Health Wealth

Have you ever wondered how some people out live their children or grandchildren? Have you noticed those who seem to be agile and strong in their seventies and eighties and then you come upon those who are only in their fifties and sixties and they seem to creak, releasing weird sounds from  their bodies and they move like a snail on the ground?

Psalm 90: 10-12 The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow. For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.  11 Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

In generations past ( some 60 years), maturity was found among the seventeen to twenty-one year range of age. People lived in harder environments, they lived in harsh weather without special coverings and protection. They traveled great distances to get from the place of their birth to the place they would have land, to plant, to work for a harvest and to build in that place. The life they expected, where they were responsible people to grow their food, make a place as a home of safety for family, to ward off any adversity from wild animals to outlaws in a vast wilderness, with no trains, planes or automobiles.

Those becoming of age, either educated or taught the life of a farmer or what some call too, the blue collar worker regarded a trade that would cater the farming industry as well as to the community in need of repairs requiring engine repair, welding relating to fencing for cattle or any livestock or to those like the garbage collector, firefighters, and police service. Men or women at or considered of age to work had capability to be responsible and those living in the early days of television, each had a maturity without television, that onslaught of commercials or television programs or movies that teach drinking parties, good times, fun in the sun with an ale or beer, sporting events, to take one into the night to knows what, and then you see those tropical beaches, revealing a tropical breezes, dark tans and the people there are not you!

What I know as my generation, we grew up knowing God in our school with prayer. We knew God at home, at work and within family get-togethers. We grew up knowing how to plant seeds to grow food and see our parents and grand-parents canned suchs food to keep a family well fed in the cold of winter to stay healthy indeed!  It is a known truth that television came on the scene in the mid-fifties of the last century.

It is also a known truth that commercials declared you could see the U.S. A. in your new Chevrolet for America was asking you to come and call on America. By the mid-sixties there were soap operas that sold more porn than soap. By the seventies, it was roller skating parties, boogie nights, pet rocks, and Atari games that were coveted. And it was at this time we saw little of the growing food for home and family, little family time together, unless you have four wheels on each foot, and speed cream in those bearings within your wheels on fancy skates to move you faster down the roller rink floor. In the seventies, words heard a lot were oil embargoes, OPEC, and many like us saw long-lines at the gas stations and people on strike: like the meat butchers and the milk industry.

THE Eighties brought greater party times: for there were now floating floors to skate on as the concrete floors would wear you down. You had musicians with hair longer than yours. ( and looked much nicer than our own hair) Most of their songs made no sense unless as a youth you had watched many soaps like that world was turning, secret storms, and days of our lives operas. At this time a greater defiance appeared in many. That is when one took an ugly way and tried to assassinate the President of the United States. Movies depicting going back to fix something to somehow correct yesterday that was affecting today,  to those movies of living far away removed places like on other planets and yes Death star..  What was wrong with the planet we live on? The songs sung pointed to being physical,  and yes, with Betty Davis eyes, and the importance of every breath you take!

The eighties seen in 1982  presented "The Computer"  named Time Magazine's Man of the Year. Microsoft released "Word" their word processing program. ( now how can a computer be a man of the year, I ask you that)

1984 Band Aid records "Do They Know It's Christmas?" a charity single to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. Are they not still suffering famine in that country?

1986 The Chernobyl nuclear reactor explodes in the USSR..( and people cannot live there today) ( latest report we heard over the winter was that soldiers went there on a military patrol and got radiation poisoning! Yikes!

1988 Two years after the Challenger Disaster, NASA's Space Shuttle program resumes..

1989 The Berlin Wall is torn down at the end of the Cold War.

The eighties marked the start of the computer AGE!

In the nineties we saw the Gulf War begin. The nineties have been viewed as that of peace, prosperity and order. But we know of novels which came to light that produced the illusion and work of witchcraft.  It was the first three released to be read in America.

