Spiritual Appetite

Worldliness: Jesus said we were in the world John 17:11 and are affected by our worldly surroundings more than we realize, more than we meditate on or evaluate within our thinking. He brought us the kingdom to know truth!

Being bombarded by flesh is those dictates to satisfy flesh creature. It is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. All this has nothing to do with our Father God.  No voices in this world will tell you to be spiritually minded. No, they will never speak that to you! But actual prayer and praying will give each of us that measure of immunity against the dictates of this world. It is immunity against anything wrong from the world.

Firing a passion for prayer requires that early bird approach, to make time to seek the Lord through His Word and prayer. And then, we are to fan it into flame, and to fuel it up for brightness and the His presence.

Psalm 107: 9 He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.

As we hold Jesus in our thoughts and prayers, the world will slowly dim as the song goes, the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. As He fills us, then we see heaven on earth. We see that which the Father purposed for our lives. We hold in our heart that which is His wisdom of truth.

Psalm 42:1 as the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God, when shall I come and appear before God?

May our appetite for Him grow! We Ask God to give us His heart, wisdom, revelation, and understanding.  WE are open to whatever God would show us!  It may be something that is completely practical, an inspiring idea, or such a change from what we have seen and known. It could be moving to another region to begin the new in Him.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. It was in the beginning that God spoke into being heavens and the earth. And what will we call into being within our lives.

Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart.

The Lord searches our hearts, yes those inner depths that hold much nonsensical stuff. He reveals what must leave our hearts and He heals what must be healed.

We can do without the foolish things of life. We can do away with time wasters of such kinds that seem to entertain but add nothing to you. No! No, time wasters for us who want to know God and hear His voice.

We build up. We read about the spiritual; that warfare and our authority as a spiritual warrior.  Psalm 144:1 Praise be to the Lord my Rock who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. Luke 10:19 ESV Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.

Isaiah 54:17 NKJV  No weapon formed against you shall prosper and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord.

Prayer: the Altar Heritage………it is where Love Resides…2 Timothy 1:2-7,13-14 ..Paul an Apostle (special messenger) of Christ Jesus by the will of God; according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus. 2 To Timothy , [my] beloved child: Grace (favor and spiritual blessing) ,mercy and [heart] peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord! 3 I thank my God whom I worship with a pure conscience; in the spirit of my fathers, when without ceasing I remember you night and day in my prayers. 4 And as I recall your tears, I yearn to see you so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am calling up memories of your sincere and unqualified faith ( the leaning of your entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence of His power, wisdom, and goodness, [a faith] that first lived permanently in [the heart of]  your grandmother Lois, your mother Eunice and now, I am [fully] persuaded, [dwells] in you also. 6. That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in your by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination] 7 for God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear) but[He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control . 13 Hold fast and follow the pattern of wholesome and sound teaching which you have heard from me, in [all] faith and love which are [for us] in Christ Jesus. 14 guard and keep [with the greatest care] the precious and excellently adapted [truth] which has been entrusted [to you], by the [the help of the] Holy Spirit Who makes His home in us. NKJV

In this we are told of Timothy, as Paul prays for him, he speaks…... 6. That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination] 7 for God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear) but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control .

Timothy had a background of work done in his heart by seeing his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice who continued to pray over his heart. They prayed the Father's will by faith. They keep burning the flame God would hold out to Timothy.

Our expectancy as sons of God is one that begins with waiting for His answer. We will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; but let them not turn back to folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him. that glory may dwell in our land. Psalm 85:8-9

An expectancy of waiting……… SEEING FIRE FANNED INTO FLAME ........ the Holy Ghost AT WORK IN US

1.       To have altar time , allowing HIM to speak Psalm 85:8-9 NKJV…..8 I will hear what God the LORD will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly.  9 Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land.

Allowing God to speak to us, having this time of expressing our desire to Hear HIM speak and speaking the scriptures and then wait……..

2.       ALTAR TIME, brings us to have fellowship and relationship…….like a parent with their child……….to experience parental love and guidance…………In Galatians 5:6 says, For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor un-circumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated, energized and expressed and working through love.

People think that the Scripture means that if they do not love other people, their faith will not work!!

