Painful Thorns

What a difference 50 years makes in one's life!

What was held in disgust years ago, people do it so willingly today. Was seeing a teaching on what the swimsuits looked like in the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. Everyone had on clothes, but was meant for swimming. Each dressed, the man in his slacks and the woman in a two piece suit covering from the neck to passed the knees. Today it is anything goes. You have a display of nudity in all forms on the beaches today. Sad to say, many have fallen into the culture theme of being free in sin. I remember the Rockettes of yesteryear. Those dancers in NYC were in the Macy's parade over Thanksgiving. What appeared were very thin women. What once looked like healthy dancers, with an amount of muscle on the legs and arms, today they are skin and bone ....Was wondering if it had to do with people losing weight just to be thin. What would Jesus think today?

Jesus was the “meek” man. He humbled Himself before the Father to walk in His steps regarding His image and the foundation of the work to be set forever in His word.

In God's perspective, people who humble themselves, are these people who are strong, while from a human perspective, it depends on whom they want to impress. You can see that in the story of those who impressed David’s son instead of staying alongside David as the King! ( of Ahithophel’s advice to the King seen in 2 Samuel 16, 17, and what occurs in 18) Ahithophel commits suicide out of bitterness in 2 Samuel 17:23.

At the point of Grace, we choose whom we will serve. We are told over and over to forgive those who have done something against us. Yes, and that can occur daily in this world we live in today!

But Humility is so important that God gave Paul some help to make sure that he would stay humble: 2 Corinthians 12:6-10 NKJV 6 For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to or hears from me. 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Yet, this “thorn” in the flesh is a person. We know this because we see it in the Old Testament: Ezekiel 28:22- 24 NKJV “Behold, I am against you, O Sidon; I will be glorified in your midst; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I executed judgments in her and am hallowed in her. For I will send pestilence upon her and blood in her streets; the wounded shall be judge in her midst by the sword against her on every side; then they shall know that I am the LORD. 24 “And there shall not longer be a pricking brier or a “painful thorn for the house of Israel from among all who around them, who despise them. Then they shall know that I am the LORD GOD.”

From this verse 24, we see that insults of the nations are compared to prickly briers and painful thorns. Numbers 33:55 ‘But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. 56 Moreover it shall be that I will do to you as I thought to do to them.’”

In this year, we certainly have the irritants of painful thorns. You expect truth and get that which relates to honoring the evil and to destroy the good!

From the time of Jesus, His walk was about the persistent heart giving the kingdom of God that had come: the Gospel! Jesus was effective in that He laid down His life and could take it up again because He spoke it into being. Paul saw the power of Jesus’ walk and proved to be an effective servant of God.

So humility has a dominant thrust in it where appears a willingness to submit to God, to what is His truth and remain in it to give to others. These two willingly submit to giving their whole life into God’s glory. So what would be the level of our humble hearts? Ephesians 4:3 …endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Unity with each begins in the unity each of us has with God. And it is within that unity with God you can keep unity with others.

So in returning to Ahithophel we find a most fascinating character. In 2 Samuel 15: 12 Ahithophel was a trusted counselor to King David. He was also a member of his cabinet. The King relied on Ahithophel’s advise as if he spoke from God himself seen 2 Samuel 16:23.

Ah yes, but things changed for the “bad”. It was David’s son Absalom that led a rebellion against him. and in this rebellion Ahithophel betrayed David by joining with rebellious Abasalom. AND we can know the king’s heart on this matter when David recounts those painful laments of heart when a trusted Ahithophel betrayed him in Psalm 41:8-9 and Psalm 55:12-15.

Psalm 55:12-16 NKJV For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; then I could hide from him. 13 but it was you, a man my equal, My companion and my acquaintance. 14 We took sweet counsel together and walked to the house of God in the throng. 15 Let death seize them; let them do down alive into hell, for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them. 16 As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me.

AHITHOPHEL: whose name means “foolishness” certainly proved to be the foolish man and it was indicated in his first meeting with Absalom in 2 Samuel 15:12. Yes the rebellion was on! And some parts of historical record give a light on what occurred to make Ahithophel do what he did to the king! In historic background, Ahithophel was the father Eliam found in 1 Chronicles 3:5. And then the grandfather of Bathsheba, so this was a personal ordeal for the man who knew the king and had worked side by side with him. Yes, David as the king with loose morals at this time defiled another man’s wife. Instead of being on the front lines in battle with his men, David stayed in the palace and then had his eye on the lovely Bathsheba bathing.  So in this corrupted action on David’s part, Ahithophel’s sense of wrong crowded his thinking.