The quality of television was raved about as the “improved”: but it was far and away from the things of God. It was about me, me and me! New channels added to T.V. those premiere channels which add a hefty amount to the price of cable and the such, well they included soft-core porn too and then suddenly they went further! NO fences now, the ambition was a brilliant idea to ushering that cable thing and bring in more of the world right to your lazy comfort chair.

THE digital age, of course, got fully underway in the ’90s. At the beginning of the decade almost none of us had heard of the web!  In the nineties my thoughts were not on browsers, search engines,  nor that of digital cell phone networks!  By the end of the decade we had them all.  Yes, the end of the nineties decade marked people had cell phones, but not smart-phones!

Such technology at your fingertips indeed yet  it mostly heaped distress and work on you to the greater degree. It brings the things of the world into your hearing and you’re seeing. It does not show the area of responsibility to work and live with that attitude.

In the generation we live in today, the mature come to being the responsible around thirty or so years not as in the earlier generations where the normal was 17-21 years of age some 65-75 years ago. Many graduating from college return to live at home with mom and dad and remain footloose and fancy free to live as a child. They are fashionable extroverts, the carefree daredevils or the clueless pleasure seeker or junkies referring to what degree they have evolved to in that pleasure seeking. Their highlights include a late morning rise at noon, make it out of the door by late afternoon and seek the night life where everything is hidden in the cover of dark. Tomorrow you will hear of their sudden death from taking something they thought it was medicine like Oxycodone but it was not. It was a drug dressed like Oxycodone and yes dressed in something appearing as death. It is a look alike but not the same created to help in pain and the such, no this is inserting a death pill that is created  by those who desire to put death in people. The devil has done a work indeed.

Yes, the times have changed. People have changed their attitudes and minds for a culture and left God out of it. They choose night over day, they choose sleep over work and at night they choose play over a good night’s rest. They dress different and choose to find drugs dressed as they are dressed. They choose to lose themselves in something that is fake much like our news today.

Back to Psalm 90: 10-12 The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow. For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.  11 Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. 12 so teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

By length of strength they are eighty years: Message Bible We live for seventy years of so ( with luck we might make it to eighty), and what do we have to show for it? Trouble. Toil and trouble and a marker in the graveyard. Who can make such anger against the very ones who fear you?

Written by Moses, he sought to pray. He understands God is always in His role as Creator and Almighty Father.  Colossians 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And he is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

In this Psalm man relates to man’s frailty. He uses grass, the favorite of O.T, metaphor for that of mankind or human life, he speaks to God’s awareness. He speaks of His omniscience.

Acts 15:18 — "Known to God from all eternity are all His works."

Romans 11:33 — Oh the depth of His riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

1 John 3:20 — For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

Hebrews 4:13 — And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Romans 2:16 — God will judge the secret things of men by Jesus Christ, according to [Paul's] gospel.

Then he gets to what we see as the number of years in verse 10. And we must know that this applies to what dietary restrictions and purity life one would live out. But we have seen that even what seems to be the best at the time can be bad to the temporal body in a length of time. ( Like finding out that mercury fillings in teeth from the mid twentieth century can kill you later in life) That is why being born again and allowing Holy Spirit to lead us, we will not end up in the place of not only the bad but also the ugly place. No Holy Spirit leads us to the wealthy place in the Lord!

If you have a generation not actually starting to be mature till their thirties in this day, they only have a half life to live out. The psalmist asked the Lord to teach us to take advantage of short lives. And in my estimation, I considered my life short when I was eighteen. Always hearing my father to speak to remember that life was short and we had to make the most of every moment of it God had given us. So the Lord has given us Jesus, and He wisdom is made unto us to become alive unto the kingdom of God. It is spiritual and active. It is alive unto God and His power and might. It is life God meant for us.

But sad to write, only a remnant will truly know the fullness of this. The Bible speaks of that remnant. We can be directed by God’s word, see Him now, always recognizing His voice, His walk and leading. But for others, they will know the voice of mom or dad, know when to leave the house for party city and return in the dark of night to start over again, unless they make the trip for that pill or that next drag on a smoke, for they find that pill dressed for death. And if death pill finds its way into their mouth to end the life that truly God had purposed for victory to live for valor, then how sad one did not live for the Lord and to His praise. How sad so many have died not knowing what true living was. How sad to never know the loving God who sent His Son to save us: those who would put their trust in Him!