WHAT THIS SCRIPTURE ACTUALLY MEANS IS: THAT THEIR FAITH CANNOT WORK IF THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH FATHER GOD LOVES THEM! ALLOWING GOD TO LOVE US GIVES US THE ABILITY TO LOVE PEOPLE.   IT IS IN TRUSTING GOD AND WALKING WITH HIM IN FAITH………IT IS LOVE THAT WE KNOW INTIMATELY.

3.       DISCIPLINED TO PRAY….Col 4:2-6………..2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3 meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, 4 that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.  NKJV

4.       PRAYER IN TONGUES, causes His light OF HIS WORD to show love to others without compromise. Imagine if everyone born again prayed in Tongues. This world would be turned toward Jesus! Or else everything we know would be changed consistently for His glory and to His praise.

Romans 12:9-14………9 Let love be without hypocrisy. ABHOR WHAT IS EVIL. CLING TO WHAT IS GOOD. 10 BE KINDLY AFFECTIONATE TO ONE ANOTHER WITH BROTHERLY LOVE ( as parents are with their children), IN HONOR GIVING PREFERENCE TO ONE ANOTHER ( means leading them and being an example to others ); 11 NOT LAGGING IN DILIGENCE, FERVENT IN SPIRIT ( having zeal, a passion of fire), SERVING THE LORD( promoting His glory everywhere).  12  rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer……

David… we are told  prayed seven times a day (Ps 119:164): of Daniel, that he was accustomed to pray three times a day (Dan 6:10); of our Savior we have repeated instances of his praying mentioned morning, noon and night; and the prayer was given by the apostles.

13 DISTRIBUTING to the needs of the saints, GIVEN TO HOSPITALITY(cheerfully entertain strangers). NKJV

5.       To tarry and be endued with power from on high, that as we spend time with the Spirit of Grace, that love will permeate all that we do and all that we say! John 6:63 amp………..It is the Spirit Who gives life[ He is the life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefits whatever [there is no profit in it]. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.

To be endued with power from on high. It by passes the enemy and comes to our hearts. The Spirit-filled words of God will cause our spirit man to live out what God has purposed for our lives. It is a life without compromise where victory, wholeness and peace of God appears.

IN Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!  NKJV

Like godly grandmothers, and godly mothers, praying at the Altar, brings a champion heritage…….brings a harvest of blessing, ….it requires regular altar time, putting God first, willing to embrace His love…….a love that will permeate all that we do and all that we say!

God founded the church—the spiritual Temple—to be a community of called-out believers, given His Spirit. It is a spiritual organism, not contained within the confines of a physical organization. Its purpose is to "perfect [or, complete] the saints"—to foster spiritual growth into the image of God. The church—and the corporate organizations into which the believers are gathered—serve a vital role, for God does nothing on a whim.

He is strategic and His military plans are authentic!

To Sweeten Our life and that of Others

Was hearing a teaching about a week ago. The teacher was speaking on Polycarp.

It was the city of Smyrna that contained a temple of the Olympian Zeus, with whose cult that of the Roman emperors was associated. Olympian games were celebrated here, and excited great interest in people who came from great distances.

The extreme interest excited by the games at Smyrna may perhaps account for the remarkable ferocity exhibited by the population against the aged bishop Polycarp. It was exactly on such occasions that what the pagans regarded as the unpatriotic and anti-social spirit of the early Christians became most apparent; and it was to the violent demands of the people assembled in the stadium that the Roman proconsul yielded up the martyr. They had to have something to culminate their hatred!

The letter of the Smyrnaeans, in which the account of his martyrdom is contained, represents the Jews as taking part with the Gentiles in accusing him (Polycarp) as an enemy to the state religion-conduct which would be inconceivable in a sincere Jew, but which was quite natural in those which the sacred writer characterizes as "a synagogue of Satan" (Rev 2:9).

Polycarp was executed before the mass of people with a great sword: a blade if you will.  In his dying, a great wonderful scent filled the area and out to the city which was the scent of the fragrance of the Lord. The Lord’s scent filled the atmosphere! And what would they speak? What captured them that day when Polycarp died?