Yes, David was king but was to be the honorable and here he slipped terribly in the acts of murder of Bathsheba's husband Uriah the Hittite. What Ahithophel proposed in his pursuit of David is given in 2 Samuel 17:1…… Ahithophel gives Absalom advice: “Now let me choose twelve thousand men and I will arise and pursue David tonight. 2 I will come upon him while he is weary and weak and make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee and I will strike the king.

It was a personal hostility that Ahithophel held for David. 1 Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world. 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Through the Gospel, revelation of truth is power. And in the operation of God’s power through this gospel is victory over sin and death. But to the Jews, this very message of Christ crucified signaled weakness and proved Jesus the false Messiah. The Jews looked for signs instead of in Messiah’s power ( Isaiah 35; 61)  The Jews stumbled in this truth. And of course to the Gentile mind-set, they held no messianic expectations. No, they held only what a deity should be like, so the message of Christ crucified was foolishness to them.

Yes, David did try to hide his corrupted acts. He treated this young woman terribly and her husband even worse. He wanted her to sleep with her own husband to hide his dilemma her creating a child within her womb. But the honorable Uriah would not do that while the men he fought with would not have the same thing available to them. David proceeds with another act of betrayal to place Uriah on the front line of the battle. Yes, death would occur to this young man.

Ahithophel most likely burned in his thinking that became a hate with a force behind it! So Absalom set to take David’s throne, and he, Ahithophel, must have thought some kind of good must have turned towards him in favor, but David prayed in 2 Samuel 15:31 “O LORD I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”  Remember David had already prayed in Psalm 55!

In Ahithophel’s  counsel to Absalom to immediately attack David before he can regroup, a change occurs in a dramatic way.  A loyal friend to David, Hushai pretends to have turned to Absalom’s side and urges him to delay an attack. It was God causing Absalom to heed Husahi’s advice and Ahithophel realizes a fatal mistake. In bitterness, he knows that God will not punish David now. No, because David repented and prayed for God’s hand on the outcome of his own stupid behavior.

In despair it was Ahithophel who would die:  “He put his house in order and then hanged himself (2 Sam 17:23). In prayer, David displayed anguish. He wrote of betrayal in Psalm 55:13-14.  A seemingly spiritual companion betrayed David in verse 13: “ but it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my acquaintance”.

2 Samuel 15:31 Then someone told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, “O LORD I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

Humility goes hand in hand with meekness. Jesus the meek had a restraint being held in the “kind, the gentle, and the sensitive to others’ needs. This is done in truth, with no lying and stealing. They are those who will agree with that which is God’s word. They will not argue God’s word, neither will they insist on their own way in it. People could approach Jesus! They could speak with Him and He would return that which was life to them. He was and is the meek but He is not the “weak”! Like Jesus we are to be the firm and the uncompromising regarding following truth. And what is revealed to us is that Jesus did not overwhelm others who were aligned against Him.

God’s grace has been poured out to us! People who know their Lord and God are the blessed and it shows! We too can enjoy this abundance of grace. We should let people go and give them over to God.

Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” 15 “But if you do not forgive me their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Jesus hung on a Cross at Calvary and forgave the one who hung there with Him. Jesus told the man that he would be with Him in Paradise. The other went his way into hell. It was one who held onto Jesus the Son of God, the Savior of the world. Painful thorns indeed appear in our walk. But we keep our eyes on Jesus! You can see insanity in the world, but peace is found in the Lord alone!

Celebrity or Servant

Seems easy enough to say we are servants, but are we truly that serving heart? Was surprised how many today want to be celebrities and not servants. They want servants, but they themselves want to be the celebrity in whatever category they have chosen. Now some say they can sing, but I differ with them because they can carry no tune.

They may say they can dance but cannot take the first instruction in the moves of that particular dance. In watching the group the Jackson's when they were younger, no doubt who the gifted and talented one was. In any group of children, you can find the one or two who stand out in that field of soccer, basketball or swimming. But what about discernment concerning the servant in your life? Is your spouse one who will step up in need when your own health is being questioned by the best "doctors" or those practicing as doctors?

Was hearing of a lady in Florida who wanted to run again in her district and she stole money from FEMA. She is being brought up on charges of fraud.  In her speaking, she charges those listening to heed other people's offenses and leave her alone!