Health Wealth: Philippians 4:6-9 MKJV  6  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

We need to pay careful attention to this sequence of instructions because it contains much that can help us attain both good spiritual and physical health.

In the past fifty years, men have come to understand how deteriorating and destructive stress is to life. Paul's counsel, written nearly two thousand years ago, tells us not to be driven by anxiety or fearfulness about life.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus admonishes us to "take no anxious thought." The stress of anxiety is wearying, setting us up for multiple afflictions. If we really "see" God, we should know that He is with us. Should we not feel great assurance in His promise never to allow us to be tempted above what we can bear? Faith is a prime solution for anxiety.

Urged by Paul , we are to let God know our needs in every matter of life. As Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, He already knows our needs, but He wants us to recognize, evaluate, and communicate them to Him, accompanied by thoughtful expressions of thanksgiving for what He has already given, as well as His promises of blessings in the future. Do we see what this process achieves? It disciplines us to think within certain well-defined parameters that have Him and His way at the center of our life and our focus.

Paul then asserts that one benefit of this is tranquility of mind, respite from the restlessness so common to the carnal mind, which is constantly searching for new stimulation to satisfy its insatiable longings. This peace of God will stand guard over our minds like a sentinel, allowing us to meet and cope with the problems of life.

In the peace of God, we see God’s way for coping with the problems of life. Our minds occupied with God and with the things God speaks as the true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Through this discipline, we program our minds with the right things; what goes into the mind determines what comes out in words, actions, and attitudes.

If we would only stay out of America’s dump ground found in television, you know that  "garbage in, garbage out, we should adhere to the wholesome in, wholesome out". Jesus' statement, "For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34). We could take this further and say that out of the abundance of the heart the mind thinks and feels, and the body acts.

Are we putting our best foot toward a health wealth or a garbage holding lot for that which culture dictates? As what Paul defines what is wholesome specifically as what they had learned, received, heard, and seen in him, as he was indirectly telling them to eat Jesus Christ because he, Paul, as His apostle to the Gentiles, was His agent to them and their teacher of His way of life.

May we stay clear of that which steals, kills and destroys. Our Father desires to give us a long life indeed.

God the Father Will Honor

I love Psalm 27. The activity is tremendous. I always relate it back to the stories my parents told me of my great-grandparents and how they shaped a wilderness into a home for family, a place of work and a place to rest! Many people today love that they can just buy a home and move in. People are happy to shop for furniture and appliances they might desire and just spend money rather than to carve out timbers for walls in a log home. I remember stories of family moving to make a homestead in a barren land. They moved to find a place, to work with their hands and to make a difference in a new land. They had heart for the unknown and it was experienced in life both on the plains and in the southwest.

What applies here is a heart’s desire! The heart wants what it wants. And does not our heart have the light of Christ in it? In thinking of David, we are told he had a heart for God. 1 Samuel 16: 7 “Do not look at his appearance, or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” Then.... V. 12 And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one.”

Only with a hearing heart will we discern.  From the book of Proverbs, we find in chapter 3, that the Lord by wisdom founded the earth; and by understanding He established the heavens; 20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up, and clouds drop down the dew.

Okay, God’s wisdom is His tool. It is His possession and He uses it in wonderful ways. His knowledge will break up the depths of our heart that must be removed to actually hear Him speak.  And when He speaks, He keeps our foot from being caught. We walk safely in His way. We do not stumble. We are not afraid and when we lie down at night our sleep is sweet. We are not to be afraid of sudden terror nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be our confidence, And will keep our foot from being caught.

Hearing God is paramount for living. Going into that "new land", God gives specific instruction. And we are to discern the difference of what is God and what is of the world. The “simple”, considered the empty-headed is void of good sense and he goes his own way daily. But those who have heard God, received His salvation has found God in the new, for the old life is gone. The Lord has  prepared a place for us…and we must know what it looks like and how to operate there!

