitants of their city, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods”---which you have not known.”

Reminded of Matthew 24:24 For false-christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

2 Thessalonians 2:9 the coming of the lawless one is according to the working of satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deceptions among those who perish because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Can you imagine those who will not receive the love of Christ?

From verse 9 of 2 Thessalonians 2….people are giving the announcements of aliens from other planets….God did not create other beings from other planets. He would given it in His word! No, liars are growing in multitudes to renounce Christ! There are those who just make up stories to rally unbelievers into something so out there, they fail to see, fail to know Jesus and die in the lie!

Scriptures given to us is that those who will perish is those of have not received the love and the truth, they have put no faith in Jesus Christ: they did not receive the love of the truth! Be discerning: understand Satan can imitate signs and wonders. Through the Holy Spirit, you and I discern what is truth in God and what is the lie in Satan!

1 John 2: 24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us----eternal life. 26 These things I have written concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, & you do not need that anyone teach you, but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 28 And now, little children, abide in Him that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

1.       From V. 24-27 it is 2 things that will keep and protect the readers from falling victim to the seductive teachings of heretics. Constantly abiding in the truth concerning Christ, which they had received from the apostles, Gospel truth given to keep hearing to abide in the Father and the Son! And point two, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, whose illuminating power will enable us to distinguish truth from error! To receive spiritual knowledge under the guidance of the Holy Spirit is to know truth in a way that human instruction cannot provide. Holy Spirit in our lives moves us into the empowering life God intended for us to live.

2.       This text is not an argument against the ministry of teaching; Romans 12:7…… let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching. Teaching as to the revealed truth of God’s words regardless of any public office. If you are not living in the gift God granted you as to a teacher, you sin. If you do not live in the gifting as to being a giver you sin. Remember Jesus cursed the fig tree: He cursed that which had beautiful leaves and no fruit. If we do not live in obedience to what He has for us, it is sin! If you living just to sing and God called you as a prophet, you sin against Him! ( it is like your mom giving you a toothbrush to brush your teeth, but you only wet the brush and never put the paste on to go inside your mouth to clean the teeth.)

From 1 John 2:15-17 the word world is given: The world does not refer to the physical creation but only to that sphere under the control of evil operating due to the dominion of satan.  1 John 4:4 You are of God, little children and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. he who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. He who Knows God hears us…to understand God!

Growth is always seen in the presence of love. Loves is as a test of the Christian life we read in 1 John 2:7-11. The love source in God should be revealed in us as we move from salvation at the Cross to reach our neighbor. That love will always manifest as sacrificial in attitude and in action like it did in Jesus! Our lifestyle must represent Jesus in that attitude that is of sacrifice for another. Holy Spirit has come to enable us to love others!  We are to remain steadfast to the gospel through faith and the love of God.

From 1 John 2:10-11 NKJV 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

1.       Walks in darkness: John 12:35 Then Jesus said to them, “a little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become the sons of light. John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

2.       Has blinded his eyes: John 12:40 He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they should see with their eyes, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them.  ; 2 Corinthians 3:14 …but their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remain had remained un-lifted in the reading of the Old Testament, but now the veil is taken away in Christ. ;  2 Corinthians 4:4 ;  …whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, let the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

As to Growth in the Lord: Little children will always find out that there is more to salvation, as to growth in the Lord. Romans 8:1 there is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus……who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit for the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.  From a young one in infancy with God, one becomes the young adult; they encounter that challenge, their faith is tested and they can know victory :For we walk by faith, not by sight.  “Fatherhood” is that place designated and is given to saints who have come to know God as friend.

Jesus spoke this in Matthew 18:2-5 NKJV Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.

Only the humble is devoid of arrogance and self-exaltation; Humility is one willingly submitted to God and His will. Child likeness is character Jesus pointed to: as to being a servant at heart. As the child depends on his or her Father , so too we are to depend as a child does ; In the kingdom of God there is no dominance over others. The dominion or authority of the kingdom of God is for victorious, fruitful living and for the overthrow of hellish powers by those who want to dominate by a single  rule of hate!