Another celebrity brought low by their "bad" behavior, in another state of N. Carolina, specifically Charlotte, a church leader spent this last weekend teaching his followers to blow whistles against I.C.E. agents. Oh please know if you are aiding and abetting a known criminal, you can be charged as well! People speak they know these people and they are fine folks, just trying to make a living.  YOU might well learn who lives in your community. Know their names, and where they work and make connections finding out if they are the "criminal".  Becoming a citizen is like that of God's kingdom, you must know who the foundation is as is Jesus.  Blowing whistles at agents like there in N. Carolina is no way in helping them or you. What if your child showed up at your work place and blew a whistle all day long?

As believers today, you and I are to heed that instruction to test worldly philosophies, foreign doctrines, and even new perspectives and ideas that come out of the mouths of politicians, celebrities, community leaders, and even pastors and religious leaders. We are to test everything that comes through our television sets, over our radio waves, and across our laptops and phone screens. Am appalled at what is being telecast as news when it is more toward culture and entertainment instead.

To have the spirit of discernment is to possess the ability to judge well. We get our English word "aesthetic" from the Greek word for discernment, meaning moral perception, insight, and the practical application of knowledge. None of us feel about God and his world as we should.  And so none of us do for God, in his world the things we should. When was the last time we thanked God for His mercy?

The celebrity will see money not as a means of displaying God's worth to the world, but see it as a means to further selfish ends. The celebrity will turn from seeing new life in a womb as gift, to viewing it as an unfortunate grouping of cells that creates a baby. How would a celebrity view the opposite sex, as children of God or as only objects and body parts for selfish desire.

In today's speaking, whether movies or just news casts, speech is four lettered words. It is the very change to gossip, to slander a  President , and even devour others with hate speech that "mature" people use. (Yeah, right?) The past summer revealed people who came from way down south of U. S. and stated that America lost at the Alamo. They waved their Mexican flags! ( In truth, the Alamo came under seige in March 1836.) What took several days, it fell to Santa Anna March 6, 1836. I beg to differ on that take that the win went to Mexico. Take a look at the Battle of San Jacinto, a battle where Santa Anna was challenged again. On April 1836, General Sam Houston, took men and surrounded Santa Anna's army, even took the leader Santa Anna as captive on April 21. So it was not much time from the Alamo, Texas took down Santa Anna. General Houston made Santa Anna sign the decrees of his fall to United States, (the Texans) and the region was free from tyranny. Go read the history of this nation including Texas, and you might learn something new!

Instead of seeing the unpopular kids at school as a great opportunity to show the radical nature of God's love for us we see them as ways to prop up our own shaky self-esteem. Do we note that anger responses are giving way to the advancement of evil?  Yesterday it was to change genders, now it seems losing weight for healthy reasons gives way to those who call it a "bad" thing and they the haters hit on those who have lost a lot of weight only now to be weighed down with hate messages, and school kid harassment!!!

The Servant was this: The Gospel of Mark emphasizes the servant-hood and the sacrifice of Jesus. In Mark He faces those with hardness of heart and unbelief. All the way to the cross on Calvary, Jesus carried burdens. He was seen and is seen as the long-suffering servant. The sacrifice presented by the face of an Ox: Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.

Jesus’ ministry from miracles, table-fellow-shipping with sinners, choosing His disciples and teaching on the kingdom of God set a momentum of displaying the self-giving love of the Son of God, that was climaxed in the Cross and the Resurrection.  Mark 8:34-35 “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

1.   Jesus speaks that He and the Gospel are of equal importance.

2.   Loyalty to Christ, not changing sides every couple of days.

3. Not a liberal one day and a conservative the next day.

Knowing Jesus represented His Father in heaven, the foundation of truth was seen. Seen by those with a willingness to lay down the world’s demands and receive God’s, we see Jesus is Identified in His confessions: Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God. “Get behind Me Satan! For it is written you shall worship the LORD your God & Him only you shall serve.” “It has been said, You shall not tempt (test) the LORD your God.”

In the Gospel of Mark: Jesus emphasized in His authority as Teacher: Mark 1:22 & they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority & not as the scribes. The “scribes” were known for repeating what others had said. It was both the substance & the manner of the Lord’s teaching that was different from what the scribes gave or represented!

Jesus strongly condemned them: Mark 12:38-40 Then He said to them in His teaching, “Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, 39 “the best seats " in the synagogues, & the best places at feasts, 40 who devour widow’s houses, & for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.

1.   Scribes taught what they mastered in the Torah; they treasured traditional interpretations or what is oral traditions.