2 Corinthians 2:12-17  12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord, 13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia. 14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.  NKJV

Hosea 14:4-7    4 "I will heal their backsliding,  I will love them freely,

For My anger has turned away from him. 5 I will be like the dew to Israel;  He shall grow like the lily,  And lengthen his roots like Lebanon. 6 His branches shall spread;  His beauty shall be like an olive tree,  And his fragrance like Lebanon. 7 Those who dwell under his shadow shall return;  They shall be revived like grain,  And grow like a vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon.   NKJV

Song 4:9-12   9 You have ravished my heart,  My sister, my spouse;  You have ravished my heart  With one look of your eyes,  With one link of your necklace.

10 How fair is your love,  My sister, my spouse!  How much better than wine is your love,  And the scent of your perfumes Than all spices! 11 Your lips, O my spouse,  Drip as the honeycomb;  Honey and milk are under your tongue;  And the fragrance of your garments  Is like the fragrance of Lebanon.  NKJV

Psalm 45:8-9   8 All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad. 9 Kings' daughters are among Your honorable women;  At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.  NKJV

Our garments, the robes of righteousness, scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia. We are robed in righteousness. We take on His scents while spending much time with Him.  Displayed in Jesus ,we experience the beauty that He always gives. He is the self-less giver. We must abandon this world to know real love and real beauty!

That one purpose is to let God be Himself through us engulfed in the flames of holiness and released from all other afflictions. In the covenant keeping God, we are to come to His grace, consecrate ourselves not by taking it lightly, but a command of God for every believer……that our relationship is with Jesus, Our Husband!  ……..AS the body of believer’s it is a relationship and separated unto Him, we should know no other! God has spoken the language of love through His Son. And His Royal Son is coming for His Bride.

We give thanks, for it is Your presence that prevents deception or falsehood from taking hold:  Building our faith against all falsehood ….Psalm 101:7 He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.

By building our faith in these words of God, those who work deceit shall not dwell within our house. They will not continue in our presence. Another we speak is that We are NOT canceled but we do cancel threats of harm or property damage that belongs to God’s sons and daughters: Luke 4:28-30 NKJV So all those in the synagogue , when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29 and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. 30 Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.  WE also speak that those who would cancel us, that they would have an encounter with Almighty God: their hearts would be drawn to the truth of His Word, to the love that covers Him…leading to life to bring change to their hearts!

Acts 14:21-28 NKJV And they had preached the gospel to that city & made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, & Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, & saying, “we must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” 23 So when they had appointed elders in every church, & prayed with fasting they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed! From Acts 14: 21-22 Tribulations: Paul taught the kingdom of God. He also taught that ‘kingdom” people will suffer trials and tribulations. “ ……….we must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.

Victory is available but not instant:2 Thessalonians 1:5 which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; 6 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble, you, 7 & to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels.  God did not promise life without struggle; Dominion is being recovered by the presence of the King within us, ministered by the Holy Spirit’s power.

1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world----our faith.  We confess :Romans 8:31-32  What then shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?   We confess: Proverbs 21:31  The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the LORD.    We confess: 1 Corinthians 15:55-58 NKJV  O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? 56 The sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Faith in God carried Polycarp through the valley of death. It brought him face to face with God. He held honor to God. His garments and body would have been strewn with dirt, blood and ruin, but while he was dying his scented life was a tribute unto God and no one can take that from him or you ever.

What will our last days be on earth? Will we see the Lord coming in His glory or will we face the valley of death….that place of sorrows? Should it come, it is not over and we are not done, we have the scent of the Lord as we continue in His presence to His place and to His glory forever. Amen and Amen.

Enduring Faith

Enduring by faith: Romans 1:17   NIV

17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."   Speaking words of faith…

Diligently Seek Him: Hebrews 11:5-6    NIV…..5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Enoch walked with God. He had relationship with Him. He did have to run to catch up to HIM!

VERSE 6:  Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

Living by Faith, receiving His promises: Hebrews 10:36-39      NIV

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For in just a very little while,

"He who is coming will come and will not delay.

38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him."   39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.