Proverbs 7:4-12 Amplified Bible 4 Say to skillful & godly Wisdom, You are my sister, & regard understanding or insight as your intimate friend--- 5 That they may keep you from the loose woman,

The KJV speaks of the loose as the “strange”…2114…”zoor”…profane……from the adventuress who flatters with & makes smooth her words. 6 For at the window of my house I looked out through my lattice. 7 & among the simple (empty-headed & empty-hearted ones, I perceived (discerned) among the youths a young man ( a son) void of good sense.  …8 Sauntering ( without hurry or effort) through the street near the [loose woman’s] corner; and he went the way to her house. 9 In the twilight, in the evening; night black & dense was falling [over the man’s life]. 10& Behold, there met him a woman, dressed as harlot & sly & cunning (sly) of heart. 11 she is turbulent & willful; her feet stay not in her house; 12 Now in the streets, now in the marketplaces, she sets her ambush at every corner.

Those with a guarded heart have their own agenda. When the man or woman is not committed to the wisdom of God, then they are “meat” for him who is ready for any commotion, any noise and finding mostly those with no sense who speak openly in arrogance and only opinions.  This person has a “religion” but speaks lies with flattery. This person who sets ambushes for others is the one on the hunt for anyone vulnerable to their speech, loud restless movement, including that of suggestive clothing and scents for appeal. The world always holds out great “things” but in them is only emptiness, vanity and no life.

Jesus came to bring light and salvation. And in the darkness He, the Light would bring strength to people’s lives. Jesus came to awaken the dead out of a bad existence. Jesus brought the "new" and we can have them when willing.

In Psalm 27 there is a rescue from danger. Light came to dispel that darkness. And one thing dispelled would be him who devours the innocent without cause.

Psalm 27:1-14  NKJV  The LORD is my light and salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked came against me to eat (devour) up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army may encamp against me my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident. 4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set my upon a rock. 6 And now my heard shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle, I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. 7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me and answer me. 8 When You said, “seek My face,” My heart said to you, “Your face, LORD I will seek.” 9 Do not hide Your face from me; do not turn Your servant away in anger, You have been my help; do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take care of me. 11 Teach me Your way, O LORD and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. 12 Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence. 13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say on the LORD!

In the verses of 4-6 we find the Lord has deployed a camp around us. In this is the presence of the Lord. It is God’s presence where fellowship is seen. And in that is the man or woman secure. To abide in His presence and to hear Him speak truth ….will keep us secure in His arms. I know of people who have moved from church to church to find the safe church and it is the building not on the main highway but hidden in the back of a neighborhood, behind some big trees and next to a pasture.  To them, this is their security. But here the security is different! Church attendance might be a 100 percent, but how about the heart issue. Has one surrendered to be faithful to the Lord, doing what He said do but also to avoid associations with such people that be murderous to your living for God? The secure will only be secure in God alone and not by any structure or group of people!

We are to be around the Lord, stand in His presence, led by His love for us that He has a place prepared for us and it certainly comes by obeying Him! Can we be distinguished from those who are the worthless, that is, they follow the world and have no hearing for God, nor do they have any thought for His holiness nor His truth. They have no place for Him as they had no place for Jesus in Bethlehem on the night of His birth.

The Innkeeper had much room for those paying to get rooms for the night who came to pay their taxes, but had no room for the birth of a child. Oh so true, even to the individual who goes through the rigorous routine of that schedule and not experience the suddenly from God who has a new life, a new way of living from the old existence!

Are the malicious witnesses hanging close to your doorway? Do they stand close to feel their breath on your face or next to your ear?  David certainly knew about this and he would be king. But David had confidence in the Lord and he withstood the threats of those out of vengeance against him. He would encounter a king who would sit ready to through a spear through him. He would find those who would hate him because he took the throne. Those who loved Saul and wanted his reign to continue will bring out those who desire to sling mud and belittle him who would be kind. Bribes in David’s time is no different than we have seen in the last few years of this nation. Anything to do with bribes will corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely is well documented in the history of world government.