2.   In the Gospel of Mark, the scribes were Jesus’ fiercest opponents seen in Mark 2:6-7, 16-17 NKJV  6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7”Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this?” Who can forgive sins but God alone?”  …16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick, I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

3.   In this day, those with vocations and life-styles that violated God’s laws & were held in contempt. But Jesus did not condone their acts but came to save “sinners”. (Thinking of Matthew the tax collector!)

4.   Mark 11:27 Then they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him. 28 And they said to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?” 29 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one question; then answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things: 30 The baptism of John----was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me.” 31 And they reasoned among themselves saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?” 32 But if we say, ‘From men”---they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed. 33 So they answered and said to Jesus, “We do not know.” ‘Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

The Book of Mark Underscores the need for faith in Jesus, the Message of Jesus and the power of Jesus: Mark 1:15 …and saying, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”   Mark 2:5  When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

Standing Against hardness of hearts, Jesus’ authority is both aggressive and deliberate! A Healing on the Sabbath: Mark 3:1-6 & He entered the synagogue again & a man was there who had a withered hand. 2 So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. 3 & He said to the man who had the withered hand, “Step forward.”4 Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent. 5 & when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” & he stretched it out, & his hand was restored as whole as the other. 6 Then the Pharisees went out & immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.  Mercy of God can cause evil men to react against God; The Herodians, a minor political party, favored continuation of the dynasty of Herod. Being archenemies of the Pharisees, here they unite against Jesus: their purpose, to destroy Him; Unrighteousness as well as righteousness can unite a group of people

For those in need of healing, but He encountered those in unbelief! Mark 6:5-6 Now He could not do mighty work there, except that he laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 and He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.

A Shameful Tribute to Unbelief: Luke 22:52-53  NKJV 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.'

1.   The destructive and the cruel showed up in the Garden of Gethsemane. God allowing the enemy a temporary authority.

2.   Jesus the Servant, who possessed all power to serve, to heal bringing peace to man yet he was seized.

3.   The good of God suppressed: yet Jesus was crucified, died and rose again……resurrected to life and be seated at the right hand of God the Father. He waved the flag of victory!

4.   Jesus sent to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, & the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

5.   But those set as the slayers, in their ungodly malice, could see His good words & works only as threats and Him only as an enemy, a man to shame, to critically wound by a cat-of-nine tails and kill by nailing to a Cross.

Unbelief is Rampant Today: Christians are prohibited from praying in many government buildings or at public gatherings, and they are sometimes prevented from speaking the truth because man's laws have, in effect, seized and bound such activity. What is good is now evil and what is evil is counted as the good! Today, unbelief is used by the powers of darkness………..to hinder and persecute Christians just as Christ was.  Just in the last few days, the 10 Commandments are mentioned by those who do not want them displayed at schools in the United States!

A tribute to unbelief found in Romans 1:18-22 NKJV For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools.   ( these today want to connect with "furries" and women who work out on all kinds of weights)

Had they truly known Him and the truth He brought, “they would not have crucified the Lord of glory” (I Corinthians 2:8).

Jesus Gives Warning of TRUE Defilement from an Attitude of the heart: Mark 7:14-23  When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, & understand: 15 “There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16 “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!” 17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him. 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, & is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?” 20 & He said, “What comes out of man, that defiles a man. 21 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within & defile a man.”

1.   Jesus was proclaiming the Kingdom of God: it was the age of salvation

2.   Calling the multitude to Himself, he wants to clearly state that it is the heart and the will where ungodly thoughts, words, desires and motives spring from

3.   Jesus points to the disciples as those with the spiritual dullness: Spiritual insensitivity builds through this section of Mark 6:7 to Mark 8:26

4.   Mark 6:7-13 Jesus sends out the Twelve disciples, His instruction to them was concerning their provisions and their public acceptance or rejection, then sent them on their mission delegating His power to them

5.   John the Baptist is Beheaded in Mark 6:14-29 ….It was John’s preaching that prompted Herod’s concerns. When Herod entertains in the banquet hall, where his eye is on the young daughter of Herodias. Conversation to the point of offering up half his kingdom which was not his to give is now on the momentum of John losing his head. Reluctantly, Herod does give way to the young girl’s request and he now thinks that he will have not further worries with John out of the way. But Jesus sent out the 12 disciples and now this ministry is stirring up Herod’s memories of John the Baptist.

