Withstanding the Onslaught of the Enemy

Now if you are a woman, you can probably relate to this kind of stress where you cry with sorrow. You experience a grief into your soul that is so deep that a good cry is required. And we can experience a deep pain of grief many times during a lifetime whether you are a woman or a man. I remember talking with my own mother of those times that she hurt so deeply that the cry seemed to be endless for her.

Psalm 31: 9-13  Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life.

Certainly reading Psalm 31…verses sink in our heart and thoughts of those who have pleas to reach the Lord. There is that unwarranted persecution and yes trouble. And does not trouble follow the righteous? It appears like a dog after a tasty bone, does it not?

Jesus mentions this in John 17:14-15 I have given them Your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.

As the righteous we are set apart for ministry. Each in regard to their calling even a married woman raising four children. That is a calling! The married man to watch over his home and his place of work. He keeps watch by prayer and hearing the Lord’s voice. Yes, each of these is in their walk to keeping the focus of God’s plan in view to hear the will of the Lord’s voice.

In regard to Psalm 31, verse 9 reads: have mercy on me, O LORD for I am in trouble; my eye wastes away with grief, Yes, my soul and my body! For many people who have trouble in their marriage can face heartache. They try reaching for that which flickered with a light years ago but somehow and somewhere, someone forgot to keep the flame in the blazing mode of brilliance. It always takes two people to make a marriage work. With that in mind, we should first have a relationship with God and then the person you see as your spouse, right?

I heard people speak many times of their thoughts on how they kept their fire burnings, but in their speaking you find that one’s job took their extra effort and stayed at the work place more than they were at home to keep a fire even to burn. Another spoke how they never seemed to be a part of the marriage team. Their voice never seemed to be heard in whatever the conversation was being engaged. Still another gave voice that her husband did not hear her ever! I had wondered how two people could get to that first conversation at the first meeting of one another and then have no conversation after that. Monopolizing a whole conversation could be hard for anyone to bear no matter who you are but then to marry that person seemed like a miraculous thing indeed to me!  So whatever the circumstance for man or woman, or even a youth, anything broken is a serious matter. And certainly heartache is serious. BUT Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted. He came to bind up wounds and to deliver us into His peace and healing! And to converse about that is to contact God first and foremost, to hear Him and then to do what He instructs!

People are in a grief today of coronavirus! They have experienced grief in lockdowns, shutdowns, closed signs, wearing masks to disguise and even cover their smile which welcomes that hidden and muffled “hello” to being social distanced because of a fear.  They find themselves being hounded by "Karens" who yell for police and 911 but some places have defunded their police departments, so who are you going to call?

I thought on this weeks ago when school would have been starting about all those children who would not be back in public schools. They would not be back among their peers. I thought how many young people would only see another like them from a screen on their computer, being miles apart and never to have that close and personal opportunity to say hello and have a conversation with them of how they enjoyed the summer or how they had “no summer!” People require conversation! We were never meant to be alone! God showed us that in the Garden of Eden.

I always think of God sending angels to announce the birth of Jesus. He sent angels to declare before shepherds in a field who kept a watch over a flock of sheep with no flood lights, no roadways, but only pathways, with no cell phones, but only that occasional conversation between those shepherds passing as they work in the fields on that special night! I thought of there not being a folding chair to get comfortable by a fire to warm the bones of one who had already put in work for a day now to work all night. But something occurred. Something changed the mundane to the best of all things ever. God sent a notice.....announced something had happened. He engaged mankind!

We were in conversation with our daughter and son-in-law a couple of weeks ago. And she was talking of songs she remembered from her early years at school and especially those she remembered in her times at the skating center. Between the two of them, our daughter and son-in-law, they could think of a number of songs, but one I keep going back to is “It’s a Heartache” by Bonnie Tyler. Then she had hits like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding out for a Hero”.  Now this lady had some heart issues and you can tell by the words written and sang about what they were! Now the songs were special when skating with your spouse or even your child in that family time and a family evening together, but I also thought especially since Thanksgiving Day of this year for those who spent time giving thanks to God that 2020 is almost over. I know many could not record that song so milllions could hear it, but I thought of those who spent the day giving thanks they are alive to see another year coming.  I thought of those who spent time singing about the goodness of God!