David had a heart’s desire for God and it is made clear as we read of him and the history of his family. David kept the firing burning in prayer to God and he would wait on His word to move him. Many today move on a word from their neighbor or the barista at the coffee shop. But truly only God should move us!

Matthew 15: 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts (reasoning's, disputing & designs) such as murder, adultery, sexual vice, theft, false witnessing, slander & irreverent speech.  20 These are what make a man unclean & defile [him]; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him unclean or defile [him]. Living righteously comes from the heart: keeps us from irreverent speech. It comes through faith in Jesus that is guarded by God’s love. Righteous actions appear in the born again believer: that new life reborn in Christ Jesus.

Again the heart wants something, and if it is not filled with God, then it is filled with the world.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.  Prov. 18:2 amplified Bible….. A [self-confident] fool has no delight in understanding but only in revealing his personal opinions & himself.  No opinions please: God’s thoughts only

NKJV of Proverbs 18:2 reads: a fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart.  A fool….has no excitement to have God’s understanding. They regard opinions, they regard the caprice, the arguments of their own held opinion…living by impulse! Have you seen someone just leave work to go do something else? What about the man or woman who is leading a group of people and in the middle of the meeting leave to go fishing?

Prov. 9: 6 Leave off, simple ones [forsake the foolish & simpleminded] & live! & walk in the way of insight & understanding.  We do not walk by their ways or their speaking….ruled by God’s Word.

We must live in God’s wisdom. We must forsake the foolish ones and their foolish ways. Proverbs 14:33-34   Amp. Bible 33 Wisdom rests [silently] in the mind and heart of him who has understanding, but that which is in the inward part of [self-confident] fools is made known. 34 Uprightness & right standing with God (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area & relation) elevate a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

God loves those who listen and obey Him. He lifts our head above our enemies. He brings us to honor. He brings us to joyful shouts in whatever situation or trial may be occurring in our lives. He is for us and will not forsake us. Psalm 3:3 But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.

Our significance is not found in any position, nor in another person, place or thing. It is found only in our relationship with the Father who planned for us! David found an honor in worshiping the Father in the wilderness. He found the strength to face the lion and the bear to protect the sheep in his care. In his beginning with God, he found favor because of a right heart for God. And finding that is everything to having a life filled with the strength of God, to rule and reign in His peace and not be found wanting or as the fool!

Now it is your turn. Will you choose to worship the Lord in His presence and experience the humility of that honor when God lifts you to be in the position He destined you for? It is your move and will you move for His glory and to His plan?

Sandy Situations

Righteous actions will produce godly fruit. This is why Jesus says, "You will know them by their fruits" Matthew 7:16: You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn-bushes or figs from thistles?

The fruits of a person's life will show what a person believes, producing in him a resolution that his actions are God-ordered and he dare not turn aside or change them.  Moses was sent by God to the Hebrew nation for a deliverance. And he did take that step forward but not in God’s timing. Exodus 2:11-15 NKJV Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12 So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, “Why are you striking your companion?” 14 Then he said, “Who made you a prince and judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” So Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!” 15 When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.

In that reading of the Exodus, you find Moses jumping the gun so to speak and actually killing a man and then hiding him in the desert sand. Yeah, this dead Egyptian would not stay covered up, no matter how much sand Moses put upon that dead person! Moses leaves quickly from that place that he has known as home among the Egyptians for years.

We know of Moses first years among the Egyptians that he was cared for by his own mother when taken in by Pharaoh’s daughter. His life was spared! And his mother had daily opportunities to give him detail of the God they served! The time with his own mother most likely covered about 35 years. He was raised in royalty, and he rode out on the finest chariots. He would have had the best of the best in clothing, education and friends. A trip down the Nile would prove a vessel worthy to carry Pharaoh’s own family.

As a member of Pharaoh’s family, he would have been instructed in many subjects like that of astronomy, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, music, and art.  Whatever he learned, God knew well that this young man’s steps had been ordered to walk for the purpose God set for him.

