We saw that
in what is called 9.11! In that moment of time, men of evil decided among themselves
to attack a nation. They decided to take down the twin towers and among those
other building as well within that area of the east coast. Yet, men and women
stood up in that great hour to stop what they could to shield others from the
evil attitudes of men from a foreign nation.
I have
heard that some have no regard as to war on Terror, yet without the armed
forces those against us would have no walls to prevent them from doing harm to those
who live in this nation that I call home!
For us in America and those older than thirty would know the men and
women who fought in World War 2. Some were taught in school about that war that was kept far from us. Yet, I heard recently of something that had occurred in
that state of Oregon and yet I never read it in a book. Yes, it evidently was
kept silent. But some children were to go out on a field trip being it
was early spring one year. One such child was kept home that day, because her
mother had this heaviness of heart that her daughter should not participate in
this adventure. She knew not why, but she held her authority as a parent that her
daughter would not be there that day.
The
children had come to the place where the field trip was to begin and the leader
was there. As children can sometimes do, they ran ahead of their teacher and
leader. Although he, the pastor told them to wait on him, they ran yelling all
the while ahead of him. And then it was a sound pierced his hearing. An explosion
shook the ground and as the pastor ran to where the sound came, a horror struck
him to his core. The children were all dead including his pregnant wife . The
bomb sent somehow from Japan had made it to American soil and it blew as the
children investigated it. It was May 5, 1945 and the headline of the local paper
revealed six had been killed by the balloon bomb. It was in the area of Lakeview, Oregon
where this event occurred.
As my
husband and I watched this unfold, I was aware of those who survived that
blast. Those who did not attend that day and those who remained after death
had taken their teenage children. Where did they find help in their grief? It was to
be a day outdoors and enjoy the beauty of the hills, valleys, streams and
wildlife.
Did they
pray before they went out? Did they pray before even leaving home that morning?
Yet, I am certain much prayer went on afterwards.
Reminded of the people who ran from terror in Europe, and the land became filled with the terror himself who took his hatred to an all-time high to annihilate one group of people. There were people in leadership in England who wanted to hear peace from Hitler, and his name was Chamberlain, yet it was another leader who would see behind the façade of Hitler and his name was Winston Churchill. When we cast our brother or sister away from us, we are no longer civil. And casting the Jewish people into the hands of the hater Hitler proved fatal for many Jewish born men, women and children.

Freedom is
never free and it will always cost you and me something. No matter whether we
hold a political affiliation or not, whether, we only stand as conservatives
with a belief in our personal responsibility, where limited government is seen,
that the traditional American values and a strong national defense is acquired
and continued, we will still see those times when haters appear. But when one group decide they want to lead
the world in anarchy, to put others into bondage and reveal the dictates of
their hearts then you find anarchists!
I cannot
speak for my husband on this matter, but from my own experience I heard my dad
speak many times of World War 2. And I heard the sacrifices many people made within
families to send their husband and/or their sons and brothers to war that would
claim their lives. My sister had a teacher in grade school whose husband was
lost on the Arizona at Pearl Harbor on December 6, 1941. She knew where his body remained and she never had
the chance to say good-bye to the love of her life!
Our
brother-in-law lost a dear friend, not in the rice paddies of Vietnam but to the
alcohol he drank when he returned from a war no one wanted! Yes, many men and
women went overseas to places that the battle would remain over there and not
come to American soil. Still we see terror and it is on the streets and within
people’s hearts.
For the war
that rages, prayer is important. For heartache still looms on the horizon of
many who have seen those wartime atrocities. They still hear the sounds within
their hearing while they sit in their homes, but the wounds remains of those
who saw suffering of so many when one man decides he wants to rule all with an
iron fist.
Father God, we pray for our brothers
and sisters who are today still suffering from emotional scars of yesterday. We
know no one is immune to suffering and today we pray for the sorrow they still
experience. We pray for that work to begin to today in those who served
overseas. You know where they reside, in what city and state, and help them
know You are there in their midst. We pray for those who returned to heartache
and more pain as the soldier returned to a land where those who chose not to heed those atrocities overseas. Touch
these dear ones with the comfort You provide and what they need and so require. Father God, we
pray they will know that we have not forgotten them in their service for this
nation we call home.
Father, John 15:13 tells us that
greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for ones friends. We have seen this time
and time again with those who sign up to serve when others try to terrorize a
group of people. Father as they were strong in that hour, we pray these dear men
and women would be standing strong, being courageous as they walk towards being
whole in body, soul, and spirit.
Father, we pray for healing to begin
today. May people step up to tell them, these veterans of past wars what debt
we owe them our veterans who fought to keep us free and because of their sacrifice,
we are free to worship You our God and Father. We are free to attend church, to
worship, to have a Bible, and to serve You our Father without fear of being put
to death.
I am thankful for my dad, my
brother-in-law and those too numerous to mention here, but they are forever on
my heart and my husbands, because so many have given so much for this land.
I pray that we would not take for
granted those who sacrificed so much for we know that there still remains
countries where Christians are afraid of prison and even of death to speak of
that belief they hold in their hearts. Our veterans are significant Father God
and we thank You for each and every one. For those across this nation and
around the world, those who keep the walls of peace in place, we salute their
value of life and for life! Father by Your Spirit have Your way in their lives today. May
they each arise and take their rightful place as heroes and may our youth know
what a real hero looks like in the face of terror.
Father, we give thanks for all that
You are doing in the lives of those who have given so much. May they experience
the love of God in ways they have not known in Jesus name.
For those of you who have read this
and live in another nation, know that we are not separate in the spirit of God.
We hold fast to His truth and the words of eternal life. May your nation be
free to worship God in truth. May you know the peace of Him that passes all understanding.
May you be a voice to that which is given the Gospel to those who are dying
without Christ. For it is in Him that we are to live, move and have our being.
Without Him, you and I can do nothing, but with Him all things are possible to
those who believe.
Today, we honor the true heroes of
America! Today we honor those around the world, who fought for freedom so
others might enjoy that freedom, because freedom is never free……..it is a great
price to give whether it is man or woman and for Him who gave the great sacrifice,
our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.