Those of the fatherhood in Christ, grow in joy and peace daily. They encourage others in the faith. They reside in that peaceful state with joy in their heart and willingly reach out to others to make the Gospel love known! 1 Thessalonians 3:11 Now may our God and Father Himself and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you. 12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you, 13 so that He may establish your hearts  blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul the apostle wrote in a letter to the Philippians that he was thanking God for the remembrance of the believers always in every prayer of his making request for them with joy.  Philippians 1:4……Paul saw his fatherhood in the Father and how it related back to the church by having a joy to pray for others of the faith! As the “fatherhood” begins to disciple spiritual offspring through the loving progress of reproducing that walk they have had there are always new levels in the spiritual growth. Spiritual growth is not speaking the culture of their day, but of the truth in Jesus Christ where character is the image of God Himself!

In the relationship with God our Father, we walk by faith with Him. We speak words that He has given us to speak. We live as we saw Jesus walk His life out on earth. It will always come back to if we have a walk with the Lord. For living godly, the personal growth is seen both to the spiritual life and the sensitivity to the social relationships around us. Anything without these two function is dead because if you are inclined to talk your way to heaven instead of walk your way there, then you will be noted as never leaving earth to see the glory of Him Who created you in your mother’s womb. Have a heart of the Lord, and have a heart for those God sees and to whom He defends. Amen.

Side Effects

How many people know that they must read the label before using any product especially those with medical implications? How many actually read that label when say getting a prescription from a doctor, but in truth they end up throwing the Must READ page in the drawer to be read either later, tomorrow or never!

Said person then goes and takes the medication with a faith in the Doctor and never learning to read nor understand what that product might contain for ill health say as to worsening symptoms or even death! Then some would say , “well he is the doctor” and I would agree if he has all his degrees and credentials, but I am the other adult in the room and not a child to speak about such things. Thinking as the man that he is practicing medicine is practicing on you and you really need to know if he is really qualified. This appears just like the sports enthusiast who wants to be named to the NBA or named to the roster of team like the Texas Rangers as their number one pitcher! Each are practicing and each can come into a place they have not known in to regard of health of the body and the injury that can occur to it! But going full on into any treatment and not knowing its effects is foolishness!

In watching any commercial for pharmaceuticals, those requiring drugs for ailments with such names you have never heard of, but only find that said drug from an pharmaceutical can have twenty harmful effects or more and one of them is that which includes death.

But God’s word is to life and not to death. God’s word is health to us: Proverbs 4:20-27 NKJV  My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. 24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you. 25 Let your eyes look straight head, and your eyelids look right before you. 26 Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. 27 Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil.

Health is what is good to maintain life. Putting God’s word in our hearts helps us to maintain that good health. His Word directs us into His thoughts and His ways! Have been watching the Chosen series again as the second season has started up again. And in watching these, I am reminded of Jesus ministering to all the lame, maimed and blind who came to see Him. In the series, they write of the disciples of those staying close by but not actually standing in close perimeter to Jesus as He ministers life to each person. In one specific one we saw over the weekend was where the disciples had to keep watch over those standing in line to see Jesus and it is no different today to the fighting and the bickering with people wanting something from Jesus and wanting to get to Him quickly. Yet, Jesus set forth the Father’s plan for healing and wholeness for the body to those seeking relief! We receive from Him knowing He is the Healer! It should never be about Him giving for the sake of giving but because our trust is Him to do what He said He would do!

So back to that medicine you are required to take, and have you ever given thought to the truth of the health in God’s word or the prosperity that is available by adhering to His truth? How much better His word heals than a man-made product does!

What is so awesome about God and what He has given us in the Bible, is that it has the Beginning in God, it has the middle, that is today and it has Future and that is with Jesus. No other religion has the God at the END……..where life continues with the LORD! Unless you have a living God, you have nothing! Unless our thoughts and ways come from God, we end up going around the mountain with no exit signs to get off from the monotony of the world. Monotony is hearing and doing the same thing expecting a different  result! I think that is why I love the series Chosen because it shows people wanting to learn the word of God and to speak it, to see it used and see the power of it now. We are to minister life to the world and not join it!