Moses did find his “real” position when he spent time in the wilderness. It was many events that occurred to change the man’s life for the true and not the false! Moses would be refined in the wilderness, where his character would shine for God. His humility would help others to see the way of life in God and to be an influence.

By killing the Egyptian, he only proved he had anger issues against a group of people. When he would go through that “wilderness process” that anger would be changed to confidence in God who would handle the situation: sand or no sand!

And here in the wilderness, Moses would meet God face to face: Acts 7:30-32 NKJV And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord (Jesus) appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai. 31 When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight; and as he drew near to observe, the voice of the Lord came to him, 32 saying, “ I am the God of your fathers----the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’”  And Moses trembled and dared not look.

The fugitive from Pharaoh’s court and an exile in a faraway place of family, Moses had come home to God. Submitting to God’s plan, he is set apart for that good thing in God, and walking those Hebrews through a desert would take someone who put time in that desert! And would you consider this would be forty years ahead of Moses, Aaron and those who would survive that wilderness adventure!

Oppression will move people! You could see that in the book of Acts where Stephen talks about the Hebrews under that condemnation.  Moses born to Jewish parents, reared in a luxury of Egyptian education had to run for his life and in the process found he got to the place where he could be a part of God’s plan for the Hebrew nation. God had affirmed Moses to lead the captives out of Egypt and it was going to take some confidence in God, a voice and a faithful step forward with every command that God gave him to fulfill.

When Moses tried to relieve the oppression of the Israelite's in his own strength forty years before, nothing happened. He ran to do the work of the Lord, but God was not in it.

I wonder how many run to do something and God is not in it! What Moses did in his first 40 years proved futile in his own strength. We can learn new subjects: like learn a new language, maybe take up drafting or architectural design or even become a first responder as a firefighter, or police officer. Still, what you have in you must align with God and His purpose for you in His kingdom. We have all heard of some doing a great work, a person noble and pure in heart but all their efforts fell short or completely ineffective because God was not in it with them!

You can hear many individuals and couples who take off for the far coasts of foreign countries only to find that noble and pure heart aged them in their minds, their bodies and wore a hole in their pocketbook or savings account!

Moses had a “fear of the Lord”. You can see it in everything he speaks to with Pharaoh. Moses took God into account in every action! Moses would encounter the very kingdom he was raised in. He would come back to those leading and the Pharaoh he would meet with, would be the one who had a plague of the heart. Pharaoh served many gods. His heart was set on creatures on the earth that had everything to do with the great Nile River.

Moses was called and then sent to free the Hebrews from the Egyptian slavery:

Exodus 5:2…2 Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go." NIV    Looking at the face off of Moses and Aaron with Pharaoh, we find the plagues were presented against the those who dealt in idolatry. Egypt had many gods !

Exodus and Chapter 7:  the first plague was water turned to blood.

Exodus 7:14-18 NKJV  15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning, when he goes out to the water, and you shall stand by the river's bank to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent you shall take in your hand. 16 And you shall say to him, 'The LORD God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, "Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness"; but indeed, until now you would not hear! 17 Thus says the LORD: "By this you shall know that I am the LORD. Behold, I will strike the waters which are in the river with the rod that is in my hand, and they shall be turned to blood. 18 And the fish that are in the river shall die, the river shall stink, and the Egyptians will loathe to drink the water of the river." ' "

 a.    the Nile became as blood

b.    fish died and the river smelled terrible.

c.    the people had no drinkable water or useable water.

d.   The Egyptian false god offended……probably Hapi (the spirit of the Nile, (Khnum , guardian of the Nile)

Announcements were made only in plagues, one and two, four and five, seven and eight to Pharaoh. But three, six and nine came without warning.

In the reading of Exodus we see each plague was directed against those things that the Egyptians worshiped.

In the plague 2 of the frogs, the marshes of the Nile have a great amount that fill that area, but even in this, the frogs were found in the fields, courtyards, and even in the bedrooms! One frog hopping away from you might be cute, but many hopping toward you, in your home and one your bed is no way cute nor is it funny!