6.   The banquet of debauchery given by Herod was noted by those who attended, but there was the Feeding of 5 thousand….in it is the glory of God unveiled through the abundant provision of bread in the wilderness

7.   Jesus taught them and then their bodies were fed!

Jesus walks on water seen in Mark 6:45-52 Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida while He sent the multitude away. 46 And when He had sent them away, he departed into to the mountain to pray. 47 Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. 48 Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the 4th watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. 49 And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw Him & where troubled. But immediately he talked with them and said to them. “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid. 51 Then He went up into the boat to them & the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure and marveled. 52 For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened.

1.   What is noted: the disciple had not understood about the loaves when feeding the 5 thousand

2.   Their heart was hardened. Mark 8:17 “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened. 18 Having eyes, do you not see? & having ears, do you not hear? & do you not remember? 19 When I broke the 5 loaves for the 5  thousand, how many baskets full or fragments did you take up?”They said to Him, “12.” 20 “Also, when I broke the 7 for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?” & they said,” 7.” 21 So He said to them, “how is it you do not understand/Jesus disappointed that His disciples lacked spiritual perception! On hearing, He referred to the healing of the deaf man in Mark 7:32-37 & anticipation was in full view for the next healing that would be seen in Mark 8:22-26 of the blind!

Then Jesus gives the Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod: Mark 8:14-21 NKJV 14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, & they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat. 15 Then he charged them saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” 16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “ Why do you reason because you have no bread?17 But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread?  Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened? 18 Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.” 20 Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up? And they said, “seven.” 21 So He said to them, “How is it you do not understand?”

1.   Another boat ride for the disciples: Jesus warns of the contagion of unbelief in the Pharisees….it is a corrupt and evil thing of the worldly man.

2.   Of the Pharisees and Herod, the leaven is their persistence in unbelief and in their opposing Him and His mission.

3.   For the disciples, their focus should have been on the witness of the miraculous multiplication of the bread provided to the 5 thousand and then to the 4 thousand.

4.   What is more advantageous in this account, is that focus on the feeding miracle than the satisfying of hunger. Jesus answers hunger and thirst by the spiritual in us.

In a telecast last night, they mentioned the young man Crooks who tried to take out the man running for President. They said this young one liked "furries". One reported went on to break down this concept of man loving furries as if they are one themselves. Strange!

We are made in the image of God. We do not change what God has created.Father created us in His spiritual image to have the qualities of heart and character as He does. He has given us qualities that enable us to provide leadership as members of His government. Slipping spiritually comes because of misplaced faith. Faith in ourselves, or in our own works cannot save. We must see Him, know Him clearly enough, for when there is an absence of Him a certain void is created , we are quickly and easily filled by these false ideas. Today we should serve as Jesus served. Although the Lord does not ask you to be crucified, but certainly our flesh must be crucified daily. Serving is not taking sides in this world, but is aligning with the Kingdom of God. It is His government where His authority is clearly seen in us.

So what will it be today: celebrity or servant? Foolish or the Wise? Strength in Jesus to stand in a collapsing world will forever propel us into the future where the light grows brighter unto the full light of day!

Entrance into Heaven

2 Peter 1: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 But also for the very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is short sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure fore if you do these things you will never stumble. 11 For so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:16-21  NKJV 16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to him from the Excellent Glory: "This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased". 18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; (20) knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, (21) for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

From the above passage we find what the entrance into heaven is given by God in His grace, peace and divine power. His desire is us the living give unto life and godliness in the knowledge of Him who has called us! His word is diligence in His divine nature. In this foundation of being committed to His truth, those precious promises, we escape corruption of the world. In diligence toward Him, we have our faith attached to virtue. In virtue, we maintain by His power the moral excellency and goodness. In this is of God but can refer to people as seen in Philippians 4:8. We walk with a bold acceptance "in Christ" in all the promises of God.

From some passages of 2 Peter 1-3 it puts this word before us : it gives us this in 2 Peter 1:13 ...to stir you up by putting you in remembrance. Verse 15 Moreover I will endeavour that you may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. ( He puts in verse 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
Chapter 3 of Peter: verse 1... in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance;
Each is referring back to the exact words of the holy prophets and of the commandment of us the apostles of Jesus...LORD and SAVIOR!
In verse 9....not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Entrance into heaven is paved with God's holy words!

In Christian Graces: Colossians 4:2-6 NKJV   2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3 meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, 4 that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

When a light shines, there are to be no hindrances! A lighthouse requires a great light to reach a far distance, with no barriers as to walls. Fog can cause limit in seeing for distance and not proving helpful in such situation.