Ephesians 6:10-18 NKJV  10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

WE put on the divine nature of God to stand against the enemy who can and will use others to terrorize. We put on God’s character: His wisdom,  His will, His thoughts, His justice, His faithfulness, His righteousness, knowing He is all bountiful, all sufficient Who is revealed in Jesus. He who makes bitter experiences sweet being set apart to His plan and purpose for good, it is He who knew us from our mother’s womb.  He and His peace carries a peace which transcends all understanding, and garrisons and mounts guard over our heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 6:14 Stand, therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints---19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly as I ought to speak.

From verse 15 having shod our feet with gospel of peace, Jesus washed the disciples feet, He had already given them God’s word and continued to speak it to them. But He washed their feet, found in John 13:3-17. A concrete action, set in God, set in servant-hood, with a humble heart. Jesus is God and Jesus served as the servant with humility and much grace. Side effects would be in the grace to spread a testimony in the love of the Lord. Jesus gave instruction to them but He also gave them examples in love.

I think of David who would become king in the land of Israel. He the shepherd boy would take down a military might. He went to the valley where the giant stood, but David looked further into God his father. He, David gave accounts of his hours with the God of Israel. He wrote the book of Psalms and he gave prayers to his feet to run. He spoke and brought light to those in darkness.  Prayers to converse with God whether he was in dire straits, or far from his home, he found the words that spoke to God and God answered them.

He wrote in Psalm 25:9 The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way. In this Psalm David was giving a plea for deliverance from his enemies and forgiveness. Whatever problems King David had within his heart, His nation would have troubles too. He mentions of deliverance from bondage's for Israel but we also know spiritual bondage's can appear too. What effects the world can have on anyone is to know this: fear is expecting the devil to move but faith is expecting the Lord. I heard many people speaking that they were waiting for the other shoe to drop, that is: they were expecting the devils tactics!

The devil certainly can be an architect for evil since he is the father of evil. Known also as an angel of light…..found in 2 Corinthians 11:14. He was found early on in Cain, son of Adam. Then the lineage continued to the Tower of Babel where many were set against God. But the line of Seth was godly, set for God to run the course for good. Washed feet is free from that which might attach to our walk with God. Washed feet is kept for God’s business and not for the enemy: the devil!

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is our Way in this day, this week, this month, this year and forever. He is truth that delivers us from bondage's so that we can minister life to the world, not be one with the world.

In Psalm 25:12-15 David wrote this: Who is the man that fears the LORD? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. 13 He himself shall dwell in prosperity ( meaning goodness), and His descendants shall inherit the earth. 14 The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him. 15 My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

He teaches in the way He chooses. There is spiritual prosperity. Truth is found in the mercy of God. His secret counsel is with close friendships, not one weekly meeting with the crowd. David, when bringing food to his brothers and those in the military facing Goliath, David looked beyond Goliath, he looked beyond the harsh words his eldest brother Eliab spoke to him that day. A harsh word can be spoken by someone close to you so that you are reminded to what side you are on! And one can choose the harmful effects of answering its call or you can refuse them and stay with God for the purpose set in your run with Him.

Some side effects of drugs: is the risk of having a stroke, profuse bleeding, can cause problems with surgery due to a medical or dental procedure, cannot be taken with pain meds as for headaches or other. Can cause joint pain, swelling that dizzy feeling or feeling weak. May cause swelling in feet and face. To some, the possibility of paralysis, numbness, tingling and oh yes, that problem it gives to your liver and kidneys. Yikes!

But with God’s word, going into your heart and being spoken out of your mouth, you have chosen life and not death. You have chosen your kidneys and liver to be strong! It is choosing the Healer. It is choosing life with the effects of our growth in the Lord. It is the place in Him where our souls find rest in Him alone for our hope comes from HIM.

We, Your people , Father, clothe ourselves as Your own picked representatives and Your chosen ones, who are purified and holy and well-beloved by You  are putting on the behavior that is merciful, and tenderhearted. In gentleness and patience, we have the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper. We are fore bearing with each other and if having any grievance with one another, are readily active to pardon each other. As You Lord, have freely forgiven us, so do we also forgive.

The Word spoken, alive and active has its home in our hearts.  It is Jesus Who sits on the throne of our hearts and that word dwells in us in all richness , as we teach, admonish, and train each other in all insight, intelligence and wisdom in spiritual songs, making melody to You, Father, with Your grace in their hearts.

