Is Your World Falling Apart?

Distress is seen when it appears your world is falling apart!
1 Samuel 22: 1-5 NKJV David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. So when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him. 2 And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him. 3 Then David went from there to Mizpah of Moab,; and he said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and mother come here with you, till I know what God will do for me." 4 So he brought them before the king of Moab, and they dwelt with him all the time that David was in the stronghold. 5 Now the prophet Gad said to David, " Do not stay in the stronghold; depart and go to the land of Judah." So David departed and went into the forest of Horeb.

From Saul's defiant rage on David, the young man has gone into the wilderness and there lodged in a cave. When his family hears of it, they come to be with him. But also that came to David was everyone who was in distress, in debt, and yes the discontented.
Saul has such fierce hatred of David, even his own family fear for their lives. So many have come to be joined with David. And in this group will be those who stay with him all the way to the throne when he would become king.

When David fled, he ran to what he thought was a safe place. Now we know in verse 4 this stronghold would be called or now known as Masada. And it was from there his activity would take him north to Aphek and south to Amalek.

But this was the time in the stronghold that David wrote Psalm 57. It was a prayer that he had prayed in those moments of intense distress when Saul chased him.

He wrote: "Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by." 2 "I will cry out to God Most High, to God who performs all things for me, 3 He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth."

David goes on to describe his life at that moment of time: 4 My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men who are set on fire, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

6 They have prepared a net for my steps, My soul is bowed down; they have dug a pit before me; into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah

Here in the next verses he is determined to speak about his soul to give praise to God. 7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. 8 Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn.

We,like David, should be those who awaken our souls to sing and with joy give to the Lord God that which sounds like the lute and the harp. I know some people with the most beautiful voices that they never need an orchestra to back them up when they worship God. They have that sweetness to deliver to God their heart felt worship before Him without regard to who is present. They sing songs ...a new song to Him who is worthy to be praised.
You and I should awaken our day with a song to God in our hearts.

9 I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations (Gentiles);  10 For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. 11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above the earth.

We must come to that place and pray! When there is so much chaos in the streets, we require an Almighty God. Jesus is our Intercessor and He is not surprised by that which has overtaken man, for certainly without God, you see what is seen today. People speak and have no truth in their speaking. It is seen as one lie built on another lie!

Has someone dug a pit for you to fall into? Pray. Has someone threatened to take your job? Pray. Has someone breathed out lies against you? Pray.

David came to a cave and was joined by many. They were relying on his relationship with God. What about us? We as individual should be relying on God to make the right decisions and that only comes from hearing God answer our prayers. Be still and know Him! Be still and hear Him speak today. Quiet your soul to the praises of a heart that seeks Him and then you will find the answers to move out of a cave into that which regards the kingly life in Him. Amen.