The Lighthouse in each of us is to give vigilance to lighting the way with thanksgiving and we do that with continued prayer! We are to walk in wisdom toward those who are outside the family of God! Whether they choose Him or not we continue in our vigilant walk of these graces: virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love!

There are many today speaking Jesus was just a prophet or just man. But we know HIM as the Son of God! His way is righteous. Any who turn away from HIM is seen as the dog returning to his vomit!

2 Timothy 3:2, the apostle Paul prophesies that the last days would be dangerous because "men will be lovers of themselves," and in verse 3, "without self-control, brutal." It seems we are seeing this prophecy fulfilled in ever-greater frequency, as people seem to have less and less compunction about terrorizing and taking the lives of their fellow human beings. Under the grip of a merciless narcissism, many are losing their humanity.  People are dressing as some animal. They dance around in their new world of insanity!

Matthew 24:12  NKJV   12  And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Here Jesus is not speaking about the world. He is addressing people or disciples and their spiritual descendants. How would know this truth? Jesus used the word agape for the love that grows cold. Such spiritual love, that godly love, is unattainable by those driven by the spirit of this world. This agape love- the God kind of love- is "poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which was given to us found in Romans 5:5. A warning was given by Jesus to future believers that the wickedness of the world will increase to such an extent that it would sap the spiritual heat out of His own people, causing their love to grow cold.

John the Beloved wrote in 1 John 3:11 "This is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Love is paramount in our lives as we live daily in this world but not of this world! Here we find John wrote to the church of Ephesus for their lack of love. They had left God, the God of love!

Revelation 2:1-7  NKJV  "To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, "These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lamp-stands: 2 "I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;  3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.  4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5  Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lamp-stand from its place—unless you repent. 6  But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.""

Repentance is God's will and pleasure………. 2 Peter 3:9-13……….. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.  10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.   NKJV

His command ……. Acts 17:30-31………………30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."   NKJV

Gift of His sovereign love

Acts 5:31; Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 11:18;  When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life."

Rom 2:4;  Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

2 Tim 2:25; in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Certainly the false teachers are in reality snared by the devil. And we can bring them truth if they are willing to hear it. We cannot make others believe it they are not ready for God's truth.  And any stealing from others is not a welcome thing either.  If one is taking free "stuff" to feed their children, why not get a job to feed your own children. Each of us has had children. Each of us has sent them to college to some kind of trade school to learn and further their knowledge in knowing a workable trade to earn an income. But stealing is not a trade to learn!

Morality has started being fought in the cribs of our babies, the wombs of our mothers and in the classroom of the youngest of children. I am certain that sympathy is Not working! WE should not stand by in any form of silence. Children deserve the life God has prepared for them. He has a plan for them.

How could one watch their grand-children being pushed off into the community of cesspool immorality?  Tolerance is castrating the young men indeed. And diversity has it call on the young as well. Young boys have been taught in the last few years to be more feminine. What? Certainly love others no matter their convictions but do not be a doormat to those who want to shove sin down the throat of our children! It was like covid 19 being shoved down our throats daily for how many years? It was too many days filled with vaccinate this and vaccinate now! We live in a nation of freedom in being free to make right choices. What you do in the dark in perversion is your business, but do not pervert your ways on me and mine.

What I’m getting at today is that love is not passive! We are commanded to speak the truth in love. Any peace that happens at the expense of morality is not worth having. Solving conflict by selling our souls, or more accurately — the souls of our children — is a price not worth paying! Freedom always comes with a price and the day we decide to stop paying the bill by being willing to take a stand for morality is the day we have begun the short journey back to a concentration camp of spiritual slavery.

Jesus hung from the Cross dying and forgave others who put Him there! But each of them had heard the word of God, and many received Him as others refused Him. So we have things to consider about that "entrance" appearing soon! How is our love walk? Do we love God and the brothers we walk with? Is there light in our hearts or only darkness? What is important is that diligence to stay with God where virtue is that intrinsic value, a moral excellency and goodness found only in God. We are to persevere in this hour as darkness increases on the horizon.  Peter wrote and we should adhere to truth that true knowledge is found in the God of Christ and the Scriptures. We are to remember!

Let us look toward that heaven prepared. Let us look toward what Christ taught of making ready a place for you and me. The spirit we are to live by, the words of God for life and His voice resounds in our hearts leading us home. Let's reach forward into the light of Him, the power of Him and the love that has given us a place to reside in His peace.  Repentance is the now and His Word for today! Let's use it!