Yes, the year 2020 has brought many to their knees, some for senseless things, but others in regard to loved ones dying, in regard to working from home, no toilet paper to be found, and bread and milk not available to a family with small children.  There were mandates, and demands and yes, people have gone from crying to emotional pain and even to the point of a physical pain. Loss was mentioned by many who have an anchor chair in the news department, and many who just had loose tongues this year and we should watch what comes out of our mouths. We should not be those who run around with loose tongues giving opinions and no truth.

I thought of people using the word “privileged” and those who love God, the righteous are the privileged indeed. It tells of the virtuous, the capable, the person who is the godly and brings about profit to her (or his) family.

Proverbs 31:10 Who can find the virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13 She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar. 15 She also rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants. 16 She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms. 18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. 19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. 20 She extends her hand to the poor, yes she reaches out her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. 22 She makes tapestry for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and tells them and supplies sashes for the merchants. 25 Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “ Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” 30 charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her praise own works praise her in the gates.

To begin: the first nine verses of Proverbs 31 deals with what is called symbolically that Lady Wisdom. But the rest of Proverbs 31 deals with the real woman who is flesh and blood. Every man and woman can learn from this proverb of wisdom that regards the individual and the family at large!

Verse 10: who can find the virtuous wife? Who can find that person who has virtue? Are we looking for someone who is virtuous?

The apostle Paul commands us to think on things which are virtuous: Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of a good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy---meditate on these things.

The virtuous begins with thoughts in the mind. Our actions give away to what our thought process has been. The apostle Paul gives us guidance in what our minds should hold so that our character and conduct will line up with what God expects in the righteous man or woman.

We cannot allow our minds to dwell upon evil and expect to live virtuously before God. "Evil company corrupts good habits" (1 Corinthians 15:33). If our mind is in the gutter, we cannot live a virtuous life. Christians can never escape all of the negative influences of sin living on the earth, but we have a choice of whom we will serve in our hearts and minds. We must not continue to dwell on the sin that surrounds us as we interact with people of the world. We can never allow ourselves to gleefully entertain the pleasures of unrighteousness in our minds (2 Thessalonians. 2:11-12; and  2 Tim. 3:1-4). To do so is sin ( Matt. 5:27-30).

From verse 15-17, the thought is of diligence to her or him who gives tremendous strength to earn money for the family but also to earn extra to buy that vineyard. It takes work to remove those stones to plant vines to grow grapes. It takes some muscle to work to dig that winepress and then build that tower to protect  that vineyard once it is flourishing.

It is the Proverbs 31 person who laughs at the days to come as seen in verse 25. Those who can laugh at the days to come, laugh in seeing the approach of 2021, will be those secure in knowing Who holds the future. That person is the one who will rejoice because God is in the midst of every part of their life. Good or bad, the person is equipped with the word of God, equipped with His power and ready for the days ahead with a smile on the face and an expectancy within the heart that God is with them because they have chosen His way of life!

You may be the Psalm 31 person where your strength fails because of affliction and your bones grow weak as seen in verse 10, but Proverbs 31 person is the strong and the healthy. Proverbs 31 tells us a “woman” who is strong and healthy, that she is one set about to do work vigorously and that her arms are strong for her tasks! She is one who has strength like the young person but she also has honor like the older person. When she gives instruction she is giving it by the wisdom of God and the love of Him in her heart. That person is always one known as the vigilant and the diligent. She is no sluggard!

With the present day of social media in the lives of many, the life of a woman or even a man can revert back to a high school popularity contest. And if you stay around those who act more like teenagers than the grown and the mature, then it is most certainly the time to find the right place to spend that quality moment away from those who will only make you feel socially inferior as you can see from this given in Psalm 31:11-13: Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends— those who see me on the street flee from me. I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. For I hear many whispering, “Terror on every side!” They conspire against me and plot to take my life.

Men and women should not be about pleasing everyone around them. Jesus did not do that. Focus on Jesus, read to find understanding that discerns your walk, and discerns the right from the wrong! Yes, we can read Proverbs 31 as “The MOST Popular”, yes, everyone is tweeting about them, but struggle is found when those things appear suddenly and that same person is not capable of handling all the hoopla of such great attention so quickly. They get off on a tangent and may not find that narrow path back in safety! Your spouse may not match up to the respectable, but certainly God’s word works and when we apply it to our lives and those of our spouse we can see changes come. Some may be slow, but others can come sooner when we continue to activate His word of truth now, today in this moment for them! Your children may not be serving God and in this hour of coronavirus, they may be still trying to find where they need to live to have a job to go to and perform every day. May we continue to speak as David did: Psalm 31NKJV  “But as for me, I trust in you, LORD; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who persecute me.”