Side Effects of moving away from God are those with darkness, agony with the heat of hell breathing out destructive forces. It will appear as a reality: the place of outer darkness, a place of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. A place created not for people but for the devil and his angels. ( Matthew 25:41)

Side Effects of the world are seen daily who choose to follow a sinful life, who persists in siding with the flesh but siding with God is love and being full of unspeakable joy. It is healing and health, strength and courage, it knowing when to stay silent and then when to speak. It is knowing by discernment the move of God! 2022 is not the year to be deceived by satan. He as light can make you think about the light of God, but he will force one or more of his own designs into the pot and when deceived by them, one can choose to follow him without any arm-twisting. But 2022 is the year for the believer with no side effects, those of the Lord’s where they move in the way of truth and grace. We arrive on the wings of Holy Spirit’s power to be in right places at right times for the plan of God. May we not be committed to that which causes side effects to death, but that which is to life and see with the light that shines at noonday in Jesus name. Amen.

According to the POWER

Ephesians 3:14 -21 NKJV 14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man 17 that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-----19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. It is all about the power of God to live in this hour!

John 1:3 All things we made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions, principalities or powers. All thing were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Even satan was created by God! Satan an instrument for praise and still the angel got it wrong. Still the power of God is available to them who believe in Jesus: the Way, truth and life!   In the counsel of His will, God’s eternal and unchangeable plan is revealed. He is strong in purpose and He is the ground, the foundation of truth. It is He Who has gathered the fragmented and the alienated and brought us into His kingdom purpose!

In car or truck engineering, parts are made. There is the engine, the transmission, a carburetor and what style you prefer, whether a car or truck, an SUV or a utility truck, power is looked upon for making a difference whether you want to get there on time or driving a 4 cylinder when you do not care what time you arrive!

I have written on this before about some seven years ago and thought to add it in your reading today. In my youth, muscle cars were supreme. The word we heard a lot around the school grounds or in the town was when there was going to be race to test those muscle cars. In my hearing, I heard PINKS all OUT! So anyone who had a really supped up car and willing to stand against another had to have some power under the hood and with the edge to win! Now that pink sheet would be given  over by owner of said car if they lost the race to the other racer. It would be a vehicle paid for and have a clear title.

On arriving at their destination for the race, the drivers would raise their hoods to show the amount of work, and much money they had under that hood. The sight would reveal an engine enthusiast when chrome was revealed! Next the engine sound would be heard. Some thought this exhilarating, others thought it unwise indeed!  PINKS all Out meant they willing to give up that car if they lost, but that was not in their thinking at all. They knew the work they put into that car, how many hours of late night work on it and how much a loss could cause them that of having no ride anywhere!

Do we ever think of the power we have when we put in God’s word in our heart, speak it out with authority knowing we have all of heaven backing us up by that word. His word will take us places we have never been and to do things we have never done! Just ask me!

Human will and the whole inner man’s life is involved in the renewal. If God is our Father: as Truth applies, then we are born again unto His kingdom.  Cultivating that relationship that is spiritual connects with the inner man:   Ephesians 3:16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man. 17 that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith; that you being rooted and grounded in love.

Connecting to the Holy Spirit by our inner man, we become mighty by His power, rooted in the kingdom of God, grounded on a strong foundation and to comprehend it by an experience, not simply just to understand by intellect!

Back in those days of street racing: one had to know how his car would run in a race. The person, male or female, would do a  lot of study and most likely would have had some machine shop class in their high school curriculum. There would have been a lot of reading on engines, transmissions, cylinders, carburetor, spark plugs, tires, and some wheel coverings and special paint!

Now when a child, I knew only 8 -cylinders amounted to power and the right way to go! And you could see that power in a vehicle when going over passes within steep mountainous regions going either east or west.  Now a cylinder for some who do not know, is a vital part of the engine. It’s chamber where fuel is combusted and power is generated. The cylinder consists of a piston and two halves at the top. It has an inlet and an exhaust valves. It is the piston which moves up and down, and its reciprocation motion generates power that moves your vehicle on the straight and narrow and up a mountainous region and over to see the plains of the mid-west!

So too, we are a vessel, that which can hold the power of God in our heart. Within this, the piston moves up and down. It is seen in us as in relation to the Father. It is in this relationship we gain strength and power. And we do not smell like gasoline as the engine runs. No, we have the scent of our Lord.