In the plague 6 of the boils,…this was aimed at the commercial and artistic wealth of Egypt at that time. The first started at the river and now industry was a source of trouble for the Egyptians.

The ninth plague was darkness………experiencing the darkness………that wraps itself around you……..the commentaries write that they thought it was one of the fiercest of sandstorms in that area ……Yes, have you seen those Haboobs ( those violent dust storms like in the Middle East, Africa and even Arizonia and New Mexico)?

Plague 10 was the death of the firstborn……of man and beast…….again this is related to idol worship.

THE PLAGUES OF THE HEART…………where do we stand in all of this? Do we harden our hearts when God refers to correcting us?

Because like Moses, he had to come under God’s leadership in his character, his humility and influence. Moses had started out like he was in charge, took another man and killed him.

Here we see Pharaoh had a hardened heart. He wanted things done his way. Exodus 5:2…2 Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go." NIV

Pharaoh was considered to be the embodiment of the god Horus, king of the gods of the earth. The fortified city of which he called home, was also home to a great garrison of soldiers and charioteers. Even their horses were the Arabian, that was bred for endurance in harsh dry climates like the Egyptian desert!

But even in all the wealth seen in this great fortress, from the wines to special desserts, and fabulous dressing gowns, diseases were rampant and many people died. No incantations could be done……..there was no cure! Was it possible that their idolatry gave way to a plague of their heart?

For every step Moses took side by side with God and Aaron, Moses held onto to every word God spoke. He obeyed everything given him. Even in the wilderness way, Moses faith was in God. Found in Exodus 13:17 Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt?” 18 So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt. 19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under a solemn oath, saying, “God will surely visit you and you shall carry up my bones from here with you.” 20 So they took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. 21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

A man of the wilderness, who most likely knew this way too, but did not quarrel over it with God, but went as he and Aaron were told. They all went up in orderly ranks, not as fleeing people, like Moses had once done, but now in order, a people in a fighting formation, they are led in a direction where there is the lesser armed resistance.

In Exodus 14, it is God who delivered the Hebrew nation. It was Pharaoh who was afraid Israel would turn and fight them. But in truth, it was something greater that would occur. God the Lord would fight for Israel and fight against Egypt for them. It is seen in Exodus 14:13-14, Exodus 14:14, 25 that they would see the works of God in their favor. The Egyptians would know God as Yahweh! Exodus 4:4, 7:3-5, Exodus 14:4, and Exodus 14:15-18.

What started out as a sandy situation turned after many decades of learning to follow. Being ready to see God and know when He is present sets us in a motion of knowing God is real, He is powerful and His is to “be feared”.  For without a fear of the Lord everything falls apart. YOU may have the Holy Spirit in your life, but without fearing God the Lord, He will not be there in that wisdom and understanding, that council and might, nor that knowledge because the fear of the Lord is absent from us!

I like what Oswald Chambers wrote............ Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest.. If we have never had the experience of taking our commonplace religious shoes off our commonplace religious feet, and getting rid of all the undue familiarity with which we approach God, it is questionable whether we have ever stood in His Presence. The people who are flippant and familiar are those who have never yet been introduced to Jesus Christ. After the amazing delight and liberty of realizing what Jesus Christ does, comes the impenetrable darkness of realizing Who He is.

Yes, there is that darkness, it is realizing Him the majesty of heaven, the victorious One sent from heaven and returned for the glory of God the Father. What I have learned from Moses' life is that you will have to stand with God and that which you will most likely stand against will be where you were raised, believe for and with whom you most likely befriended, but in the end, it is to be all God or it is all of absolute nothing!

May each of us be God’s instruments that will develop a community that lives right, where we communicate His love to others being submitted to His plan in that love, respect and honor to Him first and then to others. Setting priorities in place to be followers of Jesus, we choose to align ourselves with His Word that speaks and directs us to the Kingdom of God that is endless, blessed, and active. Now thanks be to YOU, Father Who always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus. Amen.