I remember when a lady sent this Psalm 31 to me. Her name Juliana C. She was over all those who ministered in Jail Ministry for Snohomish County, Washington. She sent it to both men and women alike and it was to encourage those who spent the time in prayer, study and meditation to see God’s purpose on earth in the jails to reach those incarcerated by bad behavior. It was about seeing God’s goodness to those who needed a Savior.

She encouraged me, when things were not so wonderful for me, not so great for me, but she showed me how to keep the focus and it has become the fruitful field. That was some sixteen years ago, but I always think of my times are in His hands! And I have continually spoke as the Lord speaks and to believe with a heart of faith, His will is done on earth as it is in heaven….coronavirus or no coronavirus,….God is sufficient!

The Psalm 31 person encountered anxiety: “it is the what if” issue. It looks like what if the children remain disobedient, why are all my children “the prodigals”, why is there issue in the body and nothing is given as the cause nor the solution?

But as that woman who was the esteemed by her husband her children, we too would like to be esteemed and Proverbs 31 points to children that rise and call her blessed and her husband also. Your children may not call you the blessed, but God calls you the blessed and from that point you begin. I say to you b-e-g-i-n that walk in seeing God as your refuge as seen in Psalm 91. See yourself dwelling with the Most High God and then whatever is going on outside of you will be buffered by that power of God on the inside of you. Psalm 31: 19-21 Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You, in the presence of the sons of men! 20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be the LORD, for He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a strong city!

Yes, we are the fortified when we stay with God and work at that relationship within His presence and His great love that sustain man or woman in all the challenges outside the home as coronavirus or men with wicked intentions as trying to overthrow elections for their purposes, for that challenge is seen, but we keep our homes in His love and His focus. We keep speaking His word over our spouse, over their position, over their drive to work and home, we keep God’s angels active to perform what is needed. So if you have been dealt a blow and find yourself in a depressive state, social challenges being locked in one location or with physical ailments when you have no opportunity to seek medical help or even with family problems, the key thing to remember is this: we exist. God planned for you and He planned for me. He planned something good. He desired us to live as this moment for His glory and to His praise. We belong to Him Who is greater. We belong to Him! Proverbs 3: 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; 20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son let them not depart from your eyes-  Keep sound wisdom and discretion;  22 So they will be life to your soul, And grace to your neck. 23 Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. 25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; 26 For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught. NKJV

Righteous behavior will always bring a great reward. We are to detest anything not virtuous. We look for His wisdom, to gain more knowledge of Him and then apply that to our lives and that of our children, our jobs, and anything else that can come in contact with our lives. Wise counsel is needed when there is anxiety, loss and pain. Wisdom of God is so vital to withstand the onslaught of the enemy and we keep to His peace, and love that guides us through whatever emotional, physical, mental or spiritual chaos. For we have seen what a virus can do, but we also know what God can do when we allow Him in!

If the Name of Jesus was on More Lips than Covid 19

Staying Out of the Maze of Confusion
In a conversation today at noon, my husband was driving from one office to another office in his working day. He always checks in at home to make sure I am fine. As we were finishing our conversation, he said those words listed in this weeks title: " if the Name of Jesus was on more lips than covid 19 this whole thing would be over......( I am thinking: for Jesus would have returned for those His believers')! And how so true that would be indeed if we spoke more about Him than the ills of some rotten virus. So I thought by the Holy Spirit to write about that name of Jesus and how to stay out of the maze of confusion!