Our Lord has the scent of Lebanon. According to Hosea 14:4-7......4 "I will heal their backsliding,  I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him. 5 I will be like the dew to Israel;  He shall grow like the lily,  And lengthen his roots like Lebanon. 6 His branches shall spread;  His beauty shall be like an olive tree,  And his fragrance like Lebanon. 7 Those who dwell under his shadow shall return;  They shall be revived like grain,  And grow like a vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon.   NKJV

Yes, we abide under the Shadow of the Almighty!

Song 4:9-12 9 You have ravished my heart,  My sister, my spouse;  You have ravished my heart  With one look of your eyes,  With one link of your necklace. 10 How fair is your love,  My sister, my spouse!  How much better than wine is your love,  And the scent of your perfumes Than all spices!

11 Your lips, O my spouse,  Drip as the honeycomb;  Honey and milk are under your tongue;  And the fragrance of your garments  Is like the fragrance of Lebanon.  NKJV

If the Lord really is our spouse, and we spend time with Him, then our scent should be what we just read. Our garments are the fragrance of Lebanon too! We would give a scent of beauty and nice to be around.

Psalm 45:8-9 8 All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad. 9 Kings' daughters are among Your honorable women;  At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.  NKJV  We stand in a good place. We stand in a place of honor among the honorable women and yes, men too!

IN that place where a fragrance of praise is presented to the ONE who saves, it is a place of fragrance where the oil of the olive is crushed and the scent of life of Jesus is in it.  In that scent we release His scent to others. It is not the scent of gasoline, nor is it the shiny chrome on your truck or what is under that hood of it, but what is under our hood, that which resides in our heart! Where we abide will reveal either a scent of life or of death.

2 Corinthians 2: 10-17 … 10 Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, 11 lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices. 12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, & a door was opened to me by the Lord, 13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia. 14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, & through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved & among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, & to the other the aroma of life leading to life.& who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

We find this in 1 Thessalonians 1:8-10 Amplified Bible 8 For not only has the Word concerning and from the Lord resounded forth from you unmistakably in Macedonia and Achaia, but everywhere the report has gone forth of your faith in God [ of leaning of your whole personality on Him in complete trust and confidence in His power, wisdom and goodness]. So we [find that we] never need to tell people anything [further about it].

As a vessel charged up, our sound should be louder and clearer than  a 4-barrel carburetor or even in that new fuel injected system. Our sound is clear and strong in the words of truth and no lies!

Here in 1 Thessalonians 1: 9-10 Amplified Bible, it is Paul the Apostle who had a concern about the Thessalonians’ sexual practices. Within his proclamation of a gospel required people to turn from idols and to wait expectantly for God’s son from heaven. He ministered gently like a nurse but ministered by concern like a father for his children.  1 Thessalonians 9 For they themselves volunteer testimony concerning us, telling what an entrance we had among you, and how you turned to God from [your] idols] to serve a God Who is alive and true and genuine. 10 And [how you] look forward to and await the coming of His Son from heaven, Whom He raised from the dead----Jesus, Who personally rescues and delivers us out of and from the wrath [bringing punishment] which is coming [upon the impenitent] and draws us to Himself [investing us with all the privileges and rewards of the new life in Christ the Messiah].

To turn and be alive and genuine in God is to volunteer our testimony to others. It is to be a privilege to shine for Jesus, with a glow of our face and faith we speak. To sound like the Father is paramount and to give truth to the one in need. By the Holy Spirit, we have power. His willing and humble heart teaches us. And through that work and growth, we take a path, a road least traveled but much poop on it. Our sound should be heard that we would have the Gospel in our hearts and mouths, that sounds like a hum of an engine revved up in God and to move fast for His glory.

We ought to have a cherry exterior not of the world, but of love that spreads out like a river wherever we walk and live. And our scent will be that of the Lord where He leads us in triumph!

We are not the weary, but we check under the hood, to remind ourselves to check the thought processes of our heart, for God will certainly know our thoughts and see if there is any wicked way in us. Amen! What power is in you? And will we see you revealing what is in your heart for His glory and to His praise? The race is on, and we have a prepared vessel for honor to be with Him forever!