Philippians 1:25-30   Amplified Bible……………25 Since I am convinced of this, I know that I shall remain and stay by you all, to promote your progress and joy in believing and glorying in Christ Jesus, through my coming to you again. 26 So that in me you may have abundant cause for exultation. 27 Only be sure as citizens so to conduct yourselves [that] your manner of life [will be] worthy of the good news (the Gospel) of Christ, so that whether I [do] come and see you or am absent, I may hear this of you that you are standing firm in united spirit and purpose, striving side by side and contending with a single mind for the faith of the glad tidings (the Gospel) 28 And do not [for a moment] be frightened or intimidated in anything by your opponents and adversaries, for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign (proof and seal) to them of [their impending ] destruction, but [a sure token and evidence] of your deliverance and salvation, and that from God. 29 For you have been granted [the privilege] for Christ’s sake  not only to believe in (adhere to, rely on and trust in) Him, but also to suffer in His behalf. 30 So you are engaged in the same conflict which you saw me [wage] and which you now  hear to be mine [still].

From verse 27 are we those worthy of the good news the Gospel so that we stand firm in united spirit and purpose that God sent forth?

It is God’s grace which causes us to throw ourselves at the feet of the Lord Jesus. It should certainly look like praise and much rejoicing for His pleasure. For He granted us salvation through Jesus and by His grace to us,  we have a life abundantly forever which we have not earned nor have we merited. It is only through Jesus that we live, move and have our being.

Hebrews 10:22-25    NIV…………22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

1 Corinthians 16:13-14    NIV

13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14 Do everything in love.

May we on this journey with God always maintain what Paul had for all the churches. That whether there were false brethren, danger in the wilderness, sleeplessness with hunger or thirst….may our daily thinking keep watch over ourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made us overseers. May we be those shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

(circle of influence)   So be on your guard

The GUARANTEE of the Holy Spirit: Where Burden Turns to Wonder

As a Christians have you ever had somebody tell you they're out to get you? They are going to level you? They're going to get you fired, plotting against you, or are out to take your children or spouse? Maybe you've had children or a spouse turn against you. But what God commands is what is to be seen spiritually in our lives.  Heard of this Christian missionary going from their church overseas to be held captive by those who have evil hearts. Steven Riddle and his wife, pastors of a church here in the U. S. but went overseas to help. But in that which hurt came against them. But God gave them His peace that whether shot or not, they would come home and unite with friends and family. And they did. Their peace was preaching to others all the way home and the many months of rehabilitation in another country.

Acts 20:22-31  NIV…………..22 "And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me-the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. (he is speaking of the task, that set before him was to testify)

25 "Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.   27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. (the will of God is His Word)

28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.  ( circle of influence)

29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

Foundational Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:6-24     NKJV……. 6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.      Jesus Christ, the hope of glory in us…Paul was encouraging them in their faith walk…

8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired ( some doubt) even of life.

Paul is stating information on his trials. From Asia probably meant his trials in Ephesus or even Lystra. He was sharing his trials with them, and how his endurance caused them to reap the benefits. Of those places Paul experienced the miraculous of God in his life. He experienced it by the Holy Spirit. He could walk away from a situation no matter how severe it was at the time.

By these trials, his life had been endangered, perhaps, more than once, and he had been called to look death calmly in the face. Of  all these trials;  he would not have the Corinthians ignorant; but desired that they should be made aware of them, that they might sympathize with him, and that through their prayers they might be turned to his benefit. ….. Paul was speaking of that which he had to contend whether it was with wild beasts or destroyed by the people.

2 Corinthians 11:22-28      NKJV

22 Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I. 23 Are they ministers of Christ?--I speak as a fool--I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often. 24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness-- 28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.

 2 Corinthians 4:8-12    NIV

8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

Perplexed  from verse 8…  is not having a way out…but not in despair that is…..at a loss…what is the situation and what do you do next…..???

 2 Corinthians 1:9

9 Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, 10 who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, 11 you also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the gift granted to us through many.

12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom ( not of the old man) but by the grace of God, and more abundantly ( beyond measure the Word was preached)  toward you.

Living as the new man, in that godly sincerity, it was not in or by any man-made ideas of worship. The grace of God had been displayed by their opportunities to minister there.

Their testimony was to glory in the presence of God.  For it is by our faith our worship  pleases God…..God’s holiness is the foundation of everything else God is  and is totally and completely set in Him.  Whatever Paul did, it was always about serving God as the New Man.  Their trust had to be in God Himself.

Is our faith, that trust in God??? When we no longer see what was once our home, will we melt or will we stand for the Lord in this hour?