Knowing those things like viruses pertaining to ebola, coronavirus and even Sars are under our feet, still how many choose to proclaim it or them? Surely we are to be warned of what is raging? We should certainly know what is within our region and lurking within the community or the town next door. We certainly would not want to take a trip in a snowstorm when the safest place would be in a warm dry home or hotel room away from the wind chill factors that kill the average person in just minutes!  Or you certainly would want to know that a bridge is out and no traffic is allowed especially if said bridge is connecting the roadway you are traveling on to get home to spouse and children . Still many will drive on through without heeding any of those truths given to them. And while some people have no regard toward those living around them with some underlying weakness that could cause them to die to the "unseen" yet living virus with at least two names right now, many are still being infected! Like the woman who found out she had it, and then yes, boarded a plane and flew from JFK to Florida and be arrested to being a typhoid Mary spreading disease. Yes, she is now in prison for doing just that.

In the first two or three weeks of this outbreak, I heard of how many were running to emergency rooms to get in quickly only to find out if they had the new strain of virus. But all they learned quickly was that they had long lines of people ahead of them. They could have asked us how fast they might get through those lines, for some five years ago we had been asked to go to the emergency room and ask for so-in-so and to have a blood transfusion for iron for me. But when we got there we were at the end of the line and yes, it was a long line. And one by one, each name called would head to the waiting nurse with her clipboard in hand . In regard to those checking us in at 5 pm,  I had been given a chair to be wheeled around in, for in view of the man at the desk, he diagnosed my coloring as somewhat jaundiced! Yikes!

Those in line continued to go in and come out....and some we did not see come out and finally about 10:30 pm we got in....some five hours after we had arrived and the doctor said I needed a room and would not require iron but something more serious: Blood!
Indeed, we can know many things today and yet how do we forecast what is going on in our bodies? But many of those on that specific day were given things to help them get over an over dose of some drug they took and others, who did not have a regular doctor and they came for some kind of aid. Yet, all in some respect each had required some "help"!

You and I can do something to improve our health. Everyday we must speak truth against any pretentious attitude that we are fine, our blood pressure is normal and that we may only have a few pounds to lose when reality speaks, it may appear a lot differently. Weight additions can mount up and blood pressure can change from normal to real a "high" mark! But I also know making those choices to speak right words makes a lot of difference in whether we will be at peace or active in chaos on our street!

I know that between my husband and myself we made many changes and still seek to change some things. We have also found my blood pressure is back to normal like it was suppose to be. And yes, pounds are lost when avoiding that sweet high road of sugar and carbs! We must be also be intentional to rid those same things out of our thinking...and yes, in our speaking......to remove the wrong from us!

God's word equips us to take the needed steps to change our thinking and to make our body line up with that TRUTH God has given us in the Holy Bible.
Choices are to be for the right things that produce more life and not for death and dying.

On the road to Healthy Whole, we remember that this is the day the Lord has made for us.....We are to be glad in it: Psalm 118:24 This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Through salvation, God turned things around for us! We have the Holy Spirit to direct our way through what may appear as a maze of things that might confuse. But when we truly ask Him for help with our body in mind, He will direct our path into that which is of life.

I like what Charles Spurgeon wrote on Prayer and Spiritual Warfare. He said and I quote here: I write this with all reverence: God Himself cannot deliver who is not in trouble. Therefore, it is to some advantage to be in distress, because God can then deliver you. Even Jesus Christ, the Healer of men, cannot heal a person who is not sick. Therefore, sickness is not an adversity for us, but rather an advantageous opportunity for Christ to heal us. The point is, my reader, your adversity may prove your advantage by offering occasion for the display of divine grace.

May Divine Grace appear for you in your road to health. If you find you are in a darken place, and if depression seems to be everywhere you look, then you are focusing on the wrong thing. We must have a focus on what He has given us to run the race set before us! Depression can occur and many people experience it at some point in their lifetime, but we have HELP from the Holy One!

If we truly believe Jesus' own prophecies of end-time disease epidemics, we had better be realistic about where we should put our ultimate trust! And I understand that today there are many, many people quick to trust doctors:  "Don't we now have penicillin and other wonderful drugs that can cure almost anything?" Yes, and some work indeed and others appear to cause more harm than good.

BUT Jesus went to the Cross and for those who would receive Him, He gave the right to be called the sons of God!  John 1: 11-13 He came to His own and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
And as those sons we are seated in heavenly places, there is no sickness in the kingdom of God.

In that Redemption by His shed blood, we are the pardoned, and the healed. He sent His word and healed us by delivering us from destruction's like coronavirus, or Covid 19! Jesus healed the brokenhearted and He binds our wounds. This is an up close and personal Jesus who desires to restore to us health and close any wounds of sorrow or grief that have festered from our childhood!

Who pardons all your iniquities , who heals all your diseases…..Psalm 103:3
He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destruction's: Psalm 107:20
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds………Psalm 147:3
‘For I will restore you to health and I will heal you of your wounds, declares the LORD…Jeremiah 30:17

God has given us His Holy Spirit to not fear. He has given us power, love, and a sound mind to prevail in all situations. Facebook was not given to help us out of a "mess". Abiding in God and not in our cell phone will bring the needed help right when we need it! We abide in Him, speak His wisdom and declare those things Jesus taught: man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. "You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve." You shall not tempt the LORD Your God".

Most certainly today, we see stadiums closed due this "virus thing". Yes those who managed a ticket to get through the front gate, can no longer get that ticket and go to that game they worshiped. They have to stay away in the case of virus that can kill a certain age group of people. But how many have gotten sick who are younger than say, fifty or forty years of age?

Holding fast the pattern of sound words and always cultivating a right relationship with His Holy Spirit propels us into the power of God for signs and wonders. And it is God Who answers, not because of you or me, but because someone out there is in need of great help. He answers to bring them closer to Him, and not to us. His will be done in you …and me……..who call on His name and according to His plan and purpose.  May you excel into His excellence following His leadership into praying His word for you and yours.
We speak His name, we lift Him high today, the personal name of Jesus ...we make mention of Him, declare His death was to give us life and in Him is the Faithful and the true. He came to bring the family of God back into unity with a relationship with the Father. Today we see and we speak the merciful justice of God that is the Gospel!

Today is push back the devil day! Today we see your lies and clearly discern between our Shepherd’s voice and any other voice! We take every thought captive of coronavirus and exchange it for the word of truth as we thirst for You Lord and we hunger for that truth of God daily. WE resist lying thoughts for we have the mind of Christ.  For where the enemy’s lies of any kind of virus speaks, we have pushed back ……… by inviting the power of the Holy Spirit to cleanse our minds.

Lord, You have given us authority over all the power of the enemy. By that authority given to us in Jesus Christ, we command all lying spirits be put far away from our minds, our spouses' mind and even our children and grand-children’s minds.

Today we proclaim that God has given us a sound mind. We will not entertain confusion, but live in clarity. WE will not be tormented with impure, evil, negative or sinful thoughts, but be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that we may prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)
We shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday” (Psalm 91:5-6) may the Spirit of the Lord rest upon us, “ the Spirit of wisdom, and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD” ( Isaiah 11:2) Amen and Amen.

Proven

Psalm 18:30 NKJV As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. 31 For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, and sets me on my high places. 34 He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

From this David reveals on the day of his deliverance from the hand of King Saul and other enemies! In the very first verse of Psalm 18, he sings I will love You, O LORD my strength.
God's love will prove out every time we call on Him. Have we called on Him today? Have we called out His name in the valley of Achor, that valley of trouble?
Psalm 119:140 Your word is very pure; therefore You servant loves it.

The servant loves God's word for it has been proven, yes, has been tested time and time again and He has proven faithful in His love toward us. Psalm 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. David called on God, and time after time, God answered and in many ways!

In that walk of faith, we give opportunity to trust that God will fulfill His Word. It is that which will put trust in His character and believe what He has given through that very word. David wrote on the character of God in Psalm 23.

Psalm 23:4………..4 Yea, though I walk through the valley
 of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.  NKJV

Jesus spoke on the mercy of God: Luke 6::35-36……...35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your
reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High.
For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

And of this is written of His truth: Psalm 119:160…….160 The entirety of
Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

NKJV

Trust is a word that in God, about God and through God, we are to be deliberate in that Trust in His thoughts and ways: Mark 16:17-18   NKJV  17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

This account is only given in the book of Mark!  We know that there are verses that point to the commission of the apostles: as in Matthew 28: 16-20 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20”teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen." (  also found Luke 24:36-49)

But Mark gives this: “signs will follow those who believe.” Now some say this means that Christians can handle snakes, but seriously the meaning has to do with trust that Christians are protected if they are bitten. Remember a snake had bit Paul while he was on the island of Malta. No he was not on a “cruise ship” but on a ship that fell apart in rough seas when those in authority did not pay attention to his warnings given by the Holy Spirit to stay put. They proceeded into seas that would wreak havoc when stirred up by a really bad storm with attitude. With this in mind, many things played a role in Paul getting to the island of Malta, as the captain who chose go when even the time of year was contrary to a yes answer. Still it is in those situations that money speaks louder than words!

Acts 28:1-6 Now when they had escaped, they then found out that the island was called Malta. 2 And the natives showed us unusual kindness; for they kindled a fire and made us all welcome, because of the rain that was falling and because of the cold. 3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. 4 So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a  murderer whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.  5 But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. 6 However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him,  they changed their minds and said that he was a god.

Luke the physician wrote in Luke 10:17-20 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” 18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19”Behold, I give you that authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

He also recorded this in Acts 5:12-13... And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people." And they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.

Some speculate that this was just for the apostles, but again Mark 16 and verse 17 speaks, "these signs will follow those who believe." Does not say those who are just apostles, those who where just alive at that time, but those even now who believe!

Again looking at Luke 10:17-20 was Jesus pointing to "protection". We are to trust Him even as simply spoken. We are not to rejoice that we have the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and the power of the enemy (Satan) but we rejoice that our names are in heaven. We are a part of God's family. What He has promised, He provides. Anything we do on earth is either done by our own hand or God's power flowing through us. Either our belief will be in Him or in ourselves. We are either born again to live in His kingdom which has come or we are living as the old man in sin and without God!

In understanding that faith is a spiritual walk we walk by faith and not by sight. Our trust is in God's thoughts and God's ways which are higher than our own. (Isaiah 55:8-13)
So we must have a firm conviction in acknowledging God’s truth. We admit His words where we display our faith in them and where faith is alive.. John 3:3  NKJV  Jesus answered & said to him, “ Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  John 3:5 NKJV Jesus answered, “most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water & the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

It is also a firm surrender to Him where conduct appears under His leadership: Romans 10:8-10  Amp Bible.. 8 But what does it say? The Word (God’s Message in Christ) is near you, on your lips & in your heart; that is, the Word ( the message, the basis & object of faith which we preach. 9 Because if you acknowledge & confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord & in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, & rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in,& relies on Christ) & so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God) & with the mouth he confesses (declares openly & speaks out freely his faith) & confirms[his] salvation.

From Paul assisting those people of Malta, still a snake decided to bite. But Paul by his faith was lighting the way into that which would bring glory to God. For He proved to Paul that He was always with him. Are we lighting the way that proves we know God is the true and the faithful ONE?

God’s kingdom authority conflicts with the worlds system of authority :Luke 22:24-27  Amp Bible 24 Now an eager contention arose among them [as to] which of them was considered & reputed to be the greatest. 25 But Jesus said to them, the kings of the Gentiles are deified by them & exercise lordship [ruling as emperor-gods] over them; & those in authority over them are called benefactors & well-doers. 26 But this is not to be so with you, on the contrary, let him who is the greatest among you become like the youngest, & him who is the chief & leader like one who serves. 27 For who is the greater, the one who reclines at the table ( the master), or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am in your midst as ONE Who serves. See also Mark 10:35-37; Matthew 20:20-28

These men were eager to be a “somebody”. They wanted significance. Yet,  even within this group & that which Jesus spoke, whether jobs, sports or even in schools and academies & even in possessions, still our identity is not in the accomplishments or things, but in Jesus, He whom we serve is in our midst! The greatest is the one who resides with Christ, settled in Him & relying on His sacrifice. We are not to get our identity in the position, the things we do or things we have, we are to serve Him from the identity He has given us.
We will either be wrapped up in His grace or wrapped up in something of the world. May our love resound not because that which we do but that which is wrapped up in the mercy of God that appeared as grace to people who required life, who required a Savior and may we show our love to Him this day and every day. Our names are written in heaven and we are thankful to participate in His kingdom that has come.
There is a new virus out now called the coronavirus! But it has nothing on Jesus, for all things are under His feet. He is authority and He granted us authority to walk as He walked. Build your faith, stand firm and know that our faith is spiritual, it represents a trust in Almighty God who made heaven and earth. Stand in belief that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. If God be for us, then who can be against us? Amen!
